  • MY FAVORITE SITE, 5-8 OF US GUYS TRESPASSED INTO IT AT LEAST 20 TIMES IN A MONTH AT NIGHT, AMAZING SECURITY GUARDS IN THERE, SAW ONE OF THEM SLEEPING IN A SHED WHILE LISTENING TO MUSIC ON RADIO . I THINK IT WAS MONJON SECURITY GUARDS. WILL GONNA GO IN THERE AGAIN SOMEDAY.

  • THE WORST thing is it's right at my surf spot and i can't bloody get to it.The money isn't the real price,it's the earth+my surf! The majority of this water will go to Melbourne,so why not built in melbourne,VOTES.they can place it since we are not as major vote as other viable places near melbourne. The only up for the locals, jobs. These short term jobs were mostly given to fat cat melbourne based people! The locals who work at this,"place",will not get there jobs back! they go soft there.*sucks!*

  • Just a warning you may notice expensive state of the art homes being sold around bay areas of melbourne for a lot less.the time will come and where you will not be able to sell your bayside home for the price you expect . you just watch!

  • Yeah - you can water your garden and feel good about it...and then one day go to the beach and wonder why there are less marine life. Don't use water wisely and have drought loving plants in your garden. Don't try to do anything that'll benefit anything but yourself - stay lazy and take the easy road. Water tanks fit in any property. They can go underground. Unless you live in a box. You obviously are. The mentality of people is scary - no wonder the world is dying.

  • Happy to see water restriction lifted in Victoria, the desal plant is being built and will be fantastic. At least I know now, I can water my garden around my house, and feel good about it!

  • @MRMILO57 Why would you feel good about using a limited resource obtained by such a costly and damaging method. Why don't you get a rain water tank instead?

  • @1dschamp ....whats damaging about a water desalination plant?

I feel good because I can water my garden, rains water tank will not fit on my property!

  • @MRMILO57 I agree with the Desal plant going in,it should have been higher tho we cannot say what will happen in time to come,If we had not had the rain in melbs catchments, and they are still no where full melbourne and subs would be in big trouble,Water Tanks have to be min 5000 Gallons with a single filter for a good safe drink, all new houses should be fitted with tanks...underground. I live in a rural area and don't suffer the worry of water shortage, for family and livestock, never have.

  • A desalination plant build on top of a wetlands and next to a river . The site was under water last year and and the year before that so let it rain.

  • retard hippys this is good for us if use r so upset when where out of water we willl put u in a hole

  • brumby and holding your clowns, you'll always be clowns, and your stupid bloody desal plant will always be stupid thing to do! your hair brined idea of north south pipeline will also always be a stupid thing to do. you will be the premier and water remembered for ruining the environment and wasting more tax payers money than ever. how's that gonna go come election day boys?

  • soon only the rich can afford to wash

    Can't wait

  • @USERNAME3392 You could be right! water wars bring it on!

  • Soon only the rich can afford to wash

    Can't wait

  • This thing is a joke why do they put it here when all the water it makes goes back to melboune anyway. Why can't they put near Melbourne??

  • Kilcunda

  • It doesn't matter where your government decides to build a desalination plant, the damn environmentalists will find a reason to bitch. I wish we had those plants here in California, we're running out of fresh water. Aussies should be happy that their govt is actually doing something about the water problem instead of complaining. I'm sure those overgrown rats will find plenty of other space on your continent to run around.

  • NOT TO BE RACIST but u sound like a typical backward american YOU HAVE NO FUCKING IDEA WHAT THIS DOES TO THE EVIORNMENT.... THE ECONMY... THE COMMUNITY.. MY FRIENDS.. ME... 2000 truckloads of waste 2.2 per cent of the power grid the equivilent of an extra 330,000 cars on the road and sooo much more DO SOMETHING my ase MORE LIKE LOOK LIKE YOU HELPING WHEN YOU MAKING IT SO MUCH WORSE OUR GOVERNMENT IS A LOAD SHIT think yourself lucky
  • theres plenty other ways to find water, that dont destroy the environment as much. Wonthaggi has no industrial work on it whatsoever Mornington peninsula is completely commercialised and has the correct current systems for such a plant. Even environmentalists are suggesting it should be on the peninsula where they have sewerage outlets. But yes recycling water and using grey water systems is so much better then a desal plant

  • Hi enduringluv - they are saying $3.2 billion to build.

  • Dont forget 3.8 million per year to maintain this monster

  • Your grasp of the English language is truly impressive!

I'll leave your comment up only to show everyone the type of ignorance we are dealing with.

I do agree proper management is required - that's the whole point - and why a desalination plant is unnecessary. If we managed our current resources properly (ie recycle & capture rain water) then we wouldn't need a power hungry desal plant.

  • The Government thinks this is a industrial Zone ?

