  • WHEN I WAS 10, I THOUGHT LANZA WAS THE MOST SUPERB TENOR I WOULD EVER HEAR--I AM 73 AND MORE CONVINCED THAN EVER. ONLY HIS VOICE CAN SPEAK FOR HIM. WORDS FAIL.

  • A voice so powerful that it's almost frightening!

  • Bless you for this glorious posting. Mario Lanza the world's greatest tenor. His versatility in texture of tone unique.

  • Perfect pitch perfected in this Kern/Hammerstein masterpiece. It is as valuable to me today as it was when I listened to it in in forties as a child growing up on the streets in Bronx. Irregardless who sings it it resonates, especially when I sing it to my self and find those sounds. Genius manifest in music!

  • @bfbdesk THIS MELODY HAUNTS ME FOR MONTHS AT A TIME-- IT IS AS THOUGH IT HAS LIFE.

  • The American Caruso ! does not get any better than this ! His voice was a God given voice..God Bless You Mario !

  • unforgettable, sheer beauty, what a voice, splendid indeed

  • Mario Lanza, the greatest opera singer in the world, no one to touch him, todays so called opera singers cant hold a candle, such passion with a beautiful song from the pen of composer Jerome Kern, and lyricis Oscar Hammerstain 2nd, both writers also penned Showboat.

  • pure magic, pure soul, pure joy, mario mario we love you

  • where i will find a tenor like Mario Lanza singing to me all these marvelous melodies ???? where , in our crazy , hard times , where nothing remained to believe and no place to make dreams .....??

  • PERFECTION....if ever this existed it's here....THANK you so much for posting this magnificent video

  • Simply beautiful. His voice grasps all genres and turns whichever song or aria he sings into a hymn of glory. Lovely words you wrote about this one.

  • I wish I could find an album of all the variations of this song from "The Saddest Music in the World."

  • Wow! Mario's vocals are stellar. I've only heard Frank Sinatra sing this before, and he doesn't sing it straight; he messes with this beautiful tune. Nobody can write a gorgeous song like Jerome Kern.

  • Many thanks, Khankonchak, for posting these Lanza gems. Your accompanying notes are informed and interesting. Best Wishes.

  • Mario at his best at recorder studio Hollywood for the Coca Cola radio show.Later PUT ON LP for RCA Red Seal.

  • I lvoe this song!

  • That I know.. :-)

  • Thank you for this music and info!

  • One of my favourite Mario Lanza recordings...
