The paper ears are both so funny and cute X3 As for the dots on the face if you wanted that real Na'Vi affect why not try glow in the dark make up? This way when you're in the dark or the light hits in such a way they glow like in the movie.

But it looked better the way they did it. I don't know about you but I would prefer to see the CGI characters the way they were than see people running around like this. And then what about the animals? they're not real. and i don't think any amount of makeup and makeshift materials could make a real horse into one of those alien things. superimposing real things onto fake things all the time looks, well, fake. i think its better to be consistent.

@kdono15 Their body proportions weren't that much different than human body proprotions. All they'd have to do is make them look bigger, which is easy. And CGI enhance the makeup just like they do for Voldemort in HP. Making the characters 100% cgi served no other purpose than for Cameron to get off. It didn't serve the story.

@Pwells1 Uhm Voldemort is one character, so I'm sure that enhancing him is no sweat. I'm no movie maker but I'm sure that it would have cost a hell of a lot more than its worth to hire makeup artists for whole 'tribes' of people, and then enhance them digitally anyway. Plus the background was all CGI - obviously because it was meant to be original - so why superimpose real people onto a fake background when you can do it all in one hit? just saying.

@kdono15 It would be cheaper than all the CGI they did, actually. Also, the background was excessively CGI too and sets and real life locations, models, etc could have been used for a lot of that movie. And it would have looked less like a cartoon then too.

@Pwells1 Actually there is quite a difference between Na'Vi body proportions vs. human. They of course have the same basic structure of legs, arms, etc. but everything was elongated. Their torso's were much longer with some having very broad upper bodies and tiny waists, varying between the genders. The actual Na'Vi vs. the sky people also only had 4 fingers, not sure about the feet atm. To acquire that kind of affect on everyone would have still meant a lot of cg work and make up.

@Pwells1 As for comparing to the affects they did on Voldemort there is no comparison. Voldemort once being a human character was only minorly warped but his actual body shape was that of a human's. If you watch the making of either Avatar or Harry Potter you would see how they did the two & why they chose those methods. The Na'Vi were in no way 100% CGI but much of that helped to enhance it. Cameron's team did an amazing job of combining CGI with real features & taking it to a new level.
