I think function and status of the people is more important than race in these social settings. Would Perez Hilton have acted like this in front of the mightiest man in the world? Never.

He was able to do it at a beauty contest because the answers would be judged more on emotion than intellect. Perez wouldn't do it in front of Obama: He is intellectually inferior.

Last it was a big risk. His reaction could just as well turned the nation against the gay community. It didn't but it was risky.

Perez Hilton is a bullying little turd. He knew about Carrie Prejean's Christian background, and was baiting her with the question.

And now, Perez and fans are cheering she lost her crown. Keeping in mind she was trying her best to fulfill her contract, and she was fired without even being told. Carrie wanted to give medals at the Special Olympics, and they wouldn't let her. She volunteers with special needs people and wants to be a special ed teacher, that's what she does. She's a good person.

He also stated that the constitution should have no part in preventing same sex couples. "No offense" doesn't necessarily mean no negative feelings; if one were to say, "Please jump off a cliff" it would still be offensive.

Prejean initially said it's wonderful to be an American with the right to choose between same-sex marriage and opposite sex marriage. But then the religious right coddled her and suddenly she became a crusader against same-sex marriage. So, all her yakking about how great it is to be able to choose was just a farce. She really doesn't believe in a choice at all, especially when it benefits her "career" whims. I think Prejean is full of it.

I strongly agree with tubewatch59...Perez' behavior raises the question of whether a person that lousy and intolerant of other people's views should be allowed to be a judge in that kind of event. Indeed, Barack Obama was asked the same kind of question that Carrie Prejean was asked, the only difference: who evaluated the answer. I think that there should be more class when choosing the judges considering their professionalism when encountering uncomfortable situations

Miss USA isn't about politics or anything. It's about finding someone who cares about the happiness of other people. Their job is to appear neutral in most circumstances. The only time you sound negative to a question like that, is when it involves starving kids in Africa. A diplomat considers the feelings and worldviews of those around him or her. Her answer was very diplomatic indeed, while at the same time standing up for her own beliefs. She didn't let herself get pushed around, nor did she attack those she disagreed with. She merely stated her disagreement. She already included, not excluded, homosexuals and offered them her well wishes, while not compromising her own beliefs.

Compare her performance to Hilton's, and ask: Who behaved in a more diplomatic manner? Answer: Carrie Prejean.

By his reaction to her answer, I think he had a PERSONAL interest in her answer, was not objective & that made him a terrible judge.

I think Prejean didn't win namely because Hilton gave her a zero from what I heard. He had no basis for being there in the first place. Had it been up to America, she would've won. I thought it was great that she stuck with her beliefs despite knowing what people wanted to hear. I also think that the venue and her sex also played a role in why she lost, and not so much her race. She's in a beauty pageant (joke to some) and she's female; people have different expectations from women I think.
