  • Poignant and beautiful, surely one of the best pop vocal performances of all time.

  • judith durham i keep giving you all the superlatives and you still keep defeating me, i thought i'd heard the most beautiful voice in the world and then you sang this and now i know i have and guess what? IT STILL BELONGS TO YOU, XXX

  • If this song doesn't touch your heart and your soul, you may not have either one :0). Definitely one of the most beautiful, poignant songs ever written, and Judith truly has the voice of an angel.

  • u2bjudge

    THE SEEKERS, UK

  • her voice gives me great comfort makes the world a better place

  • outstanding. purity in its simplist form.i hope they come to nottingham uk.

  • gagesboy64 look at judith durham on this is your life you tube

  • Forgive me but, whatever happened to Judith Durham? I'd love to know. Total infatuation: and yeah, where HAS the bloody time gone.

  • @GANGESBOY64 Alive and well. She had just performed with the original Seekers in Australia earlier this year.

  • What a beautiful voice - forgotten how beautiful our singers sung back yesterday shame on me - but this has cheered me so much- Thank you

  • I first heard this song on an all-music station in 1967 and immediately fell in love with this hauntingly beautiful words and music. And here it is, so many years later I get to hear it again! It seems even more beautiful than I remembered when I was right out of high school. Thank you so much for sharing this!

  • @4everremom what lovely words. doesn't she have such a searching voice. it certainly reaches far inside of me. tingly stuff.

  • Like so many I saw The Seekers on the BBC ewsnight porog (I think that's wha its ws called) in the early 1960's and was captivated by the rest of the group, who, when all is said and done were the instrument for Judith's voice to shine through - as was shown when she went solo....

It's now 2011 and I've just heard this song as a friend wants to sing it and asked me to have a listen. Glad she did, because the song is hauntingly beautiful. Wonder what's happened to the lads in the band?

  • Judith Duham voice will live foerver. She puts GaGa in the trash heap

  • My late father had an ear for special voices - especially female. I remember him picking our Nancy Ames, Catherine McKinnon, Anne Murray, Chrystal Gale and Judith Durham all before the rest of the world caught on. He has been gone since 1982.

I thank him for drawing my attention to all of them - especially Judith and the Seekers. Needless to say, followed them from the start - some of my oldest vinyl albums from the 60's.

  • @rdvqc your father had great taste and intuition. I'm sure the words of this song would be the ones he would want you to remember him by. so dep and poignent.

  • As Durham went on to greater anonymity she regretted many times breaking up the most successful folk pop band ever assembled, only Lennon screwed up worse.

  • @GANNAMEDE if you read her biography you will find she was interested in developing as a singer rather than fame. She had no regrets but celebrated the reunion when the time was appropriate

  • @yopent That tale is for public consumption only, because in interviews even still today when she's asked about it she's clearly contrite. She did manage to have some success in concert afterwards, but was quite surprised and disappointed that her solo act never attracted anywhere near the attention she was convinced it would.

  • @GANNAMEDE Oh no, don't blame John, Pillow talk, you know, Mrs. Lennon, that the one. Orr Yaa !!!!!

  • Judith had a beautiful voice eh?x

  • Anyone who doesn't like this simply doesn't know what real music is!

  • What a lovely clear voice Judith has.

    John

  • it really does not get more poignent than this song, so beautifuuly by Judith.

  • Beautiful song, great voice.....

  • I have to comment again on this song. My God, how incredibly beautiful. I want this played or sung by someone when I die.

  • @johnnyjemimah

Yes, indeed. I've told my wife that this is the song I'd like played at my funeral. Hopefully, that's some time away, of course.

The last lines "Here under that star I'm wanting you to know wherever you are, that I still love you so", sums up exactly what I want to say to my family.

  • @tomaroony Right on! Thank god we still have these great singers with us. Have you ever listened to Judy Collins? One of the greatest.

  • Oh my God....I don't cry easily, but this gets me every time. Judith Durham in a stunning dramatic performance, the ultimate romantic statement (see also 'The Carnival Is Over').

  • Simply a voice to treasure for ever. The world is a better place, even for just for a tiny moment in time, when you hear Judith sing. Thank you for a truly great post.

  • This song brought tears to my eyes. I lost my wife of 28 years--the 28 best years of my life--last November to cancer. I was her caregiver and was with her when she breathed her last breath. She went so peacefully, so quietly, with just a small sigh. My hope and prayer is that she is waiting for me, saving a place beside her for me when it's my time for the Lord to take me home. Sometimes the pain and loneliness are almost more than I can take. I miss her so terribly and I will love her forever.

