  • JUST RAW A.........TALENT....... NEVER FORGET YOU MY DEAR.....EVAH, EVAH, EVAH, EVAH!!!!! OH YES, IT WORKS, VERY UNIQUE, NOBODAYYYYYY LIKE HERRRRR!!!! like to know who she was singing to, had to be some bum!!!

  • Wow, this is just plain raw, gut wrenching, soul. Usually I don't like singers who do too many runs and curly cues in their singing but it works for her.

All you can do is wave your hand and testify when you hear this!!. Now I know why there was always something abt Teena Marie's voice that was familiar. I was a little kid when this song was popular but the older kids/teenagers used to play this alllllllll the time.

  • i think aretha is overrated linda jones and gladys knight are the true queens of soul for me ,its like james brown he should be the godfather of funk (not Soul) probably it should have been jackie wilson

  • @newt513

    @READY4REV

    @DaOrigTruthSeeker

I just want to start by saying that I am a HUGE Linda Jones fan. The passion she transfers to your heart is Almost unmatched. That being said, I do feel that she sometimes Over riffs or Over sings (ie: see Johnny Gill live, just saying...) when at times less is simply more. She is still however, one of my favorites...

  • Linda's voice is undisputed!

  • Aretha can NOT TOUCH LINDA!!!

  • @READY4REV: People do go just too far. Linda is good but she don't have nothing on Aretha. Aretha is the undisputed QUEEN OF SOUL....now let's get back to reality.

  • Linda Jones had a voice of her own....

  • dang all this time im thinkin teena marie was so unique but its clear as a bell who she emulated but still tina was bad

  • Not taking anything away from Aretha! BUT YES MS. JONES WAS BADDDDDDDDDDDDD!

  • This girl was BADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!

  • @SHERIONTIM: Now that's going a little too far. She is good but she ain't got no work for Aretha Franklin. Maybe you shouldn't drink when you are taking your medication cause they don't mix. In this song she sounds like she has the hickups....too chopy for my taste. ARETHA is the undisputed QUEEN OF SOUL.

  • The best female artist that heard that from Jersey.

  • I like this version better then the moments, very soulful just give me chills listening this song.

  • In my opinion, LINDA JONES is THE BEST SINGER to ever come out of NEWARK, N.J.

Newark has had some great ones, SARAH VAUGHN, WHITNEY HOUSTON, GLORIA GAYNOR to name a few. However, Linda's voice is extremely unique, soulful, and simply beautiful.

  • My favorite female singer.

  • Damn, this is music at its purest. We ain't kicking no bitches and killing no cops or selling no drugs. This is pure unadulterated music from the soul and for the soul.

  • Its like your ears hear the words she is talking but your soul only hears what she is singing (riffs). I cant understand too much of what she is saying but my heart hears every word she is saying.

  • This is for real! You can feel the pain and longing in her voice! A real DIVA!

  • HER VOICE AND HOW SHE PUTS THIS SHIT TOGETHER IS JUST CLASSIC. CLASSIC. CLASSIC.. NO CHIC CAN COM CLOSE

  • Her voice was so powerful that it capture my attention and my heart. I would come home from High School and turn the radio on and when she came it brought tears to my eyes. I never heard any one come close to her voice. I never heard any one come close to David Ruffin either. My to favorite singers of all time.

  • @SHERIONTIM

You listed two of the greatest singers and voices of all time.

When David Ruffin quit the Temptations I cried.

I was ten years old at the time and a die-hard Temptation devotee.

Luther Van Dross was the only other singer with a baritone/2nd tenor that even came close to Ruffin.

  • THE REAL QUEEN OF SOUL!!!!

  • @SHERIONTIM yep

  • If you listen carefully, you'll hear that she sings both the lead and background vocals. A short life and great talent gone too soon. From one Jersey girl to another, Much love. ( RIP)

  • @cruzinpc absoulutly right its all her and her soulful voice, she's from my home town newark new jersey she was good friends wth my mom and dad who also passed. They would sit in the living room getting high and she would start singing

  • @gamagan1 FOR YOUR PRECIOUS LOVE IS THE FIRST SONG I BELIEVER I HEARD THAT SHE SANG........I LOVE THIS ONE....AT 7 YRS OLD....THAT WAS A LOT FOR A CHILD TO SEE, I CAN JUST IMAGINE THE ROOM WAS PROBABLY FILLED WITH SMOKE AND ONE OR TWO DRINKS HERE OR THERE AND THE GROWN UPS JUST CHILLIN HARD, AND SOMETHING PROBABLY HIT HER, SHE WAS PROBABLY A LIL LIT,, AND SHE JUST STARTED SINGING AND CAPTURED THE ROOM, THEN THERE YOU WAS IN THE DOOR TAKIN IT ALL IN. • Lawd baby i'm so weak.Thank You for postin this. Maybe the youngsters will know what real soul/rb music is. I can't believe I was blessed enough to see her perform. I will always love her music and forever cherish her voice. Nobody can touch Ms. Jones' ability to make you feel what she's singing. Teena Marie has admitted that she was influenced by the one and only Linda Jones.Another angel plucked from us too soon. Thank God for recorded music. Linda Jones forever. RIP

  • The great Linda Jones!!!!! R.I.P Amazing!!

