Trial of a timelord is on my list of episodes to watch. I became a fan during the Eccleston years and whilst I've seen a few classic eps down the years I've never really watched enough so I've selected a number of episodes from each Doctor to watch before series 5 and Trial of a time lord is the ones I'll be watching when I get round to colin's doctor.

Any other classics from the other doctors I should ensure I check out?

I first saw Trial of a Timelord when I was 11. I watched it during Christmas and found it very haunting, particularly the scenes on devastated future Earth (I think 'temporal vertigo' is the right expression).

Great review man. Oh and I have an idea for a blog - maybe you could do a quick rundown of your top ten favourite Who stories overall.

I honestly have to say that Colin Baker is my favorite Doctor. Although my favorite story of his is the Mark of the Rani Trial of a Timelord comes in 2nd. I personally like the idea of the valyard and the darkness in the character of the Doctor himself.

i knew there was one question i should oif asked colin when i was having dinner with him last week re his sacking! ;) (Seriously I DID have dinner with him.) Glad to see you enjoy the story. Trial of a Time Lord came in for a lot of criticism in 1986 even from Doctor Who fans but it is a well made piece of TV despite all of the trouble that was going on behind the scenes. The Ultimate Foe is the best. Apparently Colin Baker was sacked because Michael Grade was friends with his ex-wife although this came from Gary Downie (Doctor Who's AFM and John Nathan-Turner's partner) in an interview with Doctor Who Magazine. Great blog and good review.

TRial of a Timelord is my favourite story from colins era, but my favourite part is when the Doctor Uses magnesium to overgrow the vervoids, and the cliffhanger, when the valeyard shouts, "THE DOCTOR IS NOW ON TRIAL FOR GENOCIDE!" KEEEEZOOOO WEE WOO....
