  • you're pretty cool man

  • Wow.wow..Awesome mate..U rock

  • @volpable Thanks...and you rock too for checking out the vid and taking time to let me know you liked it. BzB :-)

  • Thanks for the input on studio drumming. I have landed my first studio gig and have been preparing for it and you just confirmed that Im doing what I should be doing. Appreciate the input and I definitely wont forget to do any "idiot checks!"

  • I always need idiot checks lol

  • am i the onl\y one that noticed in the beggining his symbol sounded like a snare :o

  • if time is money, why are you making a video in the studio?

  • Click tracks are no more if you are recording on an electric kit. That's why there is BFD, Addictive Drums. and others. Playing an electric kit and quantizing all the midi notes is the new thing. It's kind of like Vocals and Autotune. Nobody has to be good to record anymore they just got to be good playing live.

  • @penska13 That has not been my experience. Maybe in the big LA and New York studios it is that way when they are recording POP music...but I play all my parts live to recording and I do not need to be Quantized. Most Genres of music require more feeling that a mere machine can give. I think what you are talking about is reserved for the likes of Lady Gaga and Justin Beiber. BzB :-)

  • @bazybeats You would be surprised. But not just POP music is using that every genre of music is.I wasn't bashing you dude. And no it doesn't sound stale at all. I got a couple vids to where I quantized to be dead on and you don't loose feeling. check em out on my page. have fun.

  • @bazybeats I did not take it that you were bashing me. I just have not seen so much of the quantizing where I play. I did know that it existed...and drum machines have been doing a lot of recordings for the last 30 years or so. So I totally got where you were coming from. But real playing is not dead. There are still folks out there playing live to recording. The art has not been totally sucked out of studio drumming. BzB :-)

  • I would love it if the dude who asked you to record with him went "Fuck off talking to the camera and play god dammit!" :L

  • @DiseasedSquidwurd I would love it if you would quit posting curse words on my channel. BzB :-)

  • how much money do you believe you have spent over the years on drum equipment

  • Way too much to count. Luckily, I think I have always been able to make more money playing than I end up spending. BzB :-)

  • pretty helpful and reassuring cheers mate

recording for the first time with my band in a studio next week, can't wait :)

  • I am glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the comment. Good luck on your studio time. BzB :-)

  • @bazybeats why would you go in studio with an electric kit

  • @bazybeats The result of our studio time is on my channel :) Thank you for your help in your video!

  • hahahaha got him

  • dude i wanna come play those drums haha i live in st pete

  • how does making a 7:42 second video in the studio save time? lol im jping thanks for the video its really helpful

  • LOL...we scheduled it that way...I do actually get serious criticism on that very issue though...It always makes me chuckle when they are for real. BzB :-)

  • nice!!

  • i watched a couple of your vids, very cool. i subbed too :P keep it up man

  • Thanks...There will be more to come. BzB :-)

  • haha you actually replied, awesome

  • I reply to almost every single person that writes me...As long as they are at least respectful and reasonable. BzB :-)

  • dudes shute the hell up bazy is a good friend and awsome drummer clean off your own door step before you even think of trying to clean of any body els punk kids get off you tube its past your nigth time go play in traffic keep rocking bazy beats

  • Thanks for catching my back on that one. I somehow missed that one...but that is ok...I deleted his ignorant comment. Now back to real business.

    BzB :-)

  • he looks like a fatter simon pegg haha

  • ... how are playing electric drums being a poser? they are fantastic to record with for starters..

  • electric drums are just as good dude seriously

  • lol wtf?

  • im thinking why u guys are so mad becouse he talks "too much"...

i think you cant show anything like this without talking.

    Keep it goin!

  • Thanks for the support. BzB :-)

  • thankyou man, this has been really helpfull! i always forget basic stuff like this

  • Thanks for letting me know that the vid helped. I appreciate the positive vibe and feedback.

    BzB ;-)

  • If your so worried about costing your 'client' money by taking ages to do a take, why did you spend 10 minutes talking to a camera?

Sorry that just sprung to mind :p

  • Do you really think I am an idiot...of course we had this planned with this particular client...I mean..like...Duuuuuuuhhhhh...Man...I just dont get some of these comments...

    BzB :-)

  • Well, thats a topic that can be debated for hours :p

im not trying to be rude of anything man!

Im just saying ten minutes is like what a couple of takes of a song?

    ALTHOUGH!

