for a guy who primarly plays guitar and just needs a bass for home-recording purpose this one seems perfect,. i got an offer with a used one of these (the active version), a leather strap, a gigbag and straplocks for 150 bucks. should i make the deal?
@chumbo I've heard that a lot...the funny thing is that I am like anti-gear...I have a tuner and a loop station...and sometimes I don't use either of them!
I have the very same bass except it black, instead of blue. I enjoy the bass though, and over the past two years of having it, I decided to upgrade both the strings and pickups. And now sounds like I have bought a brand new guitar. Pretty happy how it turned out.
@oOPuNNOo I worked in BIG stores for 15 years and literally sold more Ibanez than any other salesman in the country for most of that time...I can generally identify an instrument on sight...but certainly one that I hold in my hands...I'm 100 (million, billion) % sure of it.
@adhdal I think I have answered this question a dozen times in the comments and I probably said something in the video too, but for you, I will answer again. Model specifications are subject to change...some brands change every year...you have a Bass Boost (knob) with a battery compartment on the back...this doesn't have either...
@Laras94 These were just cheap Chinese made "Musician's Choice" strings which GC/MF have labeled for themselves as a house brand...but at $5.00 a set you can't go wrong (they were in the clearance bin).
im considering getting this in white or getting a squier jazz bass , wondering which would be better for using a pick ? (i use both before anyone says anything , i practice with fingers but do covers with a pick)
@Xxrickibee94xX There are certain things about a Fender that you can only get by owning their instruments...and even some of the Squier's do a decent fob of getting the basic feel and sound...but they only get so close and they are not built nearly as well and are not nearly as versatile (and these are so comfortable to play when they are set up and adjusted just right)...pick or no pick doesn't really matter to me...I think these (at least the older ones) are (were) generally made better.
@Rizzieable I never really liked that series myself...to me it was just an excuse to use the RG style headstock...I think the SR?SGR series is a lot better feeling...even the cheap ones, but if you have a line on one dirt cheap used, that might be a different story...how does it feel and sound (and even look) to you?
@greengtrs Well i am getting a bass and i found that ibanez for 200 with the amp and cord. it looks like a sick guitar but im going to try it out to see if i like it.
YEAH!!!!!!!!!! I JUST GOT MAH FIRST BASS! >:D its this exact one, GSR 200, cherry red finish, with a Crate amp. I've been wanting to play guitar bass for a while, since i play both cello and double bass in orchestra. Then my moms like "Your birthdays in 3 months, lets get ur present now!" :D
YO You are RIIIGHT!!! ive been gigging with this bass for like 2 years or so and when i get off stage i get the same thing "dude what bass is that?? its sounds sweet"!!
it IS the best cheap bass you can get!! i have an mtd i got thursday but im never getting rid of the sr200 man
@sweetbeetz Thanks! And good choice...keep it...you don't get much for them used anyways and they are so much better than so many basses costing twice and even 3 times as much. Enjoy your MTD though...those are really good too. Thanks for watching!
ive got the red finished version of this bass. I've been playing it two years and it still looks and sounds brand new. They really are great bass's for the prices.
@MidnightsanitariumTV They are one of the best "cheap" basses you can buy...you could do serious gigs with these if you had a good enough amp (and especially if you upgraded the pickups)...thanks for watching!
@MidnightsanitariumTV If I had a nickel for every time I was asked that question! It is limited only by your imagination...it can work for most any kind of music...it is more on the amp (and settings) and strings (and your playing style) that will dictate that. Thanks for watching!