  • @mrtubesteak2 let me say friend I was married for 34 years and lost my wife through blindness and a sudden blood clot. You feel your world is very empty but time is a great healer. You will get over lonliness but believe me she would want you to overcome her pain and you may move on but you will never forget that great wife and best friend you had in life. Music such as this has helped me immensely - Judith has a great voice. Take care of yourself in the future Rgs Chris

  • @cjm52--Thank you, Chris. The music does help. I've begun to play my guitar and sing with our praise team in church again. Though it still brings tears to my eyes, there is something about singing my prayers to the Lord that has helped me so much. I know that my wife wants me to go on because she told me when she could still talk. I don't know that the ache and loneliness will ever completely go away, but I know that it will become more tolerable as time goes on; that's all I can pray for. Bob

  • @mrtubesteak2 Hi Bob just take it slowly and I am sure you will come through. Your church and friends are very important. The guitar is good as you can practice when you have time on your hands. I took it back up after nearly 40 years but even after playing tunes over and over I couldn't remember so I through myself back into my work. Take care and good luck my friend Chris ( UK)

  • @cjm52 - Thank you, Chris. Thank you so much for for reaching out. You're a good man. Take care of yourself. I was so very sorry to hear about the loss of your wife of 34 years, and I will keep you in my prayers. Best wishes, my friend. Bob

  • I cannot imagine anyone not liking such a lovely voice.

  • Real Music, not like the **** of today!

  • What a devastatingly haunting voice she has. Should it be illegal? Might stop ships!

  • Excellent version. Six people have no taste in music.

  • Excellent version.

  • or quite simply............the perfect gem!!

  • quite simply, a Goddess on earth...

  • Divine :)

  • Makes me cry every time I hear it, & I'm not ashamed. The beauty & poignancy of this song and this performance could never be matched.

  • Wow, makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

  • jusotht beautiful, both song and judith. oh if only!

  • I can clearly remember watching the farewell concert ( when was it 68 or 69 ? ) in black & white, as they sang the last song, the carneval is over I noticed both my parent crying, I was about 11 years old at the time & didnt understand what it was all about, well both my parent have died recently & thanks to youtube I can now watch & listen to the Seekers & Judith's wonderfull vocals......now its my turn to cry

  • @Gapples007 WHAT A NICE TRIBUTE TO YOUR FOLKS AND THE SEEKERS. THANKS FOR SHARING.

  • @Gapples007 R.I.P to your parents my friend!!!

  • As a teen in the 60's, I remember the amazingly catchy song Georgy Girl, sung by Judith Durham. I didn't know who she was, except the ' girl ' voice in the Seekers. I didn't even know the Seekers were Australian. But that's a testament to great creative writing, with global appeal, origin doesn't matter.

If I am ever asked what the greatest love song ever sung, I will say Judith Durham's treatment of ' This is My Song '

    A Canadian fan.

  • I don't think Lady Gaga could sing this.

  • @Mufaso1000

I don't think lady " gargoyle " can sing anything.

  • @QueenReigns1 Quite true, quite true.

  • You are absolutly right!

  • The voice goes right to my heart and can't help crying a bit and agree with rich836. Beautiful!!!!!

  • play this at my funeral xx

  • to add my 10 cents worth, a crystal clear voice, not one of my favorite songs BUT very well sung, and you cant beat a LIVE ORCHESTRA, not like today's modern....

  • I can't believe how long this group has been part of my life and how many times I've played their music I was saddened when Judith Durham decided to leave the group but,... ,when Judith came back it was like they never left. Thanks for the posting its really enjoyed. U.S.A.

  • Judith is the best singer in my mind

  • A wonderful voice. It is the best version I've ever heard

  • One of the best songs ever, sung by one of the greatest groups ever. It does not get any better than this.

  • What a beautiful, lyrical and expressive voice. I've loved this woman for years and years and years...since I was a little kid. I used to have the Georgy Girl album but lost it in a move. I'll be asking "Santa" for a Seekers (or New Seekers) CD...if any are available. I certainly hope they are.

  • This is the version of this splendidly crafted song that i knew and loved as a child. I didn't understand the words back then but i was absolutely enchanted by Judith's clear, heart-achingly beautiful voice. Thank you for posting this with such good quality sound!!

  • lovely...brings back fond memories :-)

  • paulmacoakwood judith is a class act there will never be another you

  • Wow! the original version by Francoise Hardy I thought could never be betttered. Wrong! Judith Durham delivers a characteristic flawless vocal here at a slightly higher pitch. Coupled with a wonderful string arrangement, this really does give Francoise a run for her money. Didn't know the Seekers recorded this as it's sadly not on the greatest hits cd I have.