    That voice....

  • Ms. jones was the greatest songstressI heard going up as child and has been a great influence in my singing

  • Thank you turquoiz for posting these songs. I was at the Apollo with my family on the weekend she performed, by Monday we heard she had passed away, I was so shocked ; she sang her heart out that night, and she looked so beautiful. I'm from Newark NJ and I grew up hearing and knowing about Linda Jones she was a household name. My family and I attended her wake it was very sad.

  • When I hear Linda Jones, I hear Tina Marie. I wonder if Tina will say her style was influenced by Linda Jones.

That being said - I've always loved Linda Jones. I was a teenager when she was out. I had no idea she'd died, early, until a few months ago. Back then, artists appeared and disappeared so abruptly. From the comments on YouTube, I'm realizing many died, early.

  • i was a young boy when i first heard her she kissed me. i loved her then, I'm 50 now and I still love her

  • shagorocka87 were on the same page im 49. this women was in a class by her self. a timeless classic to remember.

    rip ms jones.

  • Linda Jones is truly a legend. I love her wide vocal range on this song as well as her other songs. No one could ever imitate nor duplicate this song the way SHE sings it. She really put her hear & soul into this song. RIP Linda.

  • Linda Jones was one my favorite singers. She raised the bar for Soul (emotional body) Singing.

  • It appears these songs are about the personal problems in their lives. It is just amazing how heartfelt the songs can be. I love to hear artist like Linda Jones, giving her songs such a powerful, soulful and emotional deliverance. If you are not touched by her vocals, then you do not know the feeling of good singing.

  • i totally agree, she definitly sang with deliverance, and for me if ppl dont feel her music, they just cant be human. a soulful, timeless, classic piece, rip linda

    gamagan1

  • mindblowing gut wrenching deep soul

  • The original is by the Moments.

  • She died in 1972 after collapsing backstage at the Apollo Theater. Diabetes complications caused her death, she was 28 years old.

  • she did NOT collapse backstage she went home bet shows and died there per her own daughter

  • Thank you for clearing that up. I dont know where people get this backstage at the Apollo Theater mess!!!

  • I always knew that Tina Marie reminded me of someone - couldn't nail it down--and here it is--- Linda Jones - All these rifts - I can hear Tina...

  • Wow, i was telling someone else this same thing about Teena Marie and Linda Jones...It's cool to know that I am not the only one who believes that Teena may have been inspired by Linda Jones. I'm sure she would not mind it being said.

  • This is such a beautiful song; one of the greatest modestly known songs of all time. When I first heard this song I coupled instantly. I searched for years in vain trying to find out who the artist (title) was. Now thanks to technology I can hear it like 100 times in a row with no distractions...Thanks for placing this wonderful piece of art on YouTube.

  • There are absolutely no singers today that can make u feel like your being sung to by an artist. Everytime i hear this song, i feel like Linda is talking directly to me. LOL. Im alomost tempted to scream back, "If u felt like this way, why didnt u say so"? Rest In Peace my sister.

  • OMG. This sister can sing. WOW, what a song. Gone to soon

  • anybody no the original of this i think it was sylvia

  • thefrontline23 The Moments originally recorded this song. Sylvia Robinson was writer or co-writer. It was recorded on the Stang/Platinum label owned by Robinson and her husband. She also owned Sugarhill records that produced Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper;s Delight".

  • She was the REAL queen of soul,

Taken too soon to claim her throne.

Try if you dare, though none will compare,

To the lady that was Ms. Jones.

  • WOW!!!!!!!!!!!

  • very good version of this song

  • The Moments R the Moments & Linda Jones is Linda Jones this is a version that will always B remember.New Jersy very own Ladies & Gentlemen know forther introduction the 1 and only Linda Jones

  • this woman is all of that, damm listen to that voice.

  • excuse me, do you have a download link for linda jones' greatest hits?

  • She scats and runs like a preacher. Linda Jones is the Pioneer of Verbrato. Cop that Greatest hit of Linda Jones, its a must have. Also, Allynson Williams do a mean remake also.

  • Thats the truth...Doing them runs like she was cousin to the Clark sisters or Kim Burrell

  • Linda Jones was one of the great old school R & B singers. She sung from her soul 4real.

  • Another song from this period that falls under the "belting begging diva" category is Laura Lee's version of "Since I Fell For You." Talk about obscure, it is as obscure as this one. I dont see it posted anywhere but it should be. Love this era... vocals all the way, no fancy technology, just a sister, her voice and her emotion. You go girl!

  • I'm offended that you would place Laura Lee in the same category as the Legendary Miss Linda Jones. Laura's a FOOL!, Linda would chew her ass up!, Ms.Leila James, Alyson Williams,

Phil Perry, KEM, Jeffery Osbourne, Stephaine Mills, even Amy Winehouse(on a good day) could outsing poor ass Laura. We talking about Verbrato, scat, Dips, and Thunder in their voices., Ms. Laura sounds like she got throat cancer.

  • great music

  • man she is begging!!!

  • Oh, they got all of her joints! way-ta go!!!!

  • People just do know about good music you know this was done by the blue notes.
