09/09/11 WHERE IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY COULD YOU FIND A SINGER WHO HOLDS TRUE TO THE MELODY AND LYRICS EXACTLY THE WAY THEY WERE WRITTEN. DINAH HAS THE VOICE OF AN ANGEL, AND SHE IS PROBABLY SINGING UP ABOVE FOR ALL THE HEAVENLY SPIRITS. GOD REST YOUR SOUL. roselli
Well . . . all you drummers out there . . . listen to the tasty brush triplets in the background here . . . I'd bet that the player is Panama Francis . . . same who did the great brushes on "What A Difference A Day Makes" . . . Gary in Arizona . . . courtesy of Vic561.
5/10 THIS IS A VOICE THAT POURS LIKE HONEY. a beautiful interpretation of lyrics to make you absolutely believe it applies to you only. what a terrible loss to all of us music lovers. roselli
I there is such a thing as a past life, then that explains it. This song comes from one of my past life to remind me that there was lots of happiness and that the world was a much better and decent place, and then Dinah Washington used to sing this to me and everything was as she sings here: It's Magic! What a wonderful singer this lady was. God Bless Her!
Its really MAGIC, her voice, it has a special color and touch, i cant explain which, lo,, but it has, just a feeling, shes GREAT!!, beneath Billkie Holiday!!!
Her voice is truly one of the best. I actually think she gives Billie Holiday a good run for her money. But both are legends and were incredibly talented.
OK, this is considered more of a pop venture on dinah's part, right? Something that a lot of hard-core jazz people despise?
I love it. It reminds me of something Nat King Cold would have recorded - so smooth and romantic. Only (no offense to Nat King Cole), it doesn't sound cheesy like a lot of Nat King Cole's music does.
Yes, Dinah was more of a mainstream blues and jazz singer. Though I find it hard to believe that "hardcore" Jazz and Blues enthusiasts despise anything Dinah has done. She's legendary.
I've been trying to figure out whose records gave me so much enjoyment when I was 6 years old. I played them again and again but never learned the name of who it was. I think it was Dinah Washington! Thanks for posting!
Thanks so much for this. I grew up with Dinah Washington songs and find myself awash in nostalgia listening to It's Magic and other songs of hers on You Tube.
Famed for the 'teardrop' in her voice, Dinah's talent is there for all singers of today to see. Peerless, effortless, earthy and intense all at the same time. Dinah had an excellent vocal range that was so easy for her. A natural singer's singer with a gift that can't be taught.
She was a true diva. Without a doubt the very best. I am 76 yrs young and had the great pleasure of seeing and hearing this great singer/artist in person many times. I'm a jazz and blues fan, and it's great that, that era is made available today w/ high tech. Too, too cool.

@Honey1931 Absolutely who exept an angel he's able to sing this way?
MISTY637 3 months ago
She is not the queen of the blues. She sings in a bluesy way, but she rarely recorded real "blues" at all. Koko Taylor is the queen of the blues.
