hi there, thanks for your comments. more videos are on the way in the next few weeks. in the meantime, check out the orbisringflash group on flickr if you'd like to see what the orbis™ can do.
I don't own one of these, but I disagree that there's "nothing special" about the lighting. The shots in this video demonstrate significant improvement over what you'd get from using your on-camera strobe, for example, as the light is more diffused and shadows are much less pronounced. Seems to do pretty well for macro.
@bionictulip Yes, the ringflash is a very effective tool for wiping away the essence of 3-dimensionality, namely shadows. Why any photog would want to completely get rid of that which actually makes for a beautiful image is still a mystery to me, but I am open for enlightenment.
@famousPhotog I think it is depend on situation and what kind of photos do you after....you cant really say either shadowless picture or 3 dimension photos is bad....what you after is matter I think
The camera is a single lens reflex which means that you look through the lens, the ring flash being put over the lens has no effect on viewing. If the camera was a Leica rangefinder type of camera then the ring flash would block your vision.
What's the music in the video?

@DoctorInferno It's called "Whatever Happened To You? (Instrumental)" by Mike Schmid, licenced from Triplescoopmusic

Hope that helps.
