  • Epiphone since 2008 have been makeing there own version of the 57 Classic and Classic Plus pickups and makeing there own electronics useing the very best materials. Most of you make comments with out doing any kind of research. I suggest you start.

  • Part-2 than the luthiers at Gibson. And its because of ex Gibson Master luthier michael voltz who was Gibsons top luthier for 18 years befor moving to Epiphone China in 2001. Epiphone China's factory is state of the art. And opened in 2002.

  • No not defensive. Just tired of Gibson fan boys bashing a guitar company thats responsible for the invention of the very first electric guitar in 1930 and many other inventions that involves the electric guitar. The chinese are just as good even better

  • The Elctronics in Epiphones are now Epiphone made and are all metal from switch's to pots. The pots are full 1 inch 500k. Epiphone are most certainly top professional quality. And its because of Ex Gibson master luthier michael Voltzs who's with Epiphone.

  • @EPI6fingers

Trust me man, my buddy's dad works for Epiphone and he has nearly every single kind as a collector. After playing them, there are definitely a few that sound amazing, but none feel like Gibsons, old or new.

  • @EPI6fingers

Dude you seem pretty defensive about the whole Epiphone/Gibson thing.

You can't really convince anyone either way. My $800 Gibson sounds better than any Epiphone I have heard (And I have heard and played dozens and dozens).

Epiphone does make high quality equipment, but to say that they are far better than Gibson and that Gibson's quality is in the shitter is just ignorant and you make yourself look misinformed. It's personal preference not name brand that matters.

  • Have any of you played a 2010Epiphone les paul custom or a 2010 Epiphone G400 standard 62 Sg. Or the 2011 Epiphone limited Edition 50th Anniversary 1961 Reissues i suggest you read up on these Epiphones befor you do Any more commenting. Google the info.

  • Your a professional luthier and your saying todays Gibson guitars are better than Epiphone? Theres alot of guitarist that will Argue that one. Gibsons quality and quality control have been in the shitter for years. Epiphones quality is on top.

  • @EPI6fingers No, I'm not saying that. Sorry if I misspoke. The set neck Epi's are made in Japan in the same factory that high end Ibanez are made. I watching a factory tour & saw set neck Epi's on racks next to Ibanez Jems. They improved the stock pick ups & electronics in them as well. Buy a Epi set neck & have a fret dress, a new nut cut & add your favorite pickups and you will have a nice guitar. The Elitist's are quite good as well.

  • Gibson hasnt been a higher breed of anything for years. Ill keep my Epi's thank you.

  • He says tone as he's turning the volume knob and vice versa

  • Great vid, but they left out the part where Gibson adds the $1000 markup at retail.

  • I hated my first guitarteacher for oversimplifying the proces of getting the stringvibration into distorted sound. Then i saw these guys.

  • Thumbs up if you thought "How It's Made Guy's Voice"

  • Part 2 and i do mean way under priced for the top professional quality they deliver today. I gig with all 3 and i always have Gibson standard sg players show more intrest in my EPI's than there own Gibson Models. I had one who wanted to trade NO WAY!

  • I have a 2010 Epiphone G-400 Standard 62 sg And (2) Epiphones Limited Edition 50th Anniversary 1961 sg Reissues. The are the very best in top professional quality. Todays Epiphones only down fall there way under priced for the top quality they deliver.

  • @EPI6fingers

Gibson owns Epiphone, and the Gibsons by far and large are a higher breed and quality of instrument. I have owned six various epiphones from semi-hollows to acoustics to solidbody electrics, and even if you swap out the pickups to match the Gibson, there is still a HUGE difference in feel, even if you can somehow get the tone right.

  • The last Gibson I bought was a 1981 Explorer E2. I haven't played anything from Gibson since that captured my interest or thought was worth the money.

