The thing about all the words we use to discuss race, including "mixed" and "black" (and "race"!) is that none of them have any fixed scientific basis, they are all fluid, subjective concepts. Social constructs. Which means there is no one correct answer to what any of those words mean. We can't talk effectively about race without understanding & respecting that many people find many different shades of meaning in these words, and each is equally "real".

yeah, in theory that should be possible, but in our american reality we can only transcend race after we remove all the concrete effects of its existence as a social construct, particularly in the form of historical and ongoing institutional racism.. attempting to transcend race without recognizing that as the first step generally requires entering a state of denial and willful obliviousness that can only achieved through the magic of white privilege :)

The difficult part of that is whites are both helped but ultimately oppressed by White Privilege. To paraphrase Tim Wise Whites are helped by inherited privilege in the short run but by not recognizing that the power structure uses race to maintain the status quo for it's own economic interests it prevents those poor whites from forming a class, with it's own shared inherent interests, with other oppressed minorities. For me it's getting past race to see the common interests to form a class.