Just thinking, you could have done the video as say a singer was recording is part, wow, i didnt think it through xD

    My bad :)

  • It is quite alright...I did not mean to be so hard assed yesterday either...but it was a bad day here so I was already at the end of my rope. No sweat dude...I appreciate the write back. BzB :-)

  • That is just the most stupid comment I have ever seen on an instruction video...What do you think the purpose of this video really was....Do you think it was for your entertainment...Noooooooooo. Did I do it for my health...Noooooooooo. Must have been to teach someone something...ya think?

    BzB :-)

  • I started playing at 11y/o. I plyd til i graduated from high school. Recently got this intense desire to start again. Anyone who has advice on a good (not terribly expensive & not Pulse or SP) entry level/intermediate kit, please help. Appreciate it!

  • PDP makes kick ass kits....they have beginner kits to intermediate kits to professional kits. You know they're good kits too because they are a branch off of DW drums.I'm thinking of getting the 805 kits. They're fuckin awesome :) Check em out!

  • the 805 kick is pretty kick ass. i bought one, they are very nice and the only thing that i dont like about it is the powerder coated hoops. but overall the kit was worth the buy.

  • Appreciate the advice Anthrax1331!! I had actually heard a lot about PDP and the Mapex QR Fusionease.

  • pearl vision

    gretsch catalina maples

ludwig accent cs custom or custom elite

  • Click = good for studio, no brainer...Well done

  • yep . thats the first thing. and he nailed it. good job

  • The best advice any musicial or drummer can give to one another. Practice with the click

  • Thanks for backing me on that one. BzB :-)

  • yeah, no problem. Im a drummer my self and I learned that little trick the hard way.

  • Me Too. BzB :-)

  • hey dude which eletronic drum kit do u think is good and cheap instead of the roland?

  • If you absolutely cant stand Roland for some reason then the only other Company that comes close in technology is Yamaha in my opinion. BzB :-)

  • hey , im also a drummer , how good i have to be , to be able to ask to get paid?

  • A good drummer keeps good time above all other things...has a few tricks in his bag for when he needs them and does not over play. I started auditioning for bands once I could play the majority of the songs that I heard on the radio, but even then I had a long way to go before I considered myself to be really good. I still got jobs none though, and the jobs made me a better player. It does not hurt to start auditioning once you feel confident enough to go and do it. BzB :-)

  • Very helpfull and full of information. I liked it. Awesome. Grats for that good review-thing ;)

  • Thanks for a great comment. BzB :-)

  • Great Video. I'm not even a drummer but it all applies to guitar as well. They rammed that through our heads at music college - be prepared. Like bringing a whole load of picks and spare strings and stuff. This video will help people. :)

  • Awesome...thanks for the comment. BzB :-)

  • Hey, i charge 50 bucks per song and sometimes 60 depending on how hard the song is. Is that too cheap? Do most drummers charge more? I've been getting a lot of studio gigs lately and i'm wondering if it's because i'm cheap and get it done fast. If so, i'm raising the price haha.

  • I have been doing studio for a while and I charge by the number of songs I record...most places pay by the song...the client pays by the hour for the recording studio...but I like to charge about $150 just to set up my drums...so if everything changes at least I am still getting my money for getting there with all my stuff and setting up. After that, I record 2 songs for that amount. After that it is $50 per song. I can usually cut in the first take or two. It is good money for me. BzB :-)

  • Well i use their drum set so that saves me the setup. I kind of wish i could charge a setup fee haha.

  • Just one question. What kind of music do your band play? :>

  • It is pretty much Rock and Dance music...when we play the dance stuff we rock it up a bit...it is 70's to current. BzB :-)

  • nice! sorry for my bad english. i'm from sweden :p

  • hehe jag med

  • lol. jag bryr mig inte

  • Got a new Vid Up... Let me know what you think "kevin depree- shed session"

  • Hey me again do think the black eletronic pads are good because u got the white with the black cover is black just fine?

  • Are you talking about the Black Rubber Pads or Black Mesh...If it is mesh...Mesh is Mesh as far as I am concerned...but I do like the feel of the Roland Mesh I am using. Rubber is an entirely different ball park...Those pads usually do not have the same response and you cannot get consistantly good rolls out of them. BzB :-)

  • The REAL first thing you might want to bring, is an acoustic kit... also... be more prepared than just a bunch of wood sticks. Have mallets, brushes, hot rods or something similar, more than one snare if possible. Different songs will requirer different sounds and textures and make sure to turn off all fans (unless your using a electric kit)... For the record, it is possible for a human to be on time without a click... you can record without a click if it feels right.

