not counting all of joy divisions genius song writing ect. ian was the most honest performer front man.he moved from his disease into the music.nothing remotely fake about that.not trying to please anyone.
Obviously one for the die hard fans. Audio is terrible (even for the tube) unless he really did sound this bad? All in all this is far from the best version of the song I've ever heard.
It's pointless even to write Joy Division never sold out, of course not, they did not survive long enough to get to that point where they would of been tested. On the other hand New Order most certainly did, they whored their tracks, mostly because the Hacienda and other mad projects at Factory made them skint!
nirvana had a huge production budget and were very high quality, and essentially a pop band who charted very well. although great, not raw, unless you're talking about early demos.
Nirvana existed for four years before any real money rolled it - they were dirt poor! High quality - wtf - they were lo-fidelity purists!
Not raw?? LOL - that's like saying The Clash sound like chamber music.. Pop Band?!? find a current pop band with songs labelled "territorial pissing" or "rape me".. They were anti-pop.. Seriously man, is the crack good?
"Not raw?? LOL - that's like saying The Clash sound like chamber music.. Pop Band?!? find a current pop band with songs labelled "territorial pissing" or "rape me".. They were anti-pop"
if you think nirvana's anti-pop you're wrong. their songs were raw but with pop structure. listen to suicide, the pop group, john cage and the scientist. even punk music has the pop format. there's nothing alternative about the clash or nirvana's sound. great bands but not exactly 9 hour songs of white noise.
the difference is, Nirvana were sellouts, unlike joy division which makes joy division's music much more rich, plus grunge is not complex, which shows you their is no comparison between a band with talent like joy division to a pathetic band that required of 2-3 chords to play
@Exeron91 hmmm....dident really need toi t was a band effort rather than the guitar bores of the early mid seventies, i think extra complex guitar would have detracted from the other three and the songs would have needed more complex arrangements the energy would have been blunted, i think really they had the balance just right, as warsaw they were too limited , if they made higher virtuoisty music it is probable the overall effect would diminish but the time machine is still in garage.
Right on....bs and ph play the most pissant and trifling two note riffs, the kind you play when you've just started playing and you think "christ I'm terrible"...but all these trivial parts come together to form something that's timeless and captivating(I know that's really awful writing), and steve vai couldn't touch that shit with a ten foot pole.
Forget all the political bs just sit back and enjoy a genius at work. Ian you are missed RIP. I'm 40 now and this still sounds just as awesome as the first time I heard it. Joy Division truly are peerless. Just my opinion so flame away.
What is that a hateful comment for attention it's music man everyone has a different taste because we are all unique and different and if you don't like them you can say that but don't demean them just to get a rise out of people that's just childish and I'm sure your better than that.
Reznor covers Joy Division out of respect and a love for their music.
It always has to be one or the other, this is better than that, puff your chest out and proclaim dominance.Good music is good music so just leave it at that.
Def. and double true with the moby cover he did for the movie HEAT. The only cover i hate is the one from the killers but that's because flowers is a homo. the covers also mutually compliment each other, too
you are very unaware,After taking power in 1933, the Nazis persecuted homosexuals as part of their socalled moral crusade to racially and culturally purify Germany.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Not really, i did know that, but being a national socialist doesn't neccesary mean that you stand for facism, racism and homophobia etc.
Nazis did not only persecute homosexuals, but literaly wiped berlin from sexual filth (the whole place was pretty much a borthel, prostitutes and drugs everywhere).
being socialist isn't bad at all and in principle socialists aren't racist or homophobes . BUT being nationalist isn't just simply something inspired by a love for the nation but it's a way to reject everything different from them (religiously , racially ...) .it can be characterized by the persecution of minorities ( for exemple homos). If you don't believe me ask the nazis what they think of Gays !
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Sigh..
Nationalism pretty much began as a cultural trend, to be proud of what the nation has achieve and to develope it. In other words, it's national dignity and had alot to do with ar.
Now it may describe pretty much as you said, but putting it that is little dumb.. There are some nationalist and righ-wing homosexuals for example that Swiss politican.
Nationalist don't like homos because for them, it represents perdition and bad values.
he had seizures in quite a few shows during their last tour of the UK, but i think sam riley must've watched this video before they shot the scene from control.
Because there is simply nothing to comment on music such as that produced by Joy Division,
I will only point out the irony in "Dead Souls- Live"

It's been just 30 years since Ian Curtis took the hard decision to leave us.
But his soul is well alive into us, as Joy Division's sound and legacy are unique, as much in the years to come, as in all those past.
