I Think this car is so slow that it's more fun than slow cars that are faster than this because it's so funny just to see how slow it goes. Like I think this would be more fun than a Honda Civic, because a Honda Civic isn't hilarious. This is. If I drove this I'd be laughing with how slow it is, not annoyed at how slow it is.

yea there was a problem with this car i gutted the cat on mine mad a difference i also rev mine to about 5200 rpm before shifts it'll take it trust me i've been doing it for 3 years to it still don't use a drop of oil no smoke and no motor noise at all

@chinchillawrangler now i own a 86lx with a 5.0... cam, intake, 3.73's, msd ignition... weighs about 2600lbs and is beyond scary fast for a car that light... need some aluminum heads and drag radials and it will be low 12's. as of now is low 13's-mid 13's... this 2.3l got 40mpg and cruised nicely just couldn't get up to speed... i wouldn't mind getting another to just cruise in or to turbo :].. and the 289ci, 302 ci were known as the best built engines...

ya...u should really look at how tis guy aint shiftin right. have you ever heard of a 4banger redlining at 4 1/2? not only that i think this same dude has a video of him shifting right and a turbo on it and he chirps secong gear. look up the car before you bash anything. i learned that with honda's.

my 2.3 5 speed is faster than that and i bumped the timeing a little over stock put e3 spark plugs cut off the cats and put a hi flow muffler then you will be able to tell a hp bump but i recommend putting a turdo coupe or svo mustang engine in it mine only cost $250 and i tore it down and putting all new barrings and gaskets on and port and polished heads and re ringed pistons. total cost $300-320... have any questions just ask?

My best 0-60 in my 2.3 1989 Mustang with the manual was 12 seconds. Add 3-5 seconds for the automatic. It's really that slow.

331 stang & 2.3T ranger. U need to turbo that thing and add some 3.73s!!, A stock 88 Ford 2.3 TurboCoupe was rated 190hp and it actually it made 220hp and a stock 5.0 made 215hp to 220hp. they are slow but the 2.3l is as tough as nails. mine stock had 294k mi and it ran great before I built it 4 boost. anything over 7 psi of boost will kill a n.a 2.3l.

Yea, the 2.3L was never a good engine "stock" You can do a turbo upgrade with an external wastegate and put a little bit of pep in her. But even with a turbo it barely matches up with the stock 5.0HO motor put in the gt's and some lx's. If I were you, I would take a grand and buy a complete 5.0 remanufactured engine.

I've owned several mustangs (still have 3 at the moment), anyway 2 of my past 'stangs were 2.3L cars and...they just aren't fast! They look and handle nice, but are underpowered to say the least. Sorry man, I'm sure it looks nice though!

it's a 5 speed. timing was off 10 degrees and both cats were horribly clogged... engine has been beat to shit by the previous owner so it burns a little oil and isn't in anywhere near good shape.

Is it in overdrive? I've found that performance is horrible if it's in the standard drive position. Of course, if you have a manual, then thats standard. The acceleration on these is not good!!!
