Hey! I see this video has a debate going, I'm on your side GreenHavoc. Truly an aspiring movie and it made me realize that I should stop thinking about doing this - but do this! From Norway to Finland :) Thank you, great video!
This video (especially the family part) is a great display of what happens on the road all the time when you let yourself be free. All those who are thinking about hitch hikinh, short, long, locally or across the world: THUMBS UP AND THUMBS OUT! :D
I absolutely loved your video. I lived in Kumamoto for 7 years and traveled all over Kyushu...this brought back many fond memories for me. I even went to the music raves up near Mt. Aso. (Was that where that was?)
Glad you all liked the video! I highly recommend hitching in Japan! I was in Japan for more than 3 years and this is the best experience I ever had! Still really touches my heart to watch the video.
Great video! You look like a nice guy, it's no surprise you only waited ~7 minutes per ride. In Golden Week 2008 I hitched from Tokyo to Onomichi (Hiroshima-ken) and partway back (to Kyoto). It's incredible, isn't it!? Did u use the expressway system? At the end of this month, I'm gonna hitch from Tokyo to Kyoto to see the autumn leaves! **PEACE**
Natsukashi! Brings back so many memories. On my Golden Week hitchike in 2004, I as well was picked up from a very desolate location, brought to a family resort and given ichiman yen for good luck (which I ended up saving for charity). I also was invited to stay at the inn of the brother of another one of my drivers, whose father served us homemade soba and helped us make our next "destination" signs.
So you're in Beppu. You wouldn't happen to know of an English bloke named Doron perchance?
I am loving this. I spent six months hitching around New Zealand and loved it. I am coming to Kyushu (Sasebo) with the JET program in late July and was curious as to whether hitching was generally accepted there, but apparently, it is. Where in Kyushu are you and why are you in Japan?
is it easy to hitchhike in Japan ? anyone else try before ? so many people tell me it is so difficult to hitchhike in Japan.

@masonev I found hitchhiking pretty easy. Smiling while holding out your thumb helps. Being a single rider helps too.

@iiivideo thanks for your reply, where did you hitchhike in Japan ? :) how long it take average to get pick up.

what is the music from 0.08-0.19? nice ~
masonev 7 months ago
@masonev the song is "Homecoming" by The Teenagers. It's actually a really filthy song when you get to the lyrics, but yes, great opening.

@GreenHavoc thanks for fast respond! :) i'm planning to do hitch hike in Japan in this end of Sept ;)
you are hitchhike in summer ?
masonev 7 months ago
@masonev GREAT! I hope you have a great experience :) I'm back in the US now (NYC) so no more hitch hiking for me.
