I first heard this song on an all-music station in 1967 and immediately fell in love with this hauntingly beautiful words and music. And here it is, so many years later I get to hear it again! It seems even more beautiful than I remembered when I was right out of high school. Thank you so much for sharing this!
Like so many I saw The Seekers on the BBC ewsnight porog (I think that's wha its ws called) in the early 1960's and was captivated by the rest of the group, who, when all is said and done were the instrument for Judith's voice to shine through - as was shown when she went solo....
It's now 2011 and I've just heard this song as a friend wants to sing it and asked me to have a listen. Glad she did, because the song is hauntingly beautiful. Wonder what's happened to the lads in the band?
My late father had an ear for special voices - especially female. I remember him picking our Nancy Ames, Catherine McKinnon, Anne Murray, Chrystal Gale and Judith Durham all before the rest of the world caught on. He has been gone since 1982.
I thank him for drawing my attention to all of them - especially Judith and the Seekers. Needless to say, followed them from the start - some of my oldest vinyl albums from the 60's.
@rdvqc your father had great taste and intuition. I'm sure the words of this song would be the ones he would want you to remember him by. so dep and poignent.
As Durham went on to greater anonymity she regretted many times breaking up the most successful folk pop band ever assembled, only Lennon screwed up worse.
@GANNAMEDE if you read her biography you will find she was interested in developing as a singer rather than fame. She had no regrets but celebrated the reunion when the time was appropriate
@yopent That tale is for public consumption only, because in interviews even still today when she's asked about it she's clearly contrite. She did manage to have some success in concert afterwards, but was quite surprised and disappointed that her solo act never attracted anywhere near the attention she was convinced it would.
Yes, indeed. I've told my wife that this is the song I'd like played at my funeral. Hopefully, that's some time away, of course.
The last lines "Here under that star I'm wanting you to know wherever you are, that I still love you so", sums up exactly what I want to say to my family.
Oh my God....I don't cry easily, but this gets me every time. Judith Durham in a stunning dramatic performance, the ultimate romantic statement (see also 'The Carnival Is Over').
Simply a voice to treasure for ever. The world is a better place, even for just for a tiny moment in time, when you hear Judith sing. Thank you for a truly great post.
This song brought tears to my eyes. I lost my wife of 28 years--the 28 best years of my life--last November to cancer. I was her caregiver and was with her when she breathed her last breath. She went so peacefully, so quietly, with just a small sigh. My hope and prayer is that she is waiting for me, saving a place beside her for me when it's my time for the Lord to take me home. Sometimes the pain and loneliness are almost more than I can take. I miss her so terribly and I will love her forever.
@mrtubesteak2 let me say friend I was married for 34 years and lost my wife through blindness and a sudden blood clot. You feel your world is very empty but time is a great healer. You will get over lonliness but believe me she would want you to overcome her pain and you may move on but you will never forget that great wife and best friend you had in life. Music such as this has helped me immensely - Judith has a great voice. Take care of yourself in the future Rgs Chris
@cjm52--Thank you, Chris. The music does help. I've begun to play my guitar and sing with our praise team in church again. Though it still brings tears to my eyes, there is something about singing my prayers to the Lord that has helped me so much. I know that my wife wants me to go on because she told me when she could still talk. I don't know that the ache and loneliness will ever completely go away, but I know that it will become more tolerable as time goes on; that's all I can pray for. Bob
@mrtubesteak2 Hi Bob just take it slowly and I am sure you will come through. Your church and friends are very important. The guitar is good as you can practice when you have time on your hands. I took it back up after nearly 40 years but even after playing tunes over and over I couldn't remember so I through myself back into my work. Take care and good luck my friend Chris ( UK)
@cjm52 - Thank you, Chris. Thank you so much for for reaching out. You're a good man. Take care of yourself. I was so very sorry to hear about the loss of your wife of 34 years, and I will keep you in my prayers. Best wishes, my friend. Bob
I can clearly remember watching the farewell concert ( when was it 68 or 69 ? ) in black & white, as they sang the last song, the carneval is over I noticed both my parent crying, I was about 11 years old at the time & didnt understand what it was all about, well both my parent have died recently & thanks to youtube I can now watch & listen to the Seekers & Judith's wonderfull vocals......now its my turn to cry
As a teen in the 60's, I remember the amazingly catchy song Georgy Girl, sung by Judith Durham. I didn't know who she was, except the ' girl ' voice in the Seekers. I didn't even know the Seekers were Australian. But that's a testament to great creative writing, with global appeal, origin doesn't matter.
If I am ever asked what the greatest love song ever sung, I will say Judith Durham's treatment of ' This is My Song '
to add my 10 cents worth, a crystal clear voice, not one of my favorite songs BUT very well sung, and you cant beat a LIVE ORCHESTRA, not like today's modern....
I can't believe how long this group has been part of my life and how many times I've played their music I was saddened when Judith Durham decided to leave the group but,... ,when Judith came back it was like they never left. Thanks for the posting its really enjoyed. U.S.A.
What a beautiful, lyrical and expressive voice. I've loved this woman for years and years and years...since I was a little kid. I used to have the Georgy Girl album but lost it in a move. I'll be asking "Santa" for a Seekers (or New Seekers) CD...if any are available. I certainly hope they are.
This is the version of this splendidly crafted song that i knew and loved as a child. I didn't understand the words back then but i was absolutely enchanted by Judith's clear, heart-achingly beautiful voice. Thank you for posting this with such good quality sound!!
Wow! the original version by Francoise Hardy I thought could never be betttered. Wrong! Judith Durham delivers a characteristic flawless vocal here at a slightly higher pitch. Coupled with a wonderful string arrangement, this really does give Francoise a run for her money. Didn't know the Seekers recorded this as it's sadly not on the greatest hits cd I have.
I love this song and all of THE SEEKERS songs no matter we live on todays modern world but this voice and songs remain top of the rest of these days modern songs, no rude picture and swearing but good voice singing to the true meaning of singing a good song that makes us still remember those in the past and live for today
What a voice / singer, JD. This is what makes a song a hit -- an artistic performance such as this group, with the lead singer so talented. Thank you Blade 007.
when i was a kid, we had one or two cassetes in the car, The Seekers was one of them, simple, pleasures, that last a life time, thanks for up loading, and thanks for their / her beuty
Must agree with you!!! That lovely voice was part of my childhood, and a jolly good one at that!! I used to like Petula Clark and Patty Page as well: SUCH a fabulous decade for gentle, wholesome music (mixed in with all that sex, drugs and Rock and Roll, lol!!).
Count me as ONE more who couldn't agree with you more when you say her voice is 'like that of an angel!' She was and still is in a category all her own!! There is a haunting, yet sweet and innocent at the same time sound to all that she sings-- Which may be why she stays with us as we all get older. I am 51 myself (now in 2011) and will always love hearing her voice! She represents my childhood in a special way. Although I am glad I was born when I was, a bit earlier wlda bn btr!

