  • its so painful to watch.....good thing sinsects are mindess soulless creatures hahahahahaa

  • Our office rescued a mantis from a southern furniture shipment that was probably going to freeze to death. We feed her small enough insects that she can kill really quickly. With small grasshoppers, she prefers to nibble their heads off first, go through the bodies and munch on the legs for desert. Kind of like me and animal crackers. :P

  • Is Adam Sandler narrating this vid?

  • WHAT THE SO BIG GRasschopper wow.

  • You were working at night?

  • @xinic5 I was a pizza delivery driver, I worked sometimes till 1am.

  • What a way to go.

  • When i grow up i want to be a praying mantis.

  • @rollerbladingdude Make sure you chew your food properly

  • what type of mantis is that it looks huge, i had a mantis once but it was only like 3 and a half inches.

  • @Mantis897565 some mantis are a foot long :)

  • @Mantis897565 looks like a chinese mantis. females can reach nearly 6 inches long.

  • @keeyk118b It's cool to see that this video is still getting comments. This was one of the first things I ever posted here.

  • @ReddmanDGZ i rear wild caught mantis juves as pets and release them back where i caught them once they reach adults. wonderful little creatures. cute looking yet savage.

  • I wish i had a mantis that big, its beautiful. Plenty of grasshopers this time of year to feed her too.

  • @MrPitseleh the females are bigger than male

  • @101001avp Are you serious? I know that, if you look I said "her". I have two praying mantids in my room with me right now, both male.

  • @MrPitseleh It's really hard to tell the sex of insects like this, especially in the environment it was in (my backyard). Honestly, I'm not sure exactly what it was, so i just use default pronouns like 'him' or 'it'

Size matters in mantises, but even then around here the sizes can vary pretty wildly from a few inches to monsters like this one.

    I'm guessing it's a female since 1: it's late in the season and 2: it's really big.

Female mantises eat the male after copulation.

  • @ReddmanDGZ I know plenty thanks. And females don't always eat the male after they do it.

  • @MrPitseleh I might have been over generalizing on that point, yea.

  • That mantis is huge, didn't know they got that big.

  • i saw this happen once and they were like so fast i wuz runnin

the mantis was stabbing but the grasshopper was jumping on him

  • Grasshopper: Jeeeeeeeez... Hurry up, you lazy mantis! I'm bored and can't wait to reincarnate as some other creature which is hopefully placed somewhere higher in the food chain!

  • me and my friend found some preying mantis eggs but the best actual bug ive found around here is a scorpion and a snail

  • the females get much bigger than this one. yea that ones a male and the females eat the males right after mating. oh and that locust isnt the biggest thing manteses can take down. a female mantis about 6 or 7 inches long will take down tarantulas.... big tarantulas.

  • i love these guys. but i also like grasshoppers, poor guy.

  • I don't think "cute" is the best word to describe them, but they're interesting creatures. Harmless to humans and deadly to spiders.

  • @WillH1231 I think 'useful' describes mantises pretty well :)

  • its not . Grasshopperits a locust

    but nice vid

  • 100th comment and 77,777th viewer=D nice job getting this on film( =D!

  • nice find

  • you have learned well young grass hopper

  • Its been said before buuuut.,.

    Damn Nature! YOU SCARY!

  • lmao well said

  • ha!

  • A ver si aprendemos a enfocar la cámara, colega...

  • Its making love with the grasshopper!

  • Thats one big Chinese mantis...

  • mantis are on top of the insect food chain. they have been known to kill and eat ever mice and snakes.

  • Dayum, grasshopper is being eaten alive, bite by bite. They must have powerful legs to be able to hold down such large prey. They have no instinct to kill their prey before consuming it. They just start eating them alive.