ok im wondering, im gonna get a bass soon, would this be a good bass for heavy metal, if it is thx but if not do you know a LOW priced bass good for metal? pls respond
@thatbrootalkid Keep your (anti American) anti Free Speech comments to yourself. I posted this before Christmas two years ago and most companies won't even say "Merry Christmas" anymore...just "Happy Holidays"...being both Jewish and Christian and a U.S. citizen entitles me to say whatever the hell I want to...you think it's okay to talk about suicide and not about salvation? What is wrong with you? It's okay for Nazi's to gather and assemble here and me not to speak my piece...I don't think so.
@samuelrj Religion (rules and structure) and religious heritage is different than actual faith. I could just as easily call myself a Messianic Jew...I AM Jewish AND I believe in Jesus Christ (the Messiah) as my Lord and Savior. It's just as hard for someone who was raised Catholic to actually believe in Jesus (and have a personal relationship with Him). I am a Jew and that is my heritage...I am a Christian and that is my faith...and Jesus was Jewish and was predicted in my old Jewish "Bible"...
@samuelrj ...continued... Jesus came first for the Jews, and then for the Gentiles (everyone else). The Jews were looking for a Messiah (Savior) that would set them free from Roman rule while God's term Savior was actually meant to save us from eternal death and Hell. If you want, check out the channel SoapboxMinistries here...it's something I wanted to do for my own purpose of separating this sort of thing from my music and got my Pastor involved...your questions there could become a video...
@samuelrj Yes...and I know it could have been a shorter answer...but I wanted to make it clear that there are plenty of people who are raised as "Christian's" but by definition are not as they are not actual believers of/in Jesus.
@Rockstarcragie if you don't care about using the bass boost knob can you just let the battery die and then use the newer models as if they were the older models ?... or does the dead battery mess up other things ?.
I'm going to get one of these in black and left-handed form (Yea , It's rare enough to find a left-handed guitar played , but a left-handed BASS player is ever rarer !)
@hammeronleo It's one of my original bits. I gave the chords in a prior comment/reply. For more of my jams, look up "greengtrs" and "loop" or "looping" and you should come up with a bunch of other cool ones. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I've recently got the exactly the same pack, except the bass is black and not blue, as I'm learning bass at the moment ;) And the amp is 25watt under the brand name Belcat. Unsure how popular they are though, but they work quite well.
@almostfaat It wasn't an option back then...note that this one is pretty old and doesn't even have the Phat Boost...but I would love to check out that version...I'm a pretty big fan of Mahogany and love the look of a Flame Maple top! So check it out anyone who might read this...it may not be for everyone but it will certainly have a different sound (better or worse is personal depending on your preference of wood tones) and (again only in my opinion) look better. Thanks for watching/commenting!

