Amazing how we all welcome the government taking away our freedom as long as they say its for "safety reasons".

You can NOT increase government funded programs without increasing our debt and taxes. The government money comes from us, THE TAX PAYER. Any money used by the government comes from us. THINK ABOUT IT PEOPLE.

I can't even afford health care for myself, why should I be required to get it for myself and help everyone else get it to?!

The plan will pass, and republicans would be standing last in line to get their insurance....they must pay little something for their racist war crimes, oil corruption dealings, ignoring a drowning state, collapsing the entire world economy...they should be happy they're not in jail

There is some refreshing commentary on this page people. As far as for those who govern and find themselves against reform, keep in mind that most of them were not for Medicare, and their predecessors who thought just like them weren't for Social Security either. I wonder how people will view this entire scenario 20 years from now.

there is some really negative energy happening in this country right now. Outstanding commentary K! Where were these people when gas was 50% higher than it is now? Where were they when our privacy was being subjected to all sorts of nonsense? 8 years of nothing but fear and imminent attacks on our soil. No Bin Forgotten, no vindication for our fallen on 09-11-2001, and now they've bamboozled their sheep into believing in plug pilling death squads, and birth certificates from a place that wasn't an independent nation in 1961? He addressed the three, or four lies that are being spread around the internet and TV. 1) Death Panels, 2) Illegal get covered, 3) increases debt, 4) cost, 5) taxes, 6) forced on gov plan 7) Public Option not gov plan.

Those needed to be addressed and other than that, it was a normal speech.

Great speech by Obama. He called the republicans out for their lies and deceit. This was obviously a well thought out strategy, and demonstrates what the republican already know --showing backbone and feistiness carries sway with the American public. Americans respect someone who can't be rolled over.

It's now important that the democrats fight fire with fire. A health care war room is needed, since you know the republicans are still going to attempt all manners of nasty stuff.