  • They left out the part where you have to take your $2,500 - $5,000 guitar to a luthier to get the bad fretwork, nut, saddles worked out. If these were $500 guitars, I could forgive them. I'm amazed that people pay that much money for them. Fenders cost half as much & play pretty damn good out of box. I've been a Luthier for 30yrs now. I get to see these guitars on a regular basis.

  • @MrUltraworld

Ya man I hear you on that. I picked up the Gibson Les Paul Studio 50's Tribute with Humbuckers for $885, and I wouldn't spend any more than that. I also picked up a Fender Standard Tele for like $500 and both feel equally good, but completely different in tone and feel.

Fender is far easier on the wallet, but as a pro luthier you can't deny the quality difference. Best tone? The LP hands down. Best Value? Definitely the Tele.

  • @OnyxWolf17 They are such different guitars. But Tele's are indestructible. It's simplicity is part of it's charm. I notice that Fender's come through very consistent, they all feel very similar. Gibson seems to be all over the place. Then put much more hand labor into their guitars than many other companies do. I always suggest a nice used Les Paul. Many times the best playing LP in a shop is the studio, just doesn't make sense sometimes. I have a warm spot for Tele's too

  • @MrUltraworld

My brother and I got the same Studio 50's and they are pretty much identical. I have seen a few bad ones though. Luckily here in Vancouver we have some wicked Luthiers.

I love my Les Paul to pieces, but out of my four electrics, the Tele and the Studio are the ones I pick up most often.

  • 'we have the sound of rock and roll' *starts playing techno/pop

  • Gibon is so overpriced!

  • that's amazing!!

  • I think its funny that people forget when you buy a gibson, your buying it for tone, quality and even though its the same thing as qualitly craftmenship, once you buy a gibson, even if you buy or sell all but one, it'll be the bestfriend you picked out and care for, the other is that its a piece of equipment that will last a lifetime

  • 1:04 haha, pluged into a fender speaker!

  • What the fuck is this shit on the right side : Cremation and snail zombies ?? and... corset crunchers....

C´mon, i´m here to check great guitars!

  • What the fuck is this shit on the right side : Cremation and snail zombies ??

C´mon, i´m here to check guitars!!!!

  • What the fuck is this shit on the left side : Cremation and snail zombies.

C´mon man, i´m here to check guitars!!!!

  • At Zeppelin below : true that may be, it's also oppinion and preference. I am buying a fender over a Gibson

  • 66 persons plays Warrior instruments ! :-)

  • "you hear the sound of rock'n roll"

  • @1:04 fender amplifier.

  • @JedLuna lmao wow

  • Ive had my Gibson SG for 11 years now, its great! :)

  • every gutiar is great, guitarrist make the difference

  • @zeppelin0127 i totally agree with you : )

  • FRAMUS GUITARS ARE THE BEST!

  • this guitars are overpriced, there are many more moderns guitars with more features and quality in market...

  • My first guitar was a mahogany acoustic parlor sized guitar. It had the most intimate tone. The older the strings got the more intimate it got. Then my first real electric was a mahogany neck-through-body Gibson Melody Maker. Just one pick-up. I played it through a Watkins Mark IV Copicat tape echo unit into a Fender Band Master. At the time all of this stuff was called 'old equipment'. People had no idea in 1978 that this equipment would be called vintage and cost thousands. Paid $200 for it.

  • cool!

now show how fenders are made!

  • dream job

  • Bridge holds the strings in place? since when?

  • Guys chill the fuck out :L comparing a Gibson to a Fender is like comparing a table and a chair. They both serve different purposes. Whatever than stainless china guy is saying about "my strat sounding great with metal" I am a strat man myself, I have 2 and the single coils just aren't up to the high distortion. And likewise the gibson isn't sweet enough to supply the classic eric clapton tone etc. They're each meant for different styles of music!

  • James hetfield has the best Gibson

  • @metal4life961 retard he plays almost exclusively esp :L has since the late 80s

  • I would love this job. hell, if i work there, im taking one home..mabye 2..or 3..nah 4. lol idk. they should give the workers a gibson if they know how to play guitar. or just for display.