  • i was at work and we seen a Mantis so we caught it put it ina hamster aquarium thing with a good habitat..then we seen a grashopper just like that one caught it and 10 minutes later...it was gone lol mantis was hungry :P

  • if u bothere a mantis enough they will fight back i sware i found a huge one and i was trying to catch it but it keeped jumping aways so i finally got it and it started fucking up my finger biting and clawing it

  • do grasshoppers bite cuz they hav a big mouth

  • yes, they do bite, and it fucking hurts. grab them in front of the hind legs, otherwise the bigger ones will pop round and tear the shit out of your finger if you aren't expecting it

  • for real damn i did not know that mantis dont bite but grasshoppers do how ironic

  • yeah i didnt know for sure until one of them got me on the knuckle of my index finger the other day. I asked my dad, him and his mates in a diamond mine used to catch larger tropical green grasshoppers, would be about twice the length of that one in the video.

First one he caught came around and bit him, left him with a half inch long scar on the top of his finger, thus the grasshopper was named Stanley.

  • damn guess there not as harmless as i thought

  • mantids LOVE grasshoppers

  • The grasshopper was grabbing the leaf hoping to pull away screaming, "I want to live!"

    OWNED!!

I notice how they always go for the neck like Vampires, but vampires don't each your brains and eventually your body. Man I miss my Mantis. I would love to find one in the park one day.

  • the mantis is like.....NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM ...ummm...tastes just like chicken!

  • ha .. .thats funny!! :)

  • hey is it ok if baby mantises eat baby fly's and magets???

  • man this so offenseive grasshopper are kwler then any other bug!

  • "Sure, you can watch but can one of you fuckin' help me?!" LOL

  • Now that's a pretty damn big Mantis.........

  • grasshopper says: AAAAHH THE PAINNN

  • Noooo poor lil' grasshopper!

    lol Redz ur nutty

  • GRASS HOPPER is gone kid....

  • Go GRASS HOPPER

  • ROCK ON!if u love grashopper's check out our lame videos!

  • Jack Black WTF?

  • beeing eaten alive... that aint a good way to die....

  • You suck Bbiguy...

  • Theres no capitals in bbiguy you peice of dad fucking shit Id bet you hate me cause of my last post maybe it happend to you dickless go forth and die <3

  • its a nice mantid mate

  • That's huge..

  • I believe this is Chinese mantis introduced to U.S. about a century ago. This species is known to catch and eat small birds, lizards and snakes.

  • It is, you can tell by its stripes down its head.

  • yes and it can be deadly for farmers i mean for their hops and all that thats why species from other countries dont have to enter other ecosystems or something like that

  • nice video man. mantis' are sooooo slow to kill their prey, like a pensioner eating his dinner.

  • I'm sure it would take us a long time too if we ate a dinner that was bigger than our heads. ;)

  • well my dinner's always bigger than my head, that's why i'm so fat. but i get you're point :P

  • check mantis whacked grasshopper. the mantis there is actually the just slight longer than the grasshopper it was attacking.

  • holly thats huge :P

  • steve irwin!! haha.. i just found a mantis outside i out it in a 100 cd stack container.

i think its a female i need to find something for her to eat! any suggestions

  • mantis eat anything they can overpower. ideal size is about 1/4 of the length of your mantis. spiders crickets grasshoppers. even small lizards the mantis will eat them all

  • its cruel.....

  • mantis can take down a mouse. nice real coverage. BUGGUY dse

  • Ghaaa-Dang!!! That Sh*t Was F*ckin' Pimp!! If Only You Would Have Gotten When The Mantis Posts Up On The Gasshopper And B*tch Slaps Him On Tape!! L.O.L

  • can you imagine if these were ... i dunno 5 ft tall? they would come out of nowhere grab you and eat you alive.....think about it

  • Too scary to think about, because it would be a slow, painful, humiliating way to go. Black/Brown Bears have been known to eat people alive. According to experts, you might live through the first hour of a bear eating you, because they tend to start with the lower body and work their way up.

  • why don't you run away?

  • We would still be more superior.. Even though they are an excelent predetor and if they were the same size as use, we would still be more domenant coz we have intelegence :P

  • If all humans were as intelligent as the Mantis, we would be a formidable species indeed.

For without patience, how would we survive?

  • lolz...mantids aren't that intelligent. I raise them, love them to death, but they're kind of dumb bugs. :D

  • the poor grasshopper is getting eaten alive

  • Maybe these fellows will learn the language of civil society by the time they post again.

