I liked the way she shifted her dress to the left at the beginning for maximum presentation and viewing pleasure. She could have been playing chopsticks with two fingers and would have sold it with those legs.
I can just see her performing this in the talent segment of the 1962 Miss America Pageant right after the bathing suit competition. Very beautiful and talented lady.
I have known Patricia for many years and she is quite extraordinary. She not only has classical piano training but has also bicycled across America (at age 67) to raise money for music scholoaships. She is now 72 and an inspiration to many. She has also just had a bok published about her bike ride across America.
Yes camaroman101 ... they are ... even more amazing when you consider that she must have been well into her 60's when that video was made. But let's not forget that she is a pretty good pianist too.
this was not written for solo piano, its a concerto, piano to be accompanied by an orchestra. although she plays very well, it lacks without the character and full power of an orchestra
but, for me, it lacked a little of the 'gershwin swing' that he has in his music. her touch made the music seem softer....in some parts. i want to learn this song, but i need money to buy the sheet music =(
I'm not used to "Rhapsody in Blue" without orchestral accompaniment, and never remember having heard it in a piano solo, but Patricia's musicianship, particularly in the fortissimo passages, carried it off very well, indeed. The whole video soothed me, and put my mind in a better place.
Magnifique pièce. Cette composition de Gershwin est ma favorite. L'entendre avec un piano uniquement est une première et c'est excellent. Félicitations.
The "Airline song" is a reference to a series of television commercials broadcast by United Airlines (something around a decade ago or so) that used this song as the commercials' background music.
Patricia did well here on this tricky piece - I'm glad she played from the same version that I am currently learning. Patricia, you left out many of the hard bits! Every bit that I was watching to see how you tacked the technical problem you had 'cut' from the performance - a pity because I'm sure you could manage them fairly well. watch out between 1:40 and 5:00 - sometimes I think Gershwins intension wasn't fully realised. Besides this you plays sensitively and with good taste. Thank you
The United Airlines Song? fuck off.

I am no critic of classical music, thankfully, so I could simply enjoy it!

@sickkat44 actually it was originally written for solo piano; ferde grofe orchestrated it for gershwin

uber, it is a concerto, solo piano to be accompanied by orchestra. do a bit more research and you will realize your mistake

She could have played chopstix.. For me this attractive woman in her sleak outfit made it impossible for me to pay attention to Gershwin .
