  • He's chasing storms in Heaven now. Proper tribute, top class.I have empathy for Eric, I've been there too. I know this post is four years after the fact but my sympathies to his family and friends

  • I had no idea that Eric had passed away! My gosh, he was young. I graduated in 1978. So sorry for your loss. Please accept my deepest condolences.

    *StormSpinner1* in Texas

  • it was his chase pics that got me off my ass and out taking stills of storms

  • Great guy Eric. R.I.P

  • That was so nice of you to create a video for your friend. May he R.I.P.

  • By the way at 5:27 the clouds are so awesome. They are called like mammatus clouds or something like that. Signals a possible tornado. I wonder if he saw the Greensburg tornado of May 2007. That was quite a storm.

Anyways, my heart and prayers go out to him and his family and friends. He enjoyed life and had everything going for him, but sometimes life is cut short and we have 2 accept the fact that the ones we love are gone no matter how hard it is.

  • Awesome tornado pics. Hopefully no one was hurt. I never wanna get caught in one. Thats for sure. Its mother nature at full force. Sometimes she can be quite a bitch.

Eric took amazing pictures. A lot better than I have taken of anything. Half the time my finger is in the lens or I take a picture of the ground instead. Yet some pics don't turn out bad. Lol there.

Thats so sad that a life was taken at such a young age with so much more that was still ahead of him.

  • very sad... I never knew him, but after viewing his photos and then reading about his tragedy, I was touched. My prayers go out to his family and friends and may God give them strength to endure.

  • i vaguely remember talking to eric a few times way back in the day, but i gotta say, he's one hell of a guy and a damn good photographer. you can see how much passion the guy had for severe weather. rip bud. ill be sure to make every chase for you. still, just a few days after the one year mark, you're still missed.

  • Can't believe it's been a year already, such a huge loss to the chaser community.

God Speed Eric We miss you and are praying for your family

  • Man...was this guy a master of storm photography or what...those shots at Mulvane are some of m favorites of all time from ANY photographer....

Seeing this just gives me more drive to get out to the plains are do this stuff...thanks Eric for being a damn good inspiration....

    Very nice work Amos....

  • Hello peoople my name is eric nguyen i am 14 year old. Thats pretty cool i have the exact same name as someone.

  • Eric will be missed by all.I never did get to meet him,but i know from all of the storm chasers that knew him that Eric was a caring soul, who loved being in the right place at the right time and the plains will never be the same.I'm proud to know that one of these days,i will be in a location that was graced by eric's presence during a chase.

  • I think Eric would be pleased...

The plains will not be the same without his caring eye.....

  • Never met the guy, but it sounds like he was a great person to know, and a great stormchaser, too.

  • I think all storm chasers rock

  • How did he pass? He was so very gifted. A terrible loss! I'm so sorry.

  • Well done.

You'll catch up with him down the road. Joel in Tucson

  • Without BSing you at all, I genuinely believe that we leave tracks in the universe in some sense. The bonds we form burn trails through a darkness. And those tracks that seem to disappear around us, or behind us, are in some larger picture not half as vanished as we think. You'll meet again, or I'll eat my hat (which is a very tough Scottish one, so please don't make me do it!),Take Care, Mark S (Undegrad Fiction, Fall 2006) .

  • I know this must be a very hard time for you, and my thoughts are with you. When we lose someone close, it's as if someone reaches in and tears out a chunk of us. For a while the wind shrieks clean through that hole until its rawest edges begin to heal. Give it time. I lost my father when I was eleven years old, and it was like the planets all fell from the sky.

  • I am so sorry! I never met Eric of course, but he sounds like he was a truly amazing person, as well as a passionate and expert stormchaser, and a remarkable weather photographer. It's something that I always fancied doing, as I used to watch all the amazing tornado programmes in the UK, believe it or not, and was pretty taken by the humor (and courage) of those who did it.

  • Hi A, Tried to send this to your inbox, but I think you had locks on. Thus, I hope you pardon me if I have to break this over more than one comment. I was so sorry to hear about the loss of your friend, and under such tragic circumstances. I thought I had spotted you around a couple of times on campus, but I had no concept of the reason why at the time. It was actually John Tait that let me know (roughly) what happened, as I chanced to mention to him that I spotted you at one of the readings.

  • A fitting tribute.

  • thanks, Scott
