Wonderful Hat cake!!! I totally love it! My husband and I have a vow renewal ceremony comming up.....this is a great video which I will deffinitely be taking advantage of; Thank You!
hi Laura this im also Laura. im trying to learn how to do the hat part how is it that u did it? i had used 2 8 inch cake cans and a oval i belive a 6 inch and placed it on top of the 2 inch but it looked really ugly could u please help me?
Hi Laura! I used the same pan sizes you used as wll. The trick is in the carving. It helps to have a picture of a hat in front of you so you can carve it by eyeballing it. :0)
Thank you! Actually, same but different. LOL! Gumpaste is fondant that has gum mixed into it like tylose, CMC, or gum tragacanth. It makes it pliable but hardens like teracotta clay. :0)
Awesome!!! Thank you for showing us how you put it together. My pop is turning 65 this year and I may make this for him. He's a preacher and wears these hats alot.
What size was the brim cut out? Or should I say how many inches wide was the circle that you cut out?

How many servings would just the hat portion have?
NappynHappy81 1 month ago
This one if I remember correctly was carved out of 6" rounds so probably around 8 servings.
laurapoopie 1 month ago
@laurapoopie so you did 3 layers that were 6" and then the smaller top cake was a 4"?
NappynHappy81 1 month ago
The top cake (the hat) was carved out of 6" rounds. The bottom tier (the brown one) were 8" rounds. :)

@laurapoopie Thanks. I guess in the picture it looked like a smaller layer was sitting on top of the 6" cakes. Sorry for all the questions...

Hey Laura, this is great! Do you make your own gum paste or use a pre-made one?

It's not really much of a recipe. LOL! If you go to Aine2's page here on youtube, you will find the tutorial. That's where I got it from. :)
