@MillStream30 Actually, it worked. All I did was turning the PS3 off, and thinking "I think it's best that I leave it..." ... and after a couple of hours I turned the PS3 back on and the Media Sharing worked :| my PS3 found my PC as a media server !

Check this 3 services (it's A MUST if you want to detect your device - PS3).

SSDP Discovery Service <<<<< Start this one first Make and make it Automatic (right click properties).

Universal Plug and Play Device Host << then this one same as one above

Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service <<< then this one...

if you get any errors like 1068 -79.. etc simple google errors and you will find easy solution.

Good explanation, very funny, I also get the message that "there are no videos" although I know there are plenty of them. Do they have to be MP4 format to be able to play on the PS3 even though they are being streamed? I am able to stream music and pics, just not videos. when you get to the list of devices for local networks : ALLOW OR BLOCK change the list to ALL NETWORKS instead of LOCAL NETWORKS. The PS3 SLIM 160GB for me was labeled as UNKNOWN device. Allow it and search for it on the PS3. it should show up as 1 media server found.

Also a way to make sure this "Unknown Device" is actually your PS3. Check your MAC Address on your PS3 under System Settings > System Information. And verify it with the MAC address given for the "Unknown Device". =)

BUT, one question...I have my laptop connected to an external drive, and I added that to my folders on windows media player. The problem is only some folders show up on my ps3 to play. About five folders of videos don't.

(I have folders separated for different reasons)

@flicksorell just make sure your using nat type 2 or 3 on your ps3 and it won't matter what software u use nat type 1 for some reason doesn't allow media servers 2 work for some reason

I started to set up my WMP player server...all my music then seemed to get automatically imported.......then the same thing happened to my videos.....then, for some reason the videos all dissapeared....I have set the default in my libary from "my videoes" to "My downloads"....however I have copied everything from "My downloads" to "Tricksterize -My pc downloads" and its doing fine. in the future, will everything in future automatically go into my WMP libary or will I have to copy it?

For me it works everything, besides the fact, that my PS3 simply cannot find any media server. I get even 2 unknown devices, and I allowed both all access. Then I even disabled my firewall, still "No media server found" saying on PS3 :(