Judith's voice and intonation is indeed much clearer and strong, and carries much farther. But then the song as sung by the composer Francoise Hardy is preferable to me, as it is a song of melancholy, IMHO, and Francoise's original rendition makes it more evocative and sentimental. But both versions are good in their own ways and provide good reminders of the 60's music.
Real talent is quite often not recognised by these so called talent quests, who are often more interested in insulting the poor contestants into depression.
It was a smart move to essentially copy the orchestration Francoise Hardy used. You can't improve on perfection. I mean perfection in orchestration, not voice. Judith may have the vocal edge, but anyone who hasn't seen Hardy's nighttime in Picadilly video of this song needs to seach for it on YouTube (sorry, links don't work in these comments).
Judith has a lovely voice but I really prefer Françoise Hardy singing this song, which she wrote. Françoise's version is sadder, the French accent adds something too.
Well What can one say, that other people have'nt said about Judith Durham voice! I could just listen to her all day..Thanks for posting this Beautiful song.
Francoise Hardy did indeed write this - or at least the original French version "Dans le Monde Entier". I think J. More wrote the English lyrics - what does the J stand for?
seekers are so far away but seem right at my side whenever they sing together.Judith is wonderful and her voice makes me remember times faster and so beautiful
This may sound rediculous but I would love to replace everything I own with everything similar but from 1965. My life was good in 1965 and there wasn't so much negativity.
If I ever have the chance I am doing it right down to the car I drive.
The mid 1960s were actually rough years. There were riots in major cities and wars everywhere round the world. But as time goes by, we forget all the pain and we learned from mistakes. People today live in relative peace but everything become mediocre as we are in a fast food world now. A small war in Iraq is magnified to the scale of WWII. In fact its monkey president dealing with monkey business.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
OR, newspaper reporters that need to "highlight" incidents to gain copyrights and a movie deal...rite? It is magnified. Things are quieting down in Ireland and now there is a negro President. Who would have thought? Well, then Estelle Parsons wrote a tv movie script about mega comets colliding with the earth sending Frion to the earth. Thing is...was it Nasa that placed bombs on the moon? Lava flow time people...and Estelle wrote it would be during a negro President hour...Hmmm? Run Judith Run
The only thing " rediculous " is your spelling of the word..Ridiculous..if you were around in '65 you should have learned the correct spelling by now.
Strange and very random question ..why would he be gay just because he corrected your spelling error..and what's with the ja ja ja....what is that supposed to mean?
Poignant and beautiful, surely one of the best pop vocal performances of all time.

I've never read a negative comment on this lady on all of her videos here. Of course how could you say something negative about Judith Durham?

Is it true Nicole Kidman is her daughter?

No. Judith had no children.

Do you think Judith would have got far on this years XFactor??!!!! [Unless she was rapping and doing silly dances of course!!!]

You've hit the nail on the head...

Judith at her best singing a beautiful song, we are are lucky to be able to enjoy songs like this.

Judith has a lovely voice but I really prefer Françoise Hardy singing this song, which she wrote. Françoise's version is sadder, the French accent adds something too.

Possibly her best and most heartfelt song.

Did Françoise Hardy write this song ? I had no idea. This is great. :-)

Francoise Hardy did indeed write this - or at least the original French version "Dans le Monde Entier". I think J. More wrote the English lyrics - what does the J stand for?

This may sound rediculous but I would love to replace everything I own with everything similar but from 1965. My life was good in 1965 and there wasn't so much negativity.
If I ever have the chance I am doing it right down to the car I drive.

The mid 1960s were actually rough years. There were riots in major cities and wars everywhere round the world. But as time goes by, we forget all the pain and we learned from mistakes. People today live in relative peace but everything become mediocre as we are in a fast food world now. A small war in Iraq is magnified to the scale of WWII. In fact its monkey president dealing with monkey business.
