Very nice job on the fuel injection modification. I know that some of my fellow MGC club members would be very interested in your setup and if it was adaptable for the MGC. From the video, I do not see a reason why it would not. I wasn't sure of the sound until you revved the motor, very nbice sound. Send me an email and I will post it on our MGC forum.
@Treetop64 Typically fuel injection systems run at a higher pressure than carbs. In this case the injectors are designed to operate in this range. This particular setting, 42psi, was arrived at by dyno testing.
Mr Tom, this is an amazing car!! The engine bay looks incredible, the polish SU's keep the nostalgic look we all like. What a way to modernize an old 3000 and still respect the old British craftsmanship heritage of the car.
I am restoring a 78MGB, don’t want to do an engine swap, but I do like the benefits of EFI, easy start ups, silky idle, and so on, can I copy your idea?? Do you have a web page where you talk of this restoration?? I’ll love to see it.
@alexQw33 Thanks for your note. You can find my website by seaching on "Steves Austin Healey efi" If you look under the projects heading you will find a fairly comprehensive of the efi.
@Thomvid, I found your web site, it is excelent, it will serve as a guide now that I am done with the brakes. Muchas Gracias, and have a wonderful 2011 amigo.
An interesting blend of old technology and new. Most people would either stick with the old engine or do a swap if they want extra power or reliability. I quite like this though, and it looks like really top-notch workmanship. Looks like a sort of restoration/rebuild with a bit of modern practicality?
@74LesPaul It's been on a dyno but primarily for tuning. The only power pulls we made showed a 10% increase in hp/tq over a friends stock BJ7. That said, the car still isn't tuned for maximum power...but it starts great, runs smooth, and has very quick throttle response. We do plan more dyno tuning when I have it all done....which should be in a few months. Thanks for your comments.

@daholocaust I hate to disappoint you haholocaust but the green Healey with efi that had the fire had a injector connection that failed. That can't happpen on mine because I have a hard mounted fuel rail (shown in the video) that can not come free. In fact the entire fuel system is secured with AN fittings. You'll have to look else where for your car fire thrills. Cheers
Yes he sure was....we had a fun few days. It was great seeing his engine fired up for the first time. Those triple Webers looked and ran super!! Steve
i must take my hat off to you, sir.this is exactly the kind of engineering i love, the look and feel of the original with very clever and subtle ways of incorparating modern reliability. bravo !!
So do the carb's act like the throttle body's? If this is self build then bravo!! Them engines/carbs are so hard to get perfect. Injection has smoothed it right out. I love old motoring with reliable twists :)
Impressive, I guess this would make the car a bit greener on emissions, perhaps gas mileage, but is there any higher performance reason for doing this? These cars only get driven a few miles a year, and I rather enjoy the old noisy Healey experience.
Well it has all the Healey big 6 sounds, no different (if you listen to it on little laptop speakers you lose most of the bass). The conversion should add around 18-20% hp, much crisper throttle response, excellent cold start....and, yes, much cleaner and better mileage. Of course, it's not for everyone.
What a superb implementation Steve. I have followed the work that you and Ric have been carrying out and the final installation is an excellent 'stealth' build. The startup and throttle response is everything the big Healey should be.
I think that could be arranged...Ric is thinking of doing this ... but the challenge is the ECU tuning with the different throttle bodies. Send me an email and we can chat more about this. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Smooth as a cheerleaders thigh!! Very nice.

42psi for fuel pressure?! Why so high?

why not use tbs?

@c243mx7tr Do you mean throttle body injection? This is a form of TBI.

why don't you replace the fan motor with an electric one for more power
dariocrr2trider 1 year ago
@dariocrr2trider Well, I need the fans for cooling when all the body pieces are back in place.

Beautiful job. What are the performance changes that were brought about in real numbers (if you have them)? Smooth as silk!

This is simply put....amazing. I've always been crazed by the big Healey, but never went past a TR-3 and MGA in ownership.
Thanks Steve, for the uplift.

The carbs are gutted.... they only function as air valves.

I'm very impressed with this setup. I got your email update that sent me to this video.
Is there any way that the computer/sensor/injector parts will be sold by you or your partner?
I'd love to do a similar conversion using my Webers as throttle bodies.
Thanks for posting!
