  • Hi Simon, nice videos. I've just built my own crossed 4ele/8ele 2m/70cm yagi with gamma matches and a separate 70cm preamp, through a 2m/70cm duplexer. Have worked AO-51 so far from the back yard here in Australia with my FT817 and 4W, and I have an IC-W32 dual band duplex handie on the way that I can hopefully mount on the boom to make it less cumbersome! Keep up the good satellite work. 73 - Rob VK2GOM (ex G0MOH).

  • Hi Rob, Glad to hear your working AO-51 and congrats on your new home brew beam. Sounds Good! SO-50 is pretty good and easy to access with a 67Hz CTSS Tone on. All the best and maybe work you one day on HF. Regards from Yorkshire, 73 Simon

  • love your videos simon, keep them coming, you can really pull in the signals with the little handhelds pretty good. ham radio is amazing i am going to be trying for my ticket soon maybe we'll have a qso someday

  • Tnx Joey, my location at 1000ft with a good view of the horizon certainly does me well! Its great to use the handhelds and hear them come alive, the Arrow ant is very impressive.

Look forward to hearing you sometime soon!

  • I love portable operations!!! Nice video and very good audio.Keep on doing such a good job,Simon.73,Ed.

  • Tnx ED, It is a great way to play radio. Hope to make the QSO with you soon. Best 73

  • Like the shot up the antenna. If you zoom in really hard you might be able to see the satellite? (Ok probably not!)

    Lou (your long-suffering YL)

  • Good video.. could you not use the FT470 for Tx as well as Rx?

  • Tnx, and yes but it is easier to shift the frequency without pressing buttons to change from vfo A (Uplink TX) to vfo B (RX Downlink).

With the two rigs I can hear my signal clearly and alter the doppler frequency with my eyes closed h.i

I tried both rigs with the duplexer and the FT 470 was the best. The kenwoods modulation quality is good so thats another reason for you h.i

Thanks for the question and thanks for watching. Hope to hear you on Ham radio. 73

  • Looks like it was fun!

  • It sure was and I am having far too much fun!!

    Thanks and 73
