Much appreciated sweet, you shouldn't have had to feel that you had to do that. It was a bad mistake - Obama clearly has a lot to learn in the field of international diplomacy. The symbolism of those gifts cannot be overstated, they were all massively important. Whether or not Brown is a tit - I personally believe he was, politically speaking - but the man deserved respect (deserved, because he's gone now) for his title, his role, and we deserve respect too. The fact your policy needs changing is what is rather disturbing- it's taken 60 years to figure out wave after wave of fighter jets isn't the answer? Despite what you may think we do actually have an army- ok we don't go to your extreme level of 'let's have a few million soldiers and 10 aircraft carriers' but we can actually invade/defend places when the need arises. My grandfather was there on Normandy beach that day when 4/5ths of the soldiers were killed saving Europe from themselves(the very people that Obama apologized for our arrogance to) and was shot several times in the legs;wounds that still effect him to this day! He did not receive his metals until 50 years later,they sent them to him through the mail after they sat in a warehouse for all that time.He never did get his purple hearts.I've always wondered if it was because he is Native American.

Brianm500.. wake up! You are still glidding in sentiments. I think they should intensify teaching of American history throughout American schools. Clearly, this American/UK relationship started in world war II. It never existed before. America dealt with UK deplomatically prior to the world war II. Obama is back to dealing with UK deplomatically and that is how it should be. America ambition is to united the world in a global relationship not a personal relationship between two.

Seriously Obama hasnt put a foot wrong on this trip to Europe. You Americans clearly know nothing about gift giving between leaders.Its not Obama who decides what to get the way you decide what to get your friends.Brown loves modern American culture and he said so when he addressed congress so this was about showcasing American culture. exactly - "sentimental gifts" - they should have been gifts for the people of the country - is the queen lending you her iPod? can you view brown's video's in a public museum? No, these gifts were meant to irritate people, plain and simple. Notice how he grabbed the queen's hand with both of his hands (another faux pas) while he bowed to the king of saudi arabia.. this man does nothing by mistake..this is all planned

Whether or not Gordon Brown is a jerk is irrelevant - the point is that obama did not show respect for the Britiish people or for the relationship between the countries - purposely, I might add. He gave the Queen an iPod! How inconsiderate! The gift should be to the people of England, not a personal gift that anyone can BUY anywhere. It is supposed to be a gift of meaning. If you don't see the difference, then I don't know what to say.