  • Great animal, i love them.

They are so perfect adapted to the way they live and so deadly dangerous, imagine this one was 2 meters tall.....

  • its okay if you are AFRAID as in, AFRAID of mantises. but if HATE them as in you HATE them so much you wanna kill them, then you must be a mantis yourself. they kill pests. they eat other insects for some reason. how would you feel if you're so hungry, no ther food is around? you might even try to eat other people or something if you're desperate. and they're just insects, man!

  • poor grasshopper :(

  • dummy.

  • lol is this even a fight? haha

  • lol at my old school we captured a prying mantis and grasshopper and made them fight so jokes and sad for the cricket

  • Mantis' are awesome!! .... I just fed my pet a cricket!

  • Yeah in some countries the hatch mantis eggs in gardens and on crops cuz they dont hurt the crops or flowers and they kill and eat everything that does.

  • WHY ONLY GUYS DO THIS KIND OF THINGS?

  • BECAUSE WE'RE ASSHOLES.

  • and because girls are sentimental pussies.

  • as much as i hate mysogony and the abuse of women, i cant really disagree with your point happycow :/ lol.

  • i'm not a wuss and i'm a girl :) death is a normal part of the world.

  • hahahaha.

    Good one.

  • marcusdangel. Yeah your right about what you just said. Its their way of life on how they eat and what they eat. it might be cruel in some way but I just realise its a way of life.

  • to allcatslover, umm no they are helpfull to land, (I can't tell you what to like or not) praying mantis are helpfull if you had a garden and bred some mantis and release them the would get ride of most harmfull insect (we've done and it works) with out all that pestasides bs (but you like and hate what you want i am just telling a fact) ( they are my favorite insect)

  • This is extremely true. Everyone who thinks all Mantises should die should trying telling that to farmers. The mantis is one of the best things to have crawling around your farm

  • olivepip90 i completely agree with you. i hate them too. they are useless monsters among many helpless insects. i'd kill them all.

  • they are not useless monsters, they destroy pests and protect farmers farms WHO PRODUCE YOUR FOOD you ungrateful shit, mantis's rock and i hope one bites your head off.

  • You would kill them, because you fear them.

  • No I don't fear them.

    I wasn't even serious when I said that. :/

    Weirdo-insect-lover. :l

  • str8 snackin

  • I'm reporting live where a mantis is eating a grasshopper! Who will save this poor defenseless insect? Me, you, Superman, or Optimus Prime? I just wanted to be funny that's all! ^-^ LOL

  • morons dont talk bad about Steve

  • Where can I find a video of a praying mantis being eaten or dying or something. I hate them...

  • why do you hate them? they are beautiful insects.

  • He wishes death on them so he can sleep at night without fear.

  • thats a huge mantis.

  • nice find

  • "Grasshopper's like 'let me go!' Mantis is like 'f**k you I'm eatin'your head'" LOL ^-^

  • hahahahahhahahahah :-D

  • Oh you like that huh, egplayer412? Well get this, I love that line!!!!!!!!!

Ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!XD

  • there was a video of vulture eating a young jackal alive on youtube for a while but i cant find it no more. kinda reminded me of the praying mantis in the way it calmly slowly eats its prey alive.

  • I saw some picture of a mantis catching and eating a humming bird. Cool vid guys!!

  • you gotta love nature

  • they are one of the cruelest killers just because they got no venom and have to eat their victims alive

  • u are a weird kid

  • R.I.P. "Young Grasshopper"..b.t.w. Do you think we should let ourselves get eaten by sharks? It would be "the natural order or things."

  • Humans and other primates are not, and have never been, a natural food for sharks.

  • mostly, sharks dislike human flesh... when someone gets bitten by a shark, its generally because of the sharks curiosity or defense against what it feels is threatening it... i love sharks, but i respect them, dammit... never going up against one of them fuckers just cause i like them and would like to pet them, now would i?

  • acctually the more natural order would be beaing eaten be eagles/snakes/leapords and other cats.

  • nice due
