Wen i insert or eject a disc the sisx doesnt just go straight in, it spins in and spins out , but it it doesnt keep spinning, only the once is that normal?? Any help, i would really appreciate it alot :)

Somethings a little wrong, it should be an easy fix if you know what you are doing.

Dont jam it in there, or you may permanently break the drive, have you tried any music cd's? See if that works.

Blu Rays are a little thicker you see.

@gamez101 thanks, i was told by someone that on newer models such as 80G are ment to spin in. although my kilzone disc can get stuck at times im not sure if thats because its a 3D game and might be thicker??

~£££.... it seems every one wnats you to buy something. i suggest just giving a clean, all though before you do this i would suggest trying a C.D in your drive chances are it should read... if it works this means its your blu ray lens... and if and when it work,s if you let the C.D spin for abit, like a good 5 minutes... just leave it playing make a cup of tea.. or something .. then take it out stick your ps3 game in =)~

I have a 40g ps3. I've had it 4 nearly 3years now ..and as of 2weeks ago, the disc isnt spinning or bein read (but the blue light turns on when game is inserted) Everything else is gud. ok note for anyone who doesnt know how a disc drive works regardless if its blu-ray or not the disc spins around the laser reads the code on the disc if the disc didnt spin then the laser would and that would be stupid so now that thats out the way from my research aka me takin my playstation apart and looking up everything i can online ur going to need to replace the blu-ray drive...

Mine doesn't spin because my ps3 has a older Blu ray drive inside it, the drive i have is from a 80GB model which most of them have drives that don't spin the disc's as you insert them . I don't think it really matters though.

If its been less than 12 months, you can get it exchanged because of the warranty.

Theres nothing else you can do?

I have to correct you for the 40gb model:

in Europe,there are 2 40GB-Models: The "CECHG04" and the "CECHH04". The CECHH04 spins the discs, the CECHG04 does NOT spin the discs.

Blu-Ray drives that dont spin, have less life span. The ones that spin last alot longer, it's been proved by Sony and everyday PS3 blu-ray drives break because of the older blu-ray drives.

The first released PS3's had bad blue-ray drives. When you inserted the disc, it went straight in. The newer released PS3's have better blue-ray drives. Now when you insert the disc, it spins as it goes in. This is nothing to worry about, but the newer ones are better. I'm stuck with the old one. By the way, the 60GB system is the best, and always will be. 40 and 80 are terrible.

every single memory thing you buy will have like 5% off what it sais it has, check a normal usb flash drive or a blank cd.

if its 1 GB it will have around 980 Megabytes

if its 60 GB it will have 58 GB an so on.

i've yet to find out why.

Disregard the biased comments below. I own a 60GB PS3 and my bro has the MGS4 PS3 40GB gunmetal edition. I noticed the 60GB's Blu ray drive pulls the disk in without spinning, unlike the 40GB PS3's Blu ray drive which does "spin" the disk as it is pulled in.

Apparently, the two versions of PS3s are using different Blu ray drives, whether one is better or updated or not.