  • @pudding231 Had a friend who worked there, twice a year they will sell you a guitar at cost.

  • @nickslespaul at cost? hmm no im good. wel, it depends how much. They should get a discount for whoever works there.

  • been looking at les paul traditionals in the uk, there is a shop doing it for me at £1399 after ive talked them down a bit, but the only one they hav is the one on display and one of the knobs are loose, the guy said he'd fix the knob tho bt cant order a new 1 in without cost. Im not sure if i should go for it, or just pay the extra £200 knowing id get a brand spanking new one thats never been out the box/touched. Im thinking of payin the extra 200 but would like a few opinions? thank you.

  • I've heard so many people say that their LP never stays in tune and dumb stuff like that, I've had my '57 reissue Custom for 8 years and it is never out of tune only ever need to make slight adjustments EVER. I think if you learn how to properly string one the strings won't slip on the tuning peg EVER, think before you type people. Thanks Les for everything. R.I.P.

  • we thank Les Paul for changing the music in our life.. youll be miss

  • Too bad Gibson's quality control sucks :[

  • @bgarza18 How do you know? Do you own one? I have two Les Pauls, and they are both great guitars. I haven't had a problem with Gibson in the 15 years I've been playing them.

  • @murfdog19 Of course, I own one. I've also played several in shops and have many friends who let me play their Gibsons. The quality control has been iffy. Binding problems, tuning problems (c'mon, Gibson, locking tuners, for goodness' sake), that kind of stuff. Even my friend's Supreme won't stay in tune for crap. Sounds great, though.

  • @bgarza18 You will get that with any company though. A friend of mine bought a Custom Shop '57 Strat, and it had all kinds of trouble. He sent it back, and they sent him a new one. My studio engineer bought a "10 Top" PRS that had crazy electronic issues. He had to have the input jack replaced. Those were both $3000 plus guitars.

  • The word "best" is very subjective, that's why I don't ever use it.

  • lol 1:00, Fender amp !

  • FENDER'S ARE THE BEST!

  • It only took 2 mins, im building that tomorrow

  • wow i gotta get one of those peg-winders!!!!

  • @wooke1906 They have one on the ernie ball website, it's called the PowerPeg

  • fender amp!!!

  • Yeah, I play a Les Paul. You gotta love those humbucker pickups--the sound of Rock'n Roll.

  • That's freaking awesome 5/5 stars

  • @IcyFreshZuko Nah that's like... solos with 9001 effects

  • Rock and roll is techno? wat

  • i can't believe how many thumbs up i've got. i'm so happy :)

  • They forget to add the part where they overprice the living fuck out of the guitar.

  • @RandomStevie they'd only be overpriced if people didn't buy them.

  • @visavis917 nah, actually gibson is overpriced, the guitars are quite good but the price is higher than their real value.

  • Comment removed

  • @RandomStevie You forgot that they build them all by hand.

  • @RandomStevie handmade is that part that you are talking about, how about the gold parts or maybe the very rare and expensive wood that some environmentalists are trying to make them more expensive to be used or maybe the art that is being used by folks who made them, also just in case you dont know united states taxes alot for those woods

  • @217morteza A. Every Fender that is over 500 dollars is also handmade. Epiphones cost well into the 1000s and are machine-manufactured. The guitar in the video had precisely 0 gold parts, like most Les Pauls. I don't know about you, but I'm fairly sure that if I go into the woods behind my house, I could find several Mahogany trees, and I live in Michigan. And art? Also, they go to the Amazon and cut down those trees. That's why the "environmentalists" pitch a bitch. Read before you spew idiocy.

  • Wow!

  • C'est vraiment interessant de pouvoir voir les mystere de cette marque !

  • Can i try a sample...

  • Anybody notice they describe a single coil pickup in the explanation?

  • 0:39 try SEVERAL thousand hehe

  • I'm getting the Gibson Les Paul Traditional :D !!!! can't wait!!!!

