One of my best childhood memories is having sleep overs at my grandma's house with my older sister. We'd stay up way too late and watch way too many old musicals on VHS. Whenever I hear this music I smile. I will always apreciate musicals, especially the old ones because of my grandma. She gave me something many kids my age don't have. (I'm a 14 year old in an iEverything generation.) Thank you so much for posting. Go Dolly!!!!
SI bien BARB siempre descalificó ésta pelicula dentro de su filmografia, sobre todo por ser muy joven para aquel personaje, para mi, es mi "Hello Dolly" elegida y éste "Tributo" bien merecido lo tiene!!! Gracias a MusicalAtmosphere.
Man, I remember seeing this in it's roadshow run. It replaced OLIVER! at the LOEWS TARA theatre in Atlanta and the theatre was a mob scene. HELLO DOLLY was an event and the audience loved it. The marquee had the font all lit up on it and it was a MAGICAL night. This film and OLIVER! were two of the finest musicals ever produced. What a time that was.
I was 12 when I 1st saw Hello Dolly. When on that double decker,in the feathered hat, she turned and smiled,I thought she was a goddess. Afew years late,I got to Garrison NY where the Yonkers scenes were filmed. In a store window was on display a toilet seat reading-Barbra Striesand Sat Here-
Barbara gave a wonderful performance in this part. She wasn't "too young" as some have said. Unfortunately, the leading male role was totally miscast. Walter Matthau was a top male comedic character actor in movies at the time. The movie's downfall was not his age, but because he played the part all wrong. Why would Dolly or anyone want to marry this miserable schnook? What a shame. It could have been a musical masterpiece if not for this major error.
I don't see it that way at all. I think that he played his role perfectly, and Dolly didn't want to marry him because of his personality, it was his money. That is the big joke really, that there is nothing attractive about him but she is still set on marrying him. It's not about love at all.
You may be one of the few people to get the big joke then. He received fairly tipid reviews in the role. You saw him salt his beets perfectly and I saw him salt his beets imperfectly...
Watch Barbra's reaction at the 2001 Lifetime Golden Globe awards when they play Hello Dolly clips. She is seen whispering to Jim, "Are they just playing the musical stuff?" She is almost embarassed by the film, even tho it's a fan fave.
i'm glad i could hear an overture to this show! it's beautiful and so is barbra! i think she may have been years too young for the role... but i just love her so much, i think she's the best dolly levi thus far!
love the vid! and it rocks in high quality! thanks a lot for the amazing-ness... ps, what video making software do you use? i only use windows movie maker for mine. and if there's a dowloadable version, do u kno where to get it?
I have always liked this movie musical and am a huge Streisand fan. I recently downloaded some more of her music and was wondering if there were any youtube clips from the movie. Bam. simple search and I find this and more.
Again, for those of us that are musical and streisand fans, thanks so mucn for producing this.
This is a fine tribute. It's so nice to see the film getting the respect it deserves. Nearly 40 years after its 1969 release, "Hello, Dolly!" is as fresh as ever and a joy to watch. Miss Streisand really did give a wonderful performance and she never looked more beauitful than in 'Dolly.' Thanks for sharing your tribute.
Hey thanks, that was great....I fell in love with Barbra, when I was sixteen and saw her atop the double decker, in the feathered hat. almost 40 years later, even as a Republican, I still love her....great video, great job....with the passing of Paul Newman, it makes you realize, the great stars are fading....Barbra was and still is the best! Great job, thanks!
This video has that "Sunday shine" and is a certain sign that you are a huge fan of this film...the editing is really creative, and includes a number of gorgeous pics I hadn't seen before....love that Overture...it goes so well with it.

Great video about great-great film ! Thanks !
But I'm curious: The music, as You use it here, does not come from the film soundtrack - is it a theatrical version overture or what ?

This music is from the 1994(I think-)Broadway production .
newrochellephoenix 2 years ago
@biografmand The music here is taken from the RCA 1967 recording starring Pearl Bailey. The overture was arranged expressly for that album.

agree, agree, agree!!!!
Barbra is absolutely FANTASTIC in this movie,
without her it would be just expensive crap, with her it is CLASSIC!
...and see her on the screen together with Louis Armstrong is pure ORGASM!
