I think Cane is right he needs to start making his own decisions instead of doing what everyone else tells him to do, but he is mad at the wrong person if he is mad at Lily.
Sure Cane is more attached to the child than Lily is. That is why he is angry. He has every right to angry with the troll and Billy but not with Lily IMO.