Thanks for watching!
@papan1990 Of the new channel? I haven't decided yet...soon though. Just go to my channel page and search my videos for "loop" and there is a list of 35 comes up...I'll try to organize a playlist soon. here's one to start with though...completely live and on the spot...I didn't know what I was going to do...just played a drum beat and went with the groove of it...more clean than usual...
Vintage White Fender Mexican Strat Part 2 (live looping & jamming) w/Taylor 712E & Boss RC20-XL
@greengtrs Thnx man....This bass rocks any day.....what do you think of the Yamaha RBX170 or the Squier Fender P Bass? Any ideas on Cort Action 4 string?
@papan1990 They are all (potentially) decent basses but some are good and some are not so good. Some (most) just need a set-up while some (where they were just working the assembly line/sweat shop workers too hard or fast) are just dogs and no amount of time on a workbench is going to help. If I had to choose (without getting to play the one I was going to buy) between those you just listed, I would go with Yamaha...they have always had great quality control (and of course Ibanez are great too).
@MarcoPoloVideos I've actually seen metal ones (years ago)...but these were cloth covered...I still have a few left if you're interested (for $15.00 plus the shipping which would be $5.00 at the most for USPS Priority Service anywhere in the USA)...they are 18.5 feet long and pretty heavy duty...I have all black and the black/white one right at the 1:53 mark that you pointed out.
@jflores85 There are a lot of different models by both companies and I would actually put that (sound) down to either amp/settings or the age and type of strings...I find almost all Ibanez basses to be on the bright side with a fresh set of strings...while some Fender's need a fresh st to bring out the highs...
The 40 is the new and improved version...basically it has an output jack so you can leave it plugged in during performance and it turns off automatically after 20 minutes...it even has a built in stand to angle it up at you...all good stuff (provided they haven't done any other corner cutting to keep the expenses down)...at least it sounds like it would be...haven't tried one yet as my 30 is still working great!
The difference between the gsr200 and the gsr190 is the active EQ isn't it? I'm looking to start bass and I might get the Gsr190 Jumpstart pack so can you tel me what you think of it?
I'm not sure...never had my hands on a 190...probably though...which would make it just like this...although probably cheaper machine heads (tuners). The packs are decent enough for entry level but you could do better if you bought used...more bang for your buck...who cares about a few dings and dents? And you could probably do way better on the amp used...
Actualyy since I live in britain and just his christmas I'm coming to the US I might buy ine if these babies new for like the prica of the ibanez gsr180 the lowest model in the UK thanks anyway I might also get a Laney 30w
If you haven't already bough your bass, i asure you that ibanez gsr190 is the best deal for the price. i bought one of those and it sound perfect, you can adjust everything to whatever sound you like. it sounds perfectly and fits perfectly, the neck is great. i've played on a gsr200 and it's pretty much the same thing. but the price is the difference. get the 190
@Drratburn i had an ibanez, that same one, i had problems with it, and the yamahas dont sound that good at all, i sould say the ltd, but the ibanez is decent too for a starting bass
@Drratburn : if you need a light easy to play bass.. take the ibanez. if you want to spend more money for no more features, but to impress someone.. take the Yamaha...
UPDATE: I ended up snagging an Ibanez Soundgear Precision Jazz Bass - Goes new in stores for 400-500, grabbed it hardly used for 160 from a guy living in one of the biggest houses I've ever seen haha.
Videos will be up soon. Feel free to give me tips/advice when I put one up. First cover will be 'Suck My Kiss' by RHCP.
Thanks to everyone who gave honest advice! Very happy with my Ibanez.
so this is the older model of the low end ibanez gsrs? I notice that they now have an additional knob. I am using my friends epi thunderbird but i just joined a band and i need my own bass for shows. is this a good bass to tour with you think? sucks being on a budget.
Uh no...it is a GSR-200. I showed the back of the headstock to show the model and even if it isn't clear enough to see that, you can clearly see the better tuners...I'm sure you are making your judgment call on the 3 knobs vs. the newer 4 knob models but there are indeed plenty of GSR-200 models out there like this.
id prefer the ibanez SR standards over this because if your playing funk slap or some heavier bass they are definitely better sounding but this bass is nice
Yeah, but it's decent quality and there is a whole lot of stuff out there that is way, way below this...even in the Ibanez line...and listen to how good it sounds at the jam at the end (if I do say so myself...).
Hey dude, I like that bass. I'm thinking of getting one in black from guitar center. Just two questions though. First, does it do well with a pick? I'm in a punk band. Second, how long is the neck?
i tried that ibanez gsr200 yesterday from a music studio..
i play punk to post hardcore songs.. i didnt feel like playing punk songs with a pick on that bass coz i didn't like the "toney" sound compared to a P bass.
the one i played has an active bass booster control. great for finger playing too.
the neck is very fast, the body is quit light and small great for fast songs.
almost the same as a Yamaha RBX170
overall it's a good bass but not on my liking. more of a P-Bass guy.
Yers looks exactly like mine. I restrung my GSR200 with better strings and it improved the sound and feel noticeably. Had to readjust the truss rod but lots of good tutorials on the internet so it was not a big deal.
I recommend buying separately (and used)...the packages generally have real components...cheap amps and bags...where if you buy used you can get better stuff for around the same price...there are always differences and even in the gig bags they can cut corners...I bought a guitar once because it was loaned to me and the cheap gig-bag strap fell off dropping the guitar to the ground and there was no real padding so it did damage to the body...I was lucky that was all...cheap cables suck too...
Hi...that's a Marshall Acoustic amp being used for the acoustic loop...but the Bass amp for this video is the Ibanez SW-20 and not the Marshall BassState B-65 that I normally use...
Thanks! I made it up for the ESP LTD EC-1000 Deluxe Demo I did...I actually did a live loop for the acoustic guitar in the first take but used the 2nd take because the overall playing was better but I goofed on the "live loop" on take 2 (the one I posted) when I pushed the button on the loop station pedal to record but forgot to clear it first so it just started playing back and I just rolled with it.
They can all be good depending on the pieces of wood that get used...the big question is 1st how it feels in your hands...then I pluck them acoustically to see if there is a good ring and resonance going on naturally...electronics can always be upgraded, but you have to start with a decent acoustic sound.
If you have buy without trying (internet), then probably this or the Yamaha. If you go to a store, try the one you are buying (don't play the display model and then say get me one in a "box").
you are a sick man because that is not an ibanez gsr - 200 that is the lower model you can tell because it only has 3 volume knobs. Nobody should buy from this idiot.
Do your research...the newest ones might have active electronics and a different knob set up but this is stock the way Ibanez made it...I sold Ibanez for 15 years (and it says the model # right on the back of the headstock...see @ 3:47) and it's a volume for each pickup and a master tone control...I go out of my way to point out every single flaw...you think I'm going to try and sell this as something it's not...get real! I have 100% positive feedback...go to eBay and read what my customers say!
I can tell that what you were saying or trying to do (warn unsuspecting buyers) was actually "noble" but I don't think you should call someone "sick" or an "idiot" before checking into it a bit more. I understand where you were coming from...it pisses me off when people or sellers mislead or sell 2nd rate and unplayable gear. I pointed out a Gibson once with a hump in the neck at a big store and they simply had the "don't buy it then ...we'll just sell it to someone else" attitude...I hate that!
for a guy who primarly plays guitar and just needs a bass for home-recording purpose this one seems perfect,. i got an offer with a used one of these (the active version), a leather strap, a gigbag and straplocks for 150 bucks. should i make the deal?