  • 1. Why dont they build a very small and virtually relocatable plant as a prototype, better to lose $5m that way, even further up the coast perhaps. 2.Why not start to consider pumping seawater up past city elevation and gradually istal a seawater reticulation system which millions of industrial, and even many residential users, couls tap into over next 50 yrs. (toilets 1st priority, cleaning etc). Also "blend" uses (salty foods, soups?). We may save billions of fresh litres easily by sea water.

  • Spot on mate, and I would like to point out again, water is right (essential service) not a priveledge! The government 'and' conservationist are trying to make water a priveledge!

THAT IS ILLEGAL! the government know it and know the legal implications. Ask yourself, has the state owned water authorities actually draged someone to court and charged them for watering there gardens! NO!

  • Agree, Labour in Victoria, there days are numbered. I am annoyed as well, by there mishandling of our taxes, it pisses me off as well. Some projects have to be built, it is vital for the state. Finding a balance is the key.

  • fishie151..No doubt about it south gippsland is beautiful, completely agree with you there. But you must stop and look at the bigger picture, we have a growing population, that needs water. The desal plant is a great idea, water is guaranteed for future growth. I am sure it will be responsibly managed, the only problem I have with it is the cost, I think the Victorian tax payers are getting ripped off big time, I can't see how that plant could cost 3. something Billion dollars.

  • it can be put somewhere else. There are problems regarding currents and water movement. The government also considered using the peninsula.. but i guess they didnt do that because they were so worried about the massive protests. Heck if the government didnt rack our money, we could all buy water tanks and recieve water for free and without damaging the environment.

  • You can lead a Brumby to Water but ya can't make it Think

  • the problem with the desalination plant in victoria is that it is going to run on coal (a fossil fuel)

fossil fuels are running out as it is and they effect the environment dramatically.

i believe that this is a bad idea to have a desalination plant in victoria.

  • it's true...

why the hell don't they make a desalination plant that runs on solar power??

  • they shouldnt make a desal plant at all. they will still pump all the waste back into the ocean.

  • mate solar power wont be enough. Its proven, if this desal plant were to be fed by solar energy, we would need a solar power station bigger then the current worlds largest solar power station in mildura

  • solar energy hitting the earth in one day can power the earth for one year...

people just too scared to take the risk.

aussie desert is the number one place in the world for solar power.

    IT IS ENOUGH!!

  • so who wont's to be on this track walking in the morning or cycling on a nice weekend and see this desal plant

  • imagine how horrified the countries/or parts of australia that genuinely desperately NEED desalination as their LAST RESORT would be knowing that victoria is the biggest water consumer per capita in aust & up there with the world..

and it is only being done out of laziness by the govts not wanting to tell the majority of our society to be accountable for its actions..

one of [brumby's]early quotes "then we can go back to having unrestricted water usage"

  • i used to think desal plants were great. of course i only heard 1 side of the story. Ive been given an assignment to make a persuadsive oral speech on desal and i was orginally gonna support it. After reading into the topic i am STRONGLY against this. I'm gonna go help protest against it.

  • The more people learn the truth behind the construction, and running, of this desal plant the more I believe people will oppose it going ahead.

Don't just sit back and believe the propaganda the Govt feeds you, as I recon you will be shocked by the truth.

  • You frigging protesters are always winging, and half of you are from the city, running from the law I bet, hehehe. If a dam was being built you be protesting agaist that. I say build the desal plant and build new dams:-)

  • No need for a desalination plant. We can ship you water by sailing ship from Tasmania. Recycling effluent from our new pulp mill, which will be almost all water and contain less contaminates than recycled water from Werribee sewerage plant is the answer!

  • Don't you have a dying Liberal party function to go to or something? Go have a surf in the beautiful Victorian ocean right here at Kilcunda to clear your head and cheer up a bit.

  • ... you do not have to distroy the site ... you just have to use a different technology - like Solar-desalination or tidal generators ( wave action ) and everything will be fine - the only problem - it takes investment and action NOW --- There are solutions !!!

  • It is amazing to me that energy intensive desalination is seen by the government as a solution to reduced rainfall due to climate change, rather than a contributing factor. What a great location--pristine coastline (yes they are wind turbines, but at least that's sustainable), flood planes AND marine park . . . if ever there was an inappropriate "solution" to a problem, this is it.

  • It is so sad that a pristine coastal environment is to be ruined, as well as the contribution the plant will play in global warming, the tonnes of waste that is will produce each day

because we can't get off out backsides and install tanks, reduce our water comsumption and accept recycled water.

    SHame, shame shame

Whose buddies are going to benefit fomr the massive infrastructure project..I wonder? I guess there had to be something after Southern Cross Station was built.

  • I would have said "fantastic editing job". You've edited out the wind farm, the hobbie farms and all the cliff top holiday houses from San remo to Kilcunda

  • I didn't edit out anything hydrosca. The video focusses on the site and the sea. What's your point? Do you think it is a good idea to put a desal plant on this site?

  • No I,m not in favour. But I'd like to see a balanced veiw from the anti desal mob. The campaign is full off hypocrits.

  • Great video!
