  • When is Disney going to give up on AM radio? How many tweens even listen to AM whether HD or not. They'd be better off with FM or online radio. Of course ABC/Disney would end up switching them all to IBOC blasting ESPN radio affiliates if they ever pulled the plug on Radio Disney so it wouldn't help.

  • Interesting video. Didn't know about "dirty" stations/transmitters.

  • I'd be pissed to if they were covering up AJ.

  • I once picked up Radio Disney on AM 600. I think it was from Florida or something. This was about 5 years ago.. AM radio is pretty interesting

  • @motrojam I think I can top that, I actually picked up Radio Disney from California in Washington on 1680 but not only that it was in stereo too!

  • @motrojam i should have probably added that I live in NC. Recently i found it again playing with my 10-band radio.

Here recently, i picked up an FM station clear as a bell from Savannah GA. stereo and all.

  • The local Radio Disney KWDZ 910 here is just as guilty. This is sad! Its worse here though, since it is local.

  • i love that staticy station the staticier the better

  • And its really a shame. KMKI used to sound great just a few years ago broadcasting in CQUAM AM stereo.

I have no idea why Radio Disney is broadcasting in HD. How many kids have one? 5K analog sound and a weaker signal are not worth it.

  • And KMKI also puts a nasty splatter onto KTBB 600 in Tyler starting around the Canton area on I-20.

  • Wow, two doses of interference. The high pitch hiss is from HD and the over splatter is what you say, a dirty transmitter.

  • Yeah, KLBJ *used* to be listenable here in N. Tx, but not now with IBOC from 570 KLIF and the splatter from 620 KMKI.

  • 590 KLBJ? That's Alex Jones's frequency, right?

  • Yeah, on Sunday afternoons I think. He just happens to be on when I make a weekend trip over to friends and I thought I would catch KMKI AM 620 'in the act' splattering and radiating IBOC hash all over the place ....

  • What may be the problem here? Line level into the transmitter (a new Nautel transmitter installed a few years back), an incorrectly set compressor level into the transmitter, inexpereinced technical personnel who didn't perform NRSC Bandwidth testing, or maybe has happened or they did and something that has changed modulation characteristics since then.

In any case, AM 620 KMKI is 'dirty' to use a slang term.