  • x']

  • gibson may produce some ok guitars, but thier basses are nothing but pieces of shit!!!!!!!!!

  • @true2u12 Gibsons suck? Compared to what? I'll take a solid body, and Humbuckers over a shifty bolt on peice of Strat any day! Gibson is an icon!

  • @Gilla1ness I like Gibsons, but competing with the Stratocaster is tough. You can't deny that it's a quality classic w/ a great sound.

  • @Explosiveelm It's all about what kind of sound you're looking for, and when it comes right down to it I can get whatever sound I want out of a high end Gibson. All the Strats I've played had shifty necks, and lacked the warmth that I crave. To each his own.

    ~1NESS~

  • 0:19 Genious of the week

  • @TheShyTeds LOL genius**? no hate, found it funny :P

  • @TheShyTeds genius?

  • So wheres the part of the process where they put the suck into the gibson?

  • @rickylj the same part where they make the bodies overseas

  • 1:03 YOU CALL THAT WOCK AND WOLL?

  • id love to work with gibsons all day :)

  • PRS 57 08 Possibly one of the Best?

  • Oh man that fatass is fuckin' stupid.

  • I cringed when he just pounded the tune-o-matic pins in ._.

  • @paultaters me too

  • Gibson are overpriced.

  • @Jackiesstash08 Maybe where you live, but for the sound you get out of a beauty they name a Les Paul, its worth it.

  • @GuitarzMyThing don't get me wrong i do love them though!

  • The animation video showing a signal path from the guitar's pick-up traveling to the amp in a Les Paul is wrong in this video...

The output is actually wired to the three way switch and each pick-up is wired to a side on the three way switch...I mod guitars and this is how the gibson LP is wired.

  • GIBSON'S ARE THE BEST!

  • @laser74hobby well they were...their quality has declined... don't get me wrong i love les paul's and several other gibsons (the declining quality makes it that much more special when you find your grail) but the PRS 513 is still my front runner in my favorite guitar models

  • @laser74hobby I agree to that! Les Pauls, SG's, Firebirds and Darkfire's. What more can you ask for?

  • @wahinesurfergirl Explorer's xD

  • @gurraSkillzz Yeah, that too.

  • @laser74hobby Ibanez are amazing too =)

  • @laser74hobby Bullshit.

  • @6Mega6Man6 Then what is?

  • @torse100 Paul Reed Smith

  • @6Mega6Man6 I think Gibson and ESP LTD are

  • @torse100 I love ESPs, but there are better guitars available

  • @laser74hobby you sound like a 10-year old by saying that

  • @laser74hobby More like 5th best Fender, PRS, Gretsch, and Rickenbacker are all way better than Gibson

  • @StainIessChina i have played on all of those and they most certainly are not, it is all just a reference of style, gibsons are made for rock and metal, fenders for bluesy stuff, prs alternative/classic rock, gretsch classic rock, and the ricken backer is the only one that is somewhat better but not even that often they are

  • @manbearpig937 That's not true you can play any style on any guitar I play metal and rock on my Fender's all the time and they do it way better than my Gibson and everyone knows Gibson's have been garbage ever since the current owner's have taken over because they know nothing about making or playing guitar so there's no innovation it's just mass-produced over-priced generic trash, now vintage Gibson's are another story but that's not what this vid is talking about

  • @manbearpig937 Also, if you wanna talk about styles Gibson electrics were designed for jazz and blues specifically

  • @StainIessChina i can understand that they were made for blues because they do that pretty well but now theyre just for rock n roll

  • @manbearpig937 Well I still feel that newer Gibson's don't nearly live up to their reputations, It's really sad, because I used to be an SG man and I still love them, but I switched to a Strat because the newer ones are so much better quality than the newer SGs, and based on the one's I've played the only one of those brands that aren't completely versatile are rickenbackers, they can do pop and psychedelic, and that's about it, but the rest are all pretty well-rounded.

