Catching Leon tonight in Plymouth NH. Less than four hours til showtime, and I can hardly wait. Hope he plays this one. Thanks for the post, PhilipBast.
Absolutely awesome! Leon is just that good. If you don't like it, it's your opinion and that's fine. Just don't pretend you know ALL MUSIC, therefore you announce him as anything less than great. Leon is massive and always has been
I tried to hear Leon Redbone live once. It was in a blues club in San Jose, California. The crowd, college kids mostly, was even more disrespectful than the one in this vid. Leon and the band pretty much just gave up trying to be heard. I hope to get another chance someday. Until then, I have the CD's.
now i love this album double time this is classic blues in the most laid back an enjoyable way to listen for certain and every song from his 77 classic is immense and flavourful
@bamapagedesign Not necessarily. The "Harvest Moon" is the full moon that's closest to the autumnal equinox. In the northern hemisphere it's in October about 25% of the time.
This year we had a "Super Harvest Moon" - i.e., the harvest moon happened on the night of the autumnal equinox.
oh, hey, what a kind, thoughtful response. you really made an excellent argument for your case, I am now strongly re-considering my thoughts on the matter. Thank You!
@upyerrzzz I don`t know..I love Leon and have seen him do 25 versions of this song over the years and this is a pretty weak effort. You can see he even starts reaching for his guitar a few times to try to add some life to it and then he drops his hand as if he can't find the strength or interest to do it. Maybe he had a cold that day or something.
@WildeNotesMusic When I first heard this song was on his album. Years later going through some 78's I found the original! Both versions are amazing! But I never would have known it if it wasn't for him!
this is and has been my favarite singer this was the first song I heard him sing he was on Tv when I was 15. you will remember him as doing the budwieser commercials in 1984 enjoy
@123jlp His whole thing is being Mr. Mysterious, nobody knows for sure what his real name is, when he was born, or what he looks like without the getup.
Seriously theres a WONDERFUL version of this on the First Season of SNL with Eliot Gould...hes so young and Im sad this is the only version of him singing this....not as haunting as the way I heard it....I still love you leon
I agree allow some sort of respect for the artist and their space ,at least enough that you don't hear the jerkoffs in the background

Lyrics to the first verse:
The night was mighty dark so you could hardly see,
For the moon refused to shine.
Couple sitting underneath a willow tree,
For love they did pine.
Little maid was kinda 'fraid of darkness
So she said, "I guess I'll go."
Boy began to sigh, looked up at the sky,
And told the moon his little tale of woe

I think the song is refering to the kind of "moon" that comes in a Mason fruit jar!!!!

My Nana played it on the piano in Stride style similar to but a bit livelier than the piano in Leon's version. Just the best!

This song is 103 years old this year. Truly a classic of Americana, and no one does it better than Leon Redbone!
