@elmstreet777 It's not really supposed to be funny in the strictest sense. It's just supposed to make you have a response. If you hate it, it's done it's purpose just as well if you love it.
@elmstreet777 he plays a Broadway self-loving asshole singer, and makes it so remarkably profound that not anyone understands it. It's an art, not everyone feels and understands art. It's ok. Bieber wouldn't have understood it either.
Something is wrong with your audio its probably something Youtube changed recently that's causing this, i watched these clips severals times in the past months and the sound wasn't muffled like it is currently.
Every now and then the sound comebacks clear for a second but then quickly goes back to muffled.
listen at 8:49 it does it, i noticed this on the other parts too. Strange
i like the newer clifton better in terms of characterization, what with the constant frown and the jutting head, but this one's material is just funnier to me
This was one of his best. But, his greatest work is getting many many people to believe he is still alive. I'm amazed at how many don't know how he did it. He clearly knew he had a cancer before he revealed it to ANYONE. Then, he told a few individuals he was going to "fake" his death by having cancer (BEFORE revealing that he actually had it). The man was brilliant.
I know what ya mean. But, he had to upgrade it. This version wouldn't fool ANYONE after a while. It's pretty apparent who Tony is here.....especially to die hards like us. :)
Still, I think this version of Tony was much more funny! I didnt like the "final version" of Clifton very much at all! Ive been watching alot of Kaufman videos lately and this has to be my favorite, along with The Andy Kaufman Show clip when he interviews Elain Boosler!
@DrVegasIII agree with you, sir. I am a recent Kaufman convert-and have watched many times everything I can- this, for me, is the definitive and best Tony Clifton. Wish it had stayed this way and not mutated...but maybe in Andy's mind it had to...I like the Boosler clip too-and the Zmuda/Kaufman on "Bananaz" children's TV clip.
Interesting that Andy isn't buried behind makeup this time. He's clearly recognizable, and yet somehow he seems more in character and more believable as Tony. What a complex genius that Andy Kaufman was.
Thought about it, but people might want to watch the entire show in order and changing the title of this would confuse a lot of people searching for part 3 of the show.
That's right, and remember this was Andy's impression of Tony Clifton. It wasn't until much later that the real Tony Clifton took offensive to this impression, and came into the public eye. Just to clarify.
@OddEye83 I thought this was Andy 'doing' Tony. The 'real' Tony Clifton performs in Las Vegas (with the shades and all). Didn't Andy say he used to steal Tony's bits which was why 'they' were at odds...
Kaufman was god and I'll tell you why. He believed in his art. he really really believed in it. He'd rather fail miserably doing what he loved thank succeed doing what he thought everyone else wanted. and thankfully, there were enough people who appreciated it so we got to see him perform.
Why? Better question is how did you even see that comment you replied to? You must have been on the Kaufman thread, as we all were. There's part of why the person wrote what they wrote.
my favourite part of this evening :)

Found the problem within seconds, it muffles when you play the videos in 480p, when you play it in 360p version the sound is clear like normal.