  • @laser74hobby Price does not equate to quality.

  • @stickmanbrains yeah, most people who say gibson are the best say it cuz they don't know other things, gibsons are ok, but there are brands like prs, bernie rico jr,fodera, conklin guitars and many other brands that can match or even overpass gibson quality, plus, many of those brands have better prices than gibson, still i would kill for the buckethead signature gibson, but since then i'll stick to my 400 dollar rg :D

  • @rod3067 Exactly, and really you're just paying for brand name when it comes to Gibson. Because Gibson has pretty much pee'd it's brand name on every medium of guitar marketing. (Guitar Hero, for example.)

I myself am in love with Michael Kelly and Ibanez. Michael Kelly has Korean made guitars that are equivalent to Gibson quality, and *gasp* can be bought for under a grand. Too bad they aren't as well known. Ibanez has always been sweet, very consistent in pricing and quality. Can't go wrong.

  • @rod3067 actually i find that epiphone les pauls play much better than its more expensive counterpart. Like you said gibson is just a brand name

  • @dcp10200 yeah, i mean, th only thing worng with gibsons is their prices, higher than their real value.

  • I don't think that any guitar is overpriced. I think that people buy a guitar because it sounds nice and they like the feel. I like the weight and shape of a les paul and its sound. It may cost more than some other guitars to get one, but I would be willing to pay for that. It's consumer demand.

  • I want that string winder!

  • Anybody else notice that they animated the les paul playing through a fender amp.

  • @codmod812 Because Fender once created ONLY amps and no guitars, and Gibson amps are lame

  • I won't to work there ;]

  • so they make a guitar like any other company, not to mention their neck scales and body sizes are SMALLER than the normal guitar, then they sell them for 5000?

  • @itsmarshmallowz yeah but you can only bolt-on neck! not to say bolt on is bad but personally set necks and neck-thrus get better tone and much more sustain that and its the playability of it as well.

  • @IsolationInstigation

You obviously don't own a Gibson

And how on earth are Explorers/Flying V's/Thunderbirds Boring?

  • Gibson is so freakin heavy. I got the supreme for my 13th birthday from my uncle and i couldn't carry it around for more than five minutes..I had it sold for $300 at a pawnshop. Im sticking to fender.. :(

  • Lol Gibson. ESP, Tanglewood and Schecter are better IMO

  • @KrossPoison1 as the owner of a schecter, ESP Custom Shop and Gibson, My gibson competes w. my ESP on playability. I won't disagree that my custom shop has better parts (cuz the fucking thing was made for me!) But ESP doesnt invent anything! they copy everything from every major guitar brand slap EMG's on it & because its made by Japs its loads cheaper. The finish on Schecters piss me off cuz they completley seal the wood = less natural resonation = less tone.

  • @OdeToBlood24 Yeah but they don't have the Jonas Brothers written all over them. That's the main thing.

  • @KrossPoison1 Who gives a fuck who plays gibson there are pussies that play every guitar brand. Just fucking ignore it & go on w. your buisness. Don't let sum fucking panzy ass boy band ruin your image on a good guitar brand, and most importantly and American one! I like supporting american companies as long as they produce good shit.

  • @OdeToBlood24 I genuinly don't like them that much anyway xD I prefer tanglewood

  • @KrossPoison1 ok well... then that makes more sense rofl XD

  • @KrossPoison1 I would say all of the great guitarists that play Gibson cancel that out though. Jimmy Page, Alex Lifeson, Zakk Wylde, Slash, Brent Hinds and Bill Kehlier from Mastodon, James Hetfield has some Gibsons. Who cares if a crap band use them anyway. You're telling me if Gibson apporached you with a guitar, perfect for you, absolutely flawless, you'd turn it down and say "No sorry. The Jonas Brothers use your brand therefore I can never play them." ?

