It's only evolved once on Earth; bacteria are clearly the dominate life-form. So there could be life all over the universe but not much sentient life... but it's hard to know...

@Samantha22o2 scientists think that there is probably basic life (bacteria level) but that's not as interesting as intelligent life, and if you think about how quickly we advanced, it's very likely that once you get intelligent life, it won't take too long to get as advanced as, and more advanced than, us. (look at how advanced we got in the last 1000 years, and how advanced we got since being able to transmit radio waves to space.) hope that makes sense.

I agree with Dr Kaku about these 5%. 95% is just bs and easy to explain but these 5% are real deal. Military pilots, commercial pilots, state governor, military officers they saw something. Something that was not natural, something that was clearly technical and they could not explain it.

Given that our sun is not the oldest around, I believe that it would be strange if other intelligent civilazation did not also evolve, and thus have advanced further. Given that they have more advanced technology, and thus are able to contact us, why would they? It is just as Dr. Kaku says about the ants.

First, they wouldn't be arriving here to harvest our planet for natural resources, like they suggest in this film. I believe they see a great biological advantage to harvesting us. This is also a biological/evolutionary question: even if life is common in the universe, how common is consciousness/sentience? It's only evolved once on Earth; bacteria are clearly the dominate life-form. Sentient life is just a tiny portion of the tree, and then just one species capable of advanced technology (beyond nests, and manipulating sticks to enable the capture of insects). So there could be life all over the universe but not much sentient life... but it's hard to know...

Well that's not what I meant. I meant that most alien life would be shit like bacteria, fungus, plants; things that don't perceive the world in any subjective way. But I think conscious life necessarily needs reasoning, at least in the simplest sense. I think feelings, both physical and emotional, are an inevitable progression following the development of sentience. It would be interesting to know if any other apes on Earth will take more evolutionary steps towards humans.

I think the Fermi paradox proves that intelligent life in this galaxy is either non existent or extremely rare. There are 3 possibilities:
1. life is a freak and unique accident - we are doomed to cosmic loneliness
2. based on Fermi's paradox, there are other civilizations but very RARE, in which case civilizations would be overjoyed to find each other (rare = valuable)
3. life is utter commonplace, thus quite expendable commodity in which case hostility is more likely

@eydos I'd actually have to highly disagree with this. First of all we have just really started to seriously look for life in space. Just within the last few years we've already found HUNDREDS of Golide locks planets ( Very possible they have life). Plus what happens if we are not able to sense alien life. We only have 5 senses and there could be many more. I think we're going to find that this life is very rich in alien life !