@greengtrs Cant find it dude....at least tell me the chords of that loop you play....Plzzz

@papan1990 the chords are Am/C/G/F...let me know how you do with it...I'm planning on doing some lessons soon too...
greengtrs 1 year ago
@greengtrs Thnx man....This bass rocks any day.....what do you think of the Yamaha RBX170 or the Squier Fender P Bass? Any ideas on Cort Action 4 string?
papan1990 1 year ago
@papan1990 They are all (potentially) decent basses but some are good and some are not so good. Some (most) just need a set-up while some (where they were just working the assembly line/sweat shop workers too hard or fast) are just dogs and no amount of time on a workbench is going to help. If I had to choose (without getting to play the one I was going to buy) between those you just listed, I would go with Yamaha...they have always had great quality control (and of course Ibanez are great too).
greengtrs 1 year ago
I have that exact same bass (black with black strings) but it has a 4th nob..looks kinda weird.

Where did you get the metal amp lead... I've been looking for them but I don't know what they're called
MarcoPoloVideos 1 year ago
@MarcoPoloVideos Not sure what you are talking about...where/what time in the video did you see it?
greengtrs 1 year ago
@greengtrs The guitar lead at 1:53 :D
MarcoPoloVideos 1 year ago
@MarcoPoloVideos I've actually seen metal ones (years ago)...but these were cloth covered...I still have a few left if you're interested (for $15.00 plus the shipping which would be $5.00 at the most for USPS Priority Service anywhere in the USA)...they are 18.5 feet long and pretty heavy duty...I have all black and the black/white one right at the 1:53 mark that you pointed out.

i had one and i miss the hell out of it even though it ad crappy pickups
humpde479 1 year ago
ibanez basses all sound really low, while the fenders and squiers sound really bright.
jflores85 1 year ago
@jflores85 There are a lot of different models by both companies and I would actually put that (sound) down to either amp/settings or the age and type of strings...I find almost all Ibanez basses to be on the bright side with a fresh set of strings...while some Fender's need a fresh st to bring out the highs...

Which one would be better for a tuner, the korg GA-30 or the korg GA-40 because the GA-40 is 5$ cheaper than the GA-30. (GA-40 is 15$ on Amazon)
Sanduskik 2 years ago
The 40 is the new and improved version...basically it has an output jack so you can leave it plugged in during performance and it turns off automatically after 20 minutes...it even has a built in stand to angle it up at you...all good stuff (provided they haven't done any other corner cutting to keep the expenses down)...at least it sounds like it would be...haven't tried one yet as my 30 is still working great!