  • @DeathMagneticX3 No actually, I'd say "No sorry, I have 3 ESPs and 2 tanglewoods which do me more than enough. Thanks though"

  • @KrossPoison1 Well at least you'd say thanks :)

  • @DeathMagneticX3 haha xD

  • Everything is over priced. Gibson Fender I agree

in 1978 I paid $600.00 for my Les Paul Standard with a Hard Shell Case.

Look athe price of Gas now

The sad part Top 40 music is not the same

    Keep playing enjoy

  • Cracks me up these wanabes knocking Gibson for value and price. That's why all the greats play them, collect them and find themselves wanting a lesser guitar, not. The Les Paul is a style, tone mixed with material and craftsmanship. Everything else is a copy attempting to duplicate that same product. If you cant afford one, buy an Epiphone.

  • @IsolationInstigation it's the wood they use and the wood carving that makes it expensive... but not that expensive so yeah you're right they're down right overpriced

  • @limput1 Go to the lumberyard and buy a chunk of wood then build a guitar. Believe me it doesn't have to be any good to show you just how skilled these Luthier's are. It's not just the materials and they cost plenty, it's years of talented dedication to inlay and finishes. Research on tone from the neck, bridge and nut to radius fret work to multiple pickup variations. Gibson offers awesome guitars well under $1000, that are beast. Try again!

  • its marshall brain!

  • gibson=gay

  • the goods r still the guitar they r a classic

  • why on guitars are there two volume switches and two tone switches

  • @TheBobohj Because each humbucker has its own tone and a volume switch.

  • @Norbancs whats a humbucker? haha i like that name

  • 1:37-40, what a perv lol

  • @TheSweRocker lol

  • @TheSweRocker What are you, 10?

  • when the current is amplified and sent into a speaker, we have the sound of rock and roll

    *techno-pop-rock music plays*

  • hey isolationinsignation thanks for posting ur inteligent comment for the wole world to c but u know y gibson are priced so its cuz they r the best guitars ever

  • Liars! My Gibson was crafted with Swiss Gold by angels in the european alps! Not these guys! lol. but i cant wait for my gibson les paul studio to come in!

  • That beat they used when they exlplained the pick-ups is just diisgusting. It sounds like the crap Linkin Park would come up with.

  • Heyyy...it's the guy from How It's Made."

  • I love Gibson. I still remember the day my dad bought me a real US Gibson SG for my 13th birthday. It was a school night but my parents let me stay up all night to play it. 12 Guitars later its still the best one I own. also @isolationInstigation yes they are pretty pricey. But they are well worth every cent.

  • do they have free samples?

  • @frowtime A music shop i worked at got a Les paul neck for free, The manager just got one of the workers a few beers and talked to him for a while, and then he gave him a neck that never made the production line. They use it as a Doorhandel for the shop now.

So yes, i guess they do have free samples.

  • @YWCBAND Ernie Ball sells them. It's called the Ernie Ball PowerPeg and sells for $20

  • fender rules!

  • @adamskizz fuck you

  • @IsolationInstigation Yea definitely! I'd rather a $500 epiphone with duncans in it.

  • @IsolationInstigation calm down

  • @RiffRaff993 You Need To Calm Down You Little Insincere Cunt!

He Was Just Letting everyone know how he feels. And i tend to feel the same way!

The only guitars that deserve to be priced at 9000 dollars are Dean Guitars!

  • @IsolationInstigation agreed with you..:D you know what itd be awesome if guitars were like 100$ :D most!! whats so special :D about them :D and pianos and everything :D

  • @IsolationInstigation ... me thinks thou protesteth too much. ;-)

  • @IsolationInstigation

oooo sorry whats that??? 9 people out of 379,588 agree that gibsons are over priced??? sorry to tell u that considering its made by the gods, its underpriced... o ya and sorry u cant afford one to appreciate the fine craftsman ship of it

  • @IsolationInstigation the 1000-3500 price range is actually really good if you look at price/quality.

it is expensive indeed, but the guitar will last forever.

also , if gibson was really that overpriced, the would have bankrupted ages ago.