  • I love this song and all of THE SEEKERS songs no matter we live on todays modern world but this voice and songs remain top of the rest of these days modern songs, no rude picture and swearing but good voice singing to the true meaning of singing a good song that makes us still remember those in the past and live for today

  • I Want Revenge! bit . ly/jerku

  • This is the only version that compares to Francoise Hardy's. Sublime.

  • What a voice / singer, JD. This is what makes a song a hit -- an artistic performance such as this group, with the lead singer so talented. Thank you Blade 007.

  • lonely song sung softly and smooth

  • Hearbreakingly beautiful.

  • Sounds like "Don't They Know, It's The End of the World" in similar fashion.

  • their best sound as far as i am concerned

  • @1canyonguy I had meant to post this about "Ill never find another you" and had should have said "my favorite cut of theirs"

  • It is too bad thy didn't have a larger presence in the US. I think along side Karen Carpenter the two greatest female vocalists of all time.

  • This has got to be one of, if not the greatest, pop vocal performances of all time.

  • this song and the way judith sings just empahises what is missing in our society today

  • @drone3of6 Right on the money, drone. It's not about talent, content or sound anymore.

  • when i was a kid, we had one or two cassetes in the car, The Seekers was one of them, simple, pleasures, that last a life time, thanks for up loading, and thanks for their / her beuty

  • This is a beautiful song

  • When I hear her voice I am transported back nearly 50 yrs. How did all that time slip away?

I agree with many who say her voice is like that of an angel.

  • Must agree with you!!! That lovely voice was part of my childhood, and a jolly good one at that!! I used to like Petula Clark and Patty Page as well: SUCH a fabulous decade for gentle, wholesome music (mixed in with all that sex, drugs and Rock and Roll, lol!!).

  • @HolyMotherofGrid What a beautiful thought. I share it with you.

  • @Calypsis4

Count me as ONE more who couldn't agree with you more when you say her voice is 'like that of an angel!' She was and still is in a category all her own!! There is a haunting, yet sweet and innocent at the same time sound to all that she sings-- Which may be why she stays with us as we all get older. I am 51 myself (now in 2011) and will always love hearing her voice! She represents my childhood in a special way. Although I am glad I was born when I was, a bit earlier wlda bn btr!

  • the evergreen song and evergreen voice, irresistable !

  • Absolutely great, thanks for sharing. Blessings!

  • Judith!!

  • So heartwarming a song......."are you thinking of me now...missing having me around.......".

  • GREAT SONG

    SILKE UND JOHNY

  • Just beautiful...lady and voice. Nuff said.

  • Sorry but she sounds the same to me now as when she was young just beautiful

  • I guess you are the King of the world you seem to presume so much good for you , try pass along with good will to other folks instead of trying to be smart and clever you may become a nicer person . Take care my friend . sots

  • Whats the point of that last comment compliment to spiteful I don't understand .

  • Don't know what happened to you that you can not hear clearly.. Too many decibels? No other hope for you then but to brush up your Karma... And be reborn in another life and safe your eardrums.

  • This song will always remind of me of L.W. . I will always remember. C.B.

  • Judith'svoice is still as strong and beautiful as when I first heard her in the sixties

  • mooi mooi

  • Comment removed

  • Judith's voice and intonation is indeed much clearer and strong, and carries much farther. But then the song as sung by the composer Francoise Hardy is preferable to me, as it is a song of melancholy, IMHO, and Francoise's original rendition makes it more evocative and sentimental. But both versions are good in their own ways and provide good reminders of the 60's music.

  • I graduated high school in 1966. This is the '60s that I remember; not all that drug crap.

Great songs by great, talented musicians.

  • O u t s t a n d i n g. Beautiful song that The Seekers just seem to make even better. Judith's voice, strong, lovely, melodious. Thanks Blade!

  • What a voice. Pure silk. Amazing talent. Great memories. Thanks for a great post.

  • A lovely voice, but I prefer this sung by Francoise Hardy (in English).

  • She is the one..take her into your hearts....love elecman7>>>

  • I've never read a negative comment on this lady on all of her videos here. Of course how could you say something negative about Judith Durham?

  • Is it true Nicole Kidman is her daughter?

  • No. Judith had no children.

  • GREAT VOICE..QUITE THE LADY

  • Do you think Judith would have got far on this years XFactor??!!!! [Unless she was rapping and doing silly dances of course!!!]

  • to livinginhope1950...

You've hit the nail on the head...

Real talent is quite often not recognised by these so called talent quests, who are often more interested in insulting the poor contestants into depression.