The difference between the gsr200 and the gsr190 is the active EQ isn't it? I'm looking to start bass and I might get the Gsr190 Jumpstart pack so can you tel me what you think of it?
sfedf1 2 years ago
I'm not sure...never had my hands on a 190...probably though...which would make it just like this...although probably cheaper machine heads (tuners). The packs are decent enough for entry level but you could do better if you bought used...more bang for your buck...who cares about a few dings and dents? And you could probably do way better on the amp used...
greengtrs 2 years ago
Actualyy since I live in britain and just his christmas I'm coming to the US I might buy ine if these babies new for like the prica of the ibanez gsr180 the lowest model in the UK thanks anyway I might also get a Laney 30w
sfedf1 2 years ago
If you haven't already bough your bass, i asure you that ibanez gsr190 is the best deal for the price. i bought one of those and it sound perfect, you can adjust everything to whatever sound you like. it sounds perfectly and fits perfectly, the neck is great. i've played on a gsr200 and it's pretty much the same thing. but the price is the difference. get the 190

I can't decide between three bass guitars, I need help: Ibanez GSR200, LTD B-50, or a Yamaha RBX374.
Which should I buy?...
Drratburn 2 years ago
@Drratburn Well go with Ibanez trust me got this bass and I can do tapping great slapping sound plus has good action and active electrionics
HappyDictator 2 years ago
The Best out of the three is probably an Ibanez GSR200 but for the same prize you can buy a Squier Jazz Bass which is better than all of them
MrMukumLimbu 2 years ago
@Drratburn i had an ibanez, that same one, i had problems with it, and the yamahas dont sound that good at all, i sould say the ltd, but the ibanez is decent too for a starting bass
KillswitchEngage090 2 years ago

Very happy with my Ibanez.

it looks like the grs190. but i never knew they made it with only 3 knobs at a time.
CUJOattack 2 years ago
so this is the older model of the low end ibanez gsrs? I notice that they now have an additional knob. I am using my friends epi thunderbird but i just joined a band and i need my own bass for shows. is this a good bass to tour with you think? sucks being on a budget.
carbonxdating 2 years ago
Thank you fo review!
Which bass would you choose between this one and Yamaha RBX-170?
Kirshach 2 years ago 5
Hey man. I'd go with the Ibanez. They make great quality basses. even the cheap ones. But go with the new GSR-200. It has 4 knobs.
CUJOattack 2 years ago
this is not gsr200. thi is grs 190-.-
jabakideforme 2 years ago
Uh no...it is a GSR-200. I showed the back of the headstock to show the model and even if it isn't clear enough to see that, you can clearly see the better tuners...I'm sure you are making your judgment call on the 3 knobs vs. the newer 4 knob models but there are indeed plenty of GSR-200 models out there like this.

id prefer the ibanez SR standards over this because if your playing funk slap or some heavier bass they are definitely better sounding but this bass is nice

jacksonr015 2 years ago 2
Yeah, but it's decent quality and there is a whole lot of stuff out there that is way, way below this...even in the Ibanez line...and listen to how good it sounds at the jam at the end (if I do say so myself...).

Blue like mine!
FunnyItalyBoy 2 years ago
Hey dude, I like that bass. I'm thinking of getting one in black from guitar center. Just two questions though. First, does it do well with a pick? I'm in a punk band. Second, how long is the neck?
B413Rock 2 years ago
i tried that ibanez gsr200 yesterday from a music studio..
i play punk to post hardcore songs.. i didnt feel like playing punk songs with a pick on that bass coz i didn't like the "toney" sound compared to a P bass.
the one i played has an active bass booster control. great for finger playing too.
the neck is very fast, the body is quit light and small great for fast songs.
almost the same as a Yamaha RBX170
overall it's a good bass but not on my liking. more of a P-Bass guy.
only 3 stars.

y gsr200 has 4 knobs?
kenthearts 2 years ago
newer ones do (an active bass boost control with a 9 volt battery in the back), older ones don't...
greengtrs 2 years ago
is this kinda bass good 4 begginers
CH1productions 2 years ago
Yes...and beyond...it's great for smaller hands or guitar players who do well with a smaller neck.
greengtrs 2 years ago
Yers looks exactly like mine. I restrung my GSR200 with better strings and it improved the sound and feel noticeably. Had to readjust the truss rod but lots of good tutorials on the internet so it was not a big deal.

