I would have loved a traditional country cover record by Barrett, Zappa and Beefheart. Like a 3 disc set of their interpretations of Acuff, Scruggs, Hank Williams, Lefty Frizzel, Hank Snow, The Carters, Bill Monroe, etc.
I love all Syd songs, his voice is too sexy, clear, and strong...Was a perfec man...a genius, artist, his magic was to do some amazing and extraordinary of somethings simply ..the life is like that, I guess he knew it.
That's a trip, I remember seeing this album cover back in early 80's at tower records, thinking it was wellcome to my nightmare, without alice on the front..
if u ask me were all the fools here for trying to figure out someone else's experiences. it doesnt really matter what it means because after all we all just want to be entertained, the entertainer is only satisfying our empty needs for some fulfillment. if u ask me, to understand an artist you would have to be an artist yourself, of the same caliber at least.
I've listened to all three of Syd's solo alboms. Persoally, I love them all; personal to him or not. It doesn't really matter to me. It's just really good music.
We know LSD disassociates us from reality? We know this? The very reason ppl take hallucinogens through time & across cultures is because they immerse us deeper in reality. If things go wrong & one gets paranoid, then disassociation kicks in. Either way, to be treated with alot of care.
Thanks so much for posting these. Youtube's weird compression makes the vinyl subtleties jump up like phantoms from under the stairs. BARRETT LIVES, maaaaan!!
hello again going to N.Y.C> tonight to play maybe i'll do some of Syd's songs alot of the younger people don't know who he is, i do thanks to my uncle playing records when i was a 30 yrs. younger...
everyone always loves effervescing elephant, anything off of the piper will work, too, like bike, the gnome or lucifer sam, some of Syd's songs, though, are a little too slow and/or weird for most crowds. have fun with it, good luck!
Vaux- you should set up a mailer and let some of us east coasters know when and where!? I for one would love to see some Syd covers..
Posttoastie made an excellent point- choose carefully.. even some of the biggest (new age) floyd fans take years before they realize where/what of Syds music.. but oh boy when it hits you its like nothing my ears have ever or will ever hear again : )
By the way- thanks for all your efforts Posttoastie.. Its much apprecaited!
There is no figuring out the lyrics, syd claims in the song 'Bike' that most of his lyrics are 'hogword', but he and the boys (went into the room of musical tunes and)made them work.
yea...sum people think wot he writes is extremely poetical and try to figure out wot it means..i think most of the barrett album is about nothing, just random lyrics..but a few tracks and alot of madcap laughs are very poetical indeed.
his solo songs are way more personal...just harder to figure out. its hard to decide whether its deep poetry or complete nonsense. i guess we'll never know.
Ever wondered what those things in your eyes are, they're called floaters, they look like lines joined together with little dots, tiny things and they NEVER dissapear!
KABALAH, and they are there for a reason, and it aint good!
"All night, tv, teeth, feet, peace, feel it" was the most fun graffitti I've ever written. Thanks to Dan DePasque; I wouldn't have known Syd if it weren't for him. That's love, yeah yeah, yeah, yeah.
NO NO NO. The lyrics on the web are all WRONG. 'TV, teeth V, peace fealing' 'Dark the way tin east is less, De-craving of the metal west. Hell tomorrows rain and test' Seething wet we meet in fleck'
I could explain what they mean but it would take a while, Syd was ahead of everyone and these lyrics prove it.
lines and winds and ultimatly occult in nature.far reaching waves and i lay as it surrounds all immesing and it does hover.tis beyond four wwinds.tears away in the hour ,drift with blanched bones.
The lyrics on the web are all WRONG too. 'TV, teeth V, peace fealing' 'Dark the way tin east is less, De-craving of the metal west. Hell tomorrows rain and test' Seething wet we meet in fleck'
The ones on the net are crap and the above are the correct ones. Gonna take ages to get them changed. Barrett was in front of everyone.
love an empty silent guest DIMPLES DANGEROUS AND BLESS'D HEAVING WRITHING TINKLING INK MINGLING JETS AND STATUETTES SEETHING WET WE MEETING FLECK SEETING WET WE MATING FLECK LINES AND WINDS AND CRIBBIDGE LAUGH AND EACH FAIR DAY I GIVE YOU HALF I LOOK INTO YER EYES AND YOU PLAY PIN THE SUN FOR YOU
Jeez, even when Syd wasn't trying his hardest he was still great. Wolfpack is an awesome song. What sort of catalogue of songs would he have left if he hadn't experienced his problems? A shame.
i didn't say it's not good ;) I love the two extended shine on parts and i like welcome to the machine. rick wright did some of his best work on that album. But they did cash in on the barrett image nevertheless
this music isnt too bad considering his breakdown

if syd were alive today im sure he would be laughing at you all for taking his music so seriously
if the stories of his lsd use are true
and we know that lsd disassociates us with reality, a sort of matrix like existence
then surely he wouldnt write songs about such deep complex thoughts
he was afterall quite the comedian.

Yes you will know!
Syd was stuck between 2 worlds, 1 was ours and 2 the afterlife, the dream world few of us are conscious enough to remember!
Its hard doing both and makes one seem a little wierd. Psychics experience the same, as did Syd!
'All night, TV, teeth V peace feeling'
'Spot, knock inside a spider' = Kabalah!