  • It was a smart move to essentially copy the orchestration Francoise Hardy used. You can't improve on perfection. I mean perfection in orchestration, not voice. Judith may have the vocal edge, but anyone who hasn't seen Hardy's nighttime in Picadilly video of this song needs to seach for it on YouTube (sorry, links don't work in these comments).

  • Very nice! Brings back a lot of fond memories!

  • She has to be one of the most underated female vocalists of all time. I believe she just released another solo album

  • Very nice!

  • thanks for posting and likewise thanks to nancy for sharing....simply beautiful song and great voice....love it!

  • She is great without question but the other singers need credit also for their wonderful blending into their wonderful songs,,RWB

  • I like this than the original.....Judith Durham has a great and powerful voice.....that touches my heart.

  • Judith at her best singing a beautiful song, we are are lucky to be able to enjoy songs like this.

  • Judith has a lovely voice but I really prefer Françoise Hardy singing this song, which she wrote. Françoise's version is sadder, the French accent adds something too.

  • Possibly her best and most heartfelt song.

  • Well What can one say, that other people have'nt said about Judith Durham voice! I could just listen to her all day..Thanks for posting this Beautiful song.

  • You could engrave crystal with that voice

  • What a wonderful voice.

  • She is too good for fame. Melt.....

  • Beautiful voice of Judith Durham is magnificent..........thanks for the wonderful sharing of this video clip.

  • Judith has a wonderfull voice. I love The Water is Wide, her voice rings out in the background, beautiful

  • mooi mooi mooi

  • Yes, She was very therapudic. You dont hear music like this anymore. They were wonderfull !!

  • I f everbody listened once day to Judith D"s wonderful voice, the drug companies would go out of business

  • i agree! voice of an angel :)

  • And the gun shop shall close down. No one wants to hear any rap.

  • @momike99 I totally agree with you, momike99.

  • @momike99 - you got that right!!! Lol

  • Did Françoise Hardy write this song ? I had no idea. This is great. :-)

  • Francoise Hardy did indeed write this - or at least the original French version "Dans le Monde Entier". I think J. More wrote the English lyrics - what does the J stand for?

  • check out her own version, also on YouTube!

  • One of my most favourite songs. I love this version and Judith`s voice is beautiful. Takes me back to my younger days.

  • Is there a purer voice in existence?

  • It's a pretty close race between Judith and Art Garfunkel...

  • Beautiful song

  • Makes me recall times much less complicated and complex...lovely.

  • seekers are so far away but seem right at my side whenever they sing together.Judith is wonderful and her voice makes me remember times faster and so beautiful

  • This surely is one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

  • Is this song, Judith's greatest moment,

    as a vocalist?

  • my grand ma always play this song when I was young.....I still love this song now..Now I'm 45.One of the best group from Australia.

  • Judith's birthday is coming up on July third. (1943).

  • This may sound rediculous but I would love to replace everything I own with everything similar but from 1965. My life was good in 1965 and there wasn't so much negativity.

If I ever have the chance I am doing it right down to the car I drive.

  • groovy ... take me with you

  • The mid 1960s were actually rough years. There were riots in major cities and wars everywhere round the world. But as time goes by, we forget all the pain and we learned from mistakes. People today live in relative peace but everything become mediocre as we are in a fast food world now. A small war in Iraq is magnified to the scale of WWII. In fact its monkey president dealing with monkey business.

  • Comment removed

  • The only thing " rediculous " is your spelling of the word..Ridiculous..if you were around in '65 you should have learned the correct spelling by now.

  • Strange and very random question ..why would he be gay just because he corrected your spelling error..and what's with the ja ja ja....what is that supposed to mean?

  • I had this record when I was a kid. My elder sister bought it and I love all the music.

  • There will never be another Judith

  • Fantastic song and the lyrics are superb. Has to be one of the best ever.

  • WONDERFUL JUDITH, WHAT A VOICE.

  • Her voice is beautiful

  • Wonderful song, thanks

  • never heard this song! really nice voice

  • So beautiful.

Recently I sang in and took part in a talent competition in my town and actually came in the Top 3 (one of the 3 winners) with this song.

  • Congratulations -

  • Why, thank you :)

  • More than angelic.

  • Judith never disappoints.

  • judiths angelic voice

  • She has the voice of an angel, I'll never tire of listening to her.

  • this song reminds me sooo much of my mum she loved it thanks

  • My mother had this very album...and I loved it when she played it...loved every song on that record. Thank you for posting it.

  • tiene una voz hermosa, judith es la mejor

  • I like The Seekers, but FH's accent and sad, sweet delivery can't be beat!