AutobahnSkater1109 2 years ago
How is that a dream bass? It's a great bass, but hardly a "dream bass" - it's easily obtainable, and affordable.
Shadesofblue1988 2 years ago
do you recommend buying starter package or buying separately?
electrifyd 2 years ago
I recommend buying separately (and used)...the packages generally have real components...cheap amps and bags...where if you buy used you can get better stuff for around the same price...there are always differences and even in the gig bags they can cut corners...I bought a guitar once because it was loaned to me and the cheap gig-bag strap fell off dropping the guitar to the ground and there was no real padding so it did damage to the body...I was lucky that was all...cheap cables suck too...
greengtrs 2 years ago
Thanks! what amps/cables do you recommend?
electrifyd 2 years ago
imma beginner can u play it without an amp? is it necessary?
electrifyd 2 years ago
you can play the bass without the amp. but without one, you wont hear yourself very well
initialdluvr 2 years ago
Also, the amp will inspire you to play more because of the deep sound...there are headphone style amps too if you need to keep it on the quiet side.
greengtrs 2 years ago
i have the exact same bass.

did you use the marshall amp???
thehurricanegh 3 years ago
Hi...that's a Marshall Acoustic amp being used for the acoustic loop...but the Bass amp for this video is the Ibanez SW-20 and not the Marshall BassState B-65 that I normally use...
greengtrs 3 years ago
Where did you get this backing track i like it
MFSherlock 3 years ago
Thanks! I made it up for the ESP LTD EC-1000 Deluxe Demo I did...I actually did a live loop for the acoustic guitar in the first take but used the 2nd take because the overall playing was better but I goofed on the "live loop" on take 2 (the one I posted) when I pushed the button on the loop station pedal to record but forgot to clear it first so it just started playing back and I just rolled with it.
greengtrs 3 years ago
appreciate the advice....i think i might get this bass in white .....but i was lookin at the yamaha first.
blackflame197 3 years ago
No problem...I hope it helps you and anyone else reading to pick using the "blind" test...which sounds best and feels good in my hands...
I have another one of these in see-thru red if you're interested...
greengtrs 3 years ago
would you recommend (this bass, a squier p-bass, or a yamaha rbx 170)for a beginning bass....im lookin for the best tone
blackflame197 3 years ago
They can all be good depending on the pieces of wood that get used...the big question is 1st how it feels in your hands...then I pluck them acoustically to see if there is a good ring and resonance going on naturally...electronics can always be upgraded, but you have to start with a decent acoustic sound.
If you have buy without trying (internet), then probably this or the Yamaha. If you go to a store, try the one you are buying (don't play the display model and then say get me one in a "box").
greengtrs 3 years ago
you are a sick man because that is not an ibanez gsr - 200 that is the lower model you can tell because it only has 3 volume knobs. Nobody should buy from this idiot.
ztennis002 3 years ago 2
Do your research...the newest ones might have active electronics and a different knob set up but this is stock the way Ibanez made it...I sold Ibanez for 15 years (and it says the model # right on the back of the headstock...see @ 3:47) and it's a volume for each pickup and a master tone control...I go out of my way to point out every single flaw...you think I'm going to try and sell this as something it's not...get real! I have 100% positive feedback...go to eBay and read what my customers say!
greengtrs 3 years ago
I can tell that what you were saying or trying to do (warn unsuspecting buyers) was actually "noble" but I don't think you should call someone "sick" or an "idiot" before checking into it a bit more. I understand where you were coming from...it pisses me off when people or sellers mislead or sell 2nd rate and unplayable gear. I pointed out a Gibson once with a hump in the neck at a big store and they simply had the "don't buy it then ...we'll just sell it to someone else" attitude...I hate that!
