When Chev makes a V8 like the Camaro V6 with integral exhaust manifolds in the head, it will be a good engine. Safety wire on exhaust manifold fasteners is a good idea. I suppose you just drill holes in the bolt heads and thread it around somehow. Clips and the like can go missing.
we have a 99 yukon with 5.7 vortec it is knocking now which is the connect rod but sounds like you might have a whole in ur manifold or bad plugs and wires
At 2:43 Why do you have that opening on your engine? I have it to! Its my first car, I know nothing about mechanics, Is that opening suppose to be like that or is something missing? and if so, what ? :O
@xboxisbeast101 We have one of those. Works just as well as the truck you see here. Its not like buying a ford is going to magically fix all my problems. It will break sooner or later, just like every other vehicle.
you need a valve adjustment. and possibly the way it sounds a new set of donut gaskets for your exhaust manifolds too but before you do all of that how about running some seafoam through it by the vacuum line from your power brake booster just in case it's just a plugged up catalytic converter.
I have the same engine in my 93 truck, and i was wondering how to adjust the timing. I had to replace the distributor and since then i hasnt been running right and i know it has ho be that the timing is off but i dont know how to correct it with this type of distributor? If anyone knows send me a message thanks
Deff, Exhaust leak, If It was a rod knock, the engine would make a noticeable knock even at idle. Also to be on the safe side with it having high miles, I would recommend you check your oil levels every week at keep at least a quart in the truck at all times.{esp pulling loads}
Surprisingly it doesn't burn any oil for all those miles. This motor gets run very hard pulling loads or just having fun and I have never noticed a problem. I believe most of that's just from taking good care of it, like using WIK over sized oil filters, and royal purple oil, frequent tune ups, etc. I did get it fixed though (was an exhaust gasket leak).
@smokey65662 WOW no oil consumption, pretty suprising, course it is a 350{one of GM best engines} but still surpising esp with that being towing miles. Proves strict maintenance pays off. Glad you got it fixed.
@watso64 I have thesame knock I bought headers to get rid of this BS exhaust manifolds and throwing headers on. I'm hoping it's the exhuast leak on mine
Sounds to me like exhaust check manifold to pipe on drivers side. Engine torques and connection may loosen maybe bad motor mount. Sounds like it runs good for that many miles.
@corvettegeorge79 Yes u are right. We had it checked out today, and it was a bad exhaust gasket on the drivers side rear cylinder. It does run pretty good. Always taken good care of it.
my truck made tha same noise and it turned i had a hole in my header

sounds like a exhaust leak. Use a rubber hose and hear through it around the exhaust and it will sound through the hose and you will find ur problem

Sounds like an exhaust leak. Most likely EGR valve gaskets, or a loose intake.

The best oil and filters wouldn't need changing every 3,000 miles. The noise you mention does sound like an exhaust leak.

my 94 made the same noise, it was caused by a rusted out y pipe where it bolts to the exhaust manifold.
