@:45 "Americans expect the internet to be open to everyone." Ok, so then why leave it to the government which censors content on TV and Radio, issues fines for "decency standards violations" that they invented and the DHS, which seizes websites without a hearing? As far as bandwidth, why should someone who downloads very little subsidize those who download or stream a lot? The infrastructure and power required take money to run, after all.
@adiostraitorobama We're trying to protect and grow the future of free speech, innovation, and small business. That's why net neutrality is referred to as "the first amendment of the Internet." And supported even by conservative groups like the Gun Owners of America and the Christian Coalition. It's not a left vs. right issue. It's a freedom vs. monopoly issue. We're not so different friend. We share so many of the same values.
@godot73 The government IS a monopoly. Where there are few ISPs to choose from are usually a direct result of government sponsored phone monopolies. But, where the markets are allowed to work free from the hand of government, the net gets faster and better.
@adiostraitorobama This is about the basic principle of "open networks" or common carriage that America has used to protect free speech and real free market competition against monopolies in other great networks. From the railway, to electricity, to the telephone. It's not radical. It profoundly conservative in the sense of: let's stick with what works. And what works is is a neutral network.
@adiostraitorobama Friend, I understand your skepticism about anything involving the government. I share it. But we have to be aware that government regulation is not the ONLY threat to our freedoms. MONOPOLIES can also abuse our freedoms and threaten our pocketbooks. That's what this is about. We need more free market competition and choice in America's broadband market. Without it, a handful of big monopolies will change the way the Internet works, and tilt the field to their advantage.
