Nice comparison. I am thinking of buying on of these, particularly debating between t1i vs xsi. I don't care for the external microphone and other schiztnel like that. I do would like to have some video capabilities though.
So in terms of photo quality, which one would you recommend t1i or xsi?
I just want to take good quality pictures like for occasions or personal photos. I'm also a beginner. should I get the t1i for just $500? is it a good deal?
@spotdathief Hey, I am getting my first Canon as well. After spending several days researching and taking notes, I'd recommend the T2i. Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and Newegg all offer the T2i at the suggested price of the T1i. Also, at least as far as I could find, only Newegg offered the T1i. And that is via the net. So I can't say for sure about your local, but I couldn't get a T1i locally in-store. Canon offered only a Refurb T1i via their web site. So I decided T2i at the price of the T1i.
I will soon be getting my first dslr and I was am stuck. Should I get the T1i or T2i? I have read great things about them both and I really like them both. I am interested in using it for video as welll.
I will soon be getting my first dslr and I was am stuck. Should I get the T1i or T2i? I have read great things about them both and I really like them both.
If you are planning on doing video get the T2i, I regret getting the T1i. T1i 720p @ 30fps, T2i 720p @60fps. plus the external mic. the T2i is pretty much the same as the canon 7D video wise.
Just had the opportunity to get the T1i kit with 2 lenses, memory card, and bag for $735. Returned it and paid about $250 more for a T2i. Hope it was the right decision. Looking at getting the 10-22mm lens now.
can you please help me out, i cant seem to find any of the canon xsi anywhere, its like they've gone out of style or something, so i just want to know if i get the xs is that one any better? if not i want look for the t1i. what im looking for is good picture quality. thanks.
THX GREAT VIDEO.. NOW I CAN BREAK IT DOWN TO WHICH ONE FITS ME BEST.. BUT ANOTHER THING... I WANT A CAMERA FOR ITS QUALITY IN PICTURES, CANON VS NIKON WHICH ONE WOULD BE GREAT FOR OUTDOORS, INDOORS, SCENERY, ETC..?
I had purchased the Rebel XS & after owning it for only a month, I upgraded to the T2i. I kind of regret spending the extra money because I still had so much to learn with the XS. The few photos I took with it were great. I have to say that unless you zoom in at 100% crop, the difference between the 10mp & 18mp are hardly noticable to most eyes. My advise would be that if you're just beginning, buy an affordable camera, master it & save for better lenses.
Start this video at 2:15 and end at 2:20 Maybe I'm just bored but I thought it was hilarious... but solid information I'm seriously considering the TSI/EOS 55OD for 1080p video and the professional quality at consumer pricing.
ok soo the t2i sounds really good but it is just so much money. I will be taking videos, but mostly of my friends and of my dog. But i will manly be taking photos. With the t1i, is it able to capture photos of a running dog well? like when it is on the continuous setting, how good is it? but thank you for this information!
@xoxostephanie101 I'm about to buy my own camera and i feel a strong urge to get the T1i because i'm not going to be filming movies but it still records great video, and its the perfect camera for a Photographer. So if you don't have the money for the T2i Don't get the XSi get the T1i its just in between ;)
I recently bought the T1i and I am trying to improve the quality a little more. what lens would you recommend? What I am shooting most of the time is break dancing. thanks.
One important thing not mentioned here or any other vid is if you plan to shoot video you will need at least a class 6 SDHC memory card. I found out real quick with a standard memory card the t2i quits after 5 sec. Wouldnt you think they would forewarn you of this. But they sure talk about the great HD you can take though, dont they. Just Beware!
Thank you for the clear cut information and layout of the comparison! Much simpler than any of the others I've seen here on YouTube :) I KNOW I'm going to be shooting high end video and was very curious about the differences between the T1i and T2i in minimalistic terms! I'll definitely be heading the T2i route after watching this!
Thank you for the clear advice! I am seriously looking into a Canon Rebel T2i but would love to watch a video clip of someone playing the piano. Will be using it for music mainly and want to know how it picks up. Is the internal microphone quality enough or is an external microphone a must? Thank you again!
And by the way i want to start photography, but i also want a good camera for youtube. (the lack of a mic input is not a problem as there are adapters which can be used)
If you're going to be shooting VIDEO, go buy a friggin camcorder IMO. Yeah, I love the options, but you know what, I buy a SLR to take photos; not video. I'd buy a camcorder for video.
picture quality on he Xsi being better than either the T1i or the T2i...is this true? or are they exactly the same? ideally i would like something with as good of picture quality on the Xsi but at the same time the fantastic HD video capability.
if you could help me out with this i would really appreciate it, thanks so much!
i'm a beginner into photography but i'm definitely considering one of these three cameras...at first i was set on the Xsi, but then i realized that because i don't have a decent camcorder i would like the camera to also have a video function. i have a few questions, are the video capabilites on the T1i and T2i comparable to a normal HD camcorder? in other words, would getting either the T1i/T2i be better than buying the Xsi and another camcorder? also, i have heard some things about the (cont..)
@howaboutstefanie Ill make this easy for you- Get the T2i! Ive owned all of them, if you are thinking about video, you will get the most out of the T2i. Its worth the extra money and less expensive than buying an XSi and another HD video camera.
@howaboutstefanie There's no substitute for an actual hd camcorder. Also, keep in mind, the full HD on the 500d and 550d only records at 20FPS (my mobile phone can record at 30fps). You're main reason for choosing should be the image quality.
@danielreckman i guess 60fps on 720 is pretty decent but i doubt you get the full range of manual controls on it. Still, it's good enough for most users.
Yes the t1i is the same as the 500

If you want to do photography go for Nikon, better sensor and better glass in my opinion. But if video is your main concern, Canon all the way.