  • Trust me on this one thing...if you are working for a record company or any other client worth their salt...you will be on a click track regardless of what you think your meter is or not. Also...with the electric kit you do not need all the different snares and sticks. The e-kit can make all those sounds...and perfectly, I might add. That is why they are one of the best tools for the recording studio. No mics relyable tuning every time without the fuss. Thanks for the comment. BzB :-)

  • I took that one vid off... good call. It wasn't a best foot forward. It was more like falling down a flight of stairs. I tried my best to do 4 different songs at 4 different tempos in one take (not to mention I did the backing tracks) and I threw the beat to far back with some of the latin grooves during some fills... If I redo it I will show you but I probably wont. Keep in touch. I do did what your doing. Didn't mean to be aggressive. I just don't like electric kits

  • No problem man...E-kits are not for everyone...I understand that. You show great promise as a up and coming artist. I cant wait to see what you are capable of by the time you get my age. I look forward to seeing more from you as you continue to expand and progress. BzB :-)

  • why is the last 20 seconds blank...

  • I had no idea that it did that. Thanks for brining that to my attention...I will take precautions to see that it does not happen again...BzB :-)

  • Thanks for the video by the way! You should do a video for Playing on the stage, on my last gig, i left my electric drum module, my drum sticks, my drum tool, and my (water bottle in case i get thirsty. so we got delayed for 30 minutes because i had to drive back home and get my stuff...

  • good thing my guitarist left his picks at home, so i wasn't blamed fully for the delay...

  • Actually I do have a vid up for first time stage gigs...it is called "So your doing your first gig eh?" Check out my video channel page and click "view all" at the bottom of the video box.

  • Oh, I'll check it out.

  • how many times i've been in a recording studio and not played to a click...but others like to use them, depends

  • I am wondering who you worked for that allowed you not to run with a click. Every pro situation I have ever been in, it was necessary so that the song could be properly timed and exact. No human can do that without help. So were these just recordings that you were paying for...your own demos or something? Otherwise you would be on a click. BzB :-)

  • i should have said that they were band demo's we payed for them but they were a live recording.

  • Yea...Live is totally different...and demo's are different. Some times even on demos you will find that the engineer of the studio will want you on a click because the studios use good recordings to show off what they can do for prospective customers. If your recording is good then they can use it as a demo as well. So you can run into that. BzB :-)

  • talk too much

  • mm.. mpdrums94 is my mail.. it looks a lot like my youtube account name =P seeya!

  • Thanks a lot bazy!!.. too bad I didn't saw I before my first trip :(.. I was completely sure (that day), that I putted my sticks on my bag.. I arrived there and, you know!,, they weren't.. fortunately, my house was just a couple of blocks away.. and we payed for the entire day!.. It was veeery early in the morning.. but, the bassist took a lot more time than me (about 2 or 3 hours :S) ;).. so thanks again! I miss your vids..

    mpdrums94 ;)

  • Great advice sir.Your videos are really helpful as ive just returned to drumming after so long

  • cool...I am glad you enjoyed the vid. BzB :-)

  • so how much time did u waste in making this video inside that studio? practice what u preach i would rather have heard some crazy neil peart solo then that

  • No waste here...it is all about making money. Silly person...I am not stupid...however, someone looking for a Neil Peart solo should have put that in their search terms...Useless hater...BzB ;-)

  • Solos are too over-rated...

  • oust

  • hahaha definitely a happy drummer, amazing work man, your tips are more useful than other commercial instructional videos

  • Thanks...I appreciate the great comment. BzB :-)

  • What's the drumkey for? tuning the e-set? hahaha, i heard drums sound nice when tuned in a good way - must be rumours or something,...

  • The drum key actually does have a function on the electronic kit. The mesh heads are tightened, loosened and replaced using a key. There are also some parts of the kit that use drum lugs to tighen and loosen the parts. So...ya...definately...take a key with the e-kit. BzB :-)

  • .. ur special lol

  • Haha great video.

  • Please tell me what you think about Hal Blaine's work for The Association. Windy, Cherish, Never My Love...Thank you! DO YOU LIKE ASSOCIATION MUSIC?

  • How does a drummer know where he is in the song if he's only listening to a click track?

  • There are a couple of ways. One way is that the producer will sometimes que me on parts...or I may be in the studio with a keyboard player or bass player and I will be listening to them play or maybe the vocalist will be speaking or singing the words of the song for me. It is not all just click track. BzB :-)

  • thanks man!!

  • Wish I had seen this vid a few years ago!

To all young drummers out there, take notes, it will save you a tonne of time/money in the future

I remember having to be a bands drummer/roadie/AND manager - oh the fun (esp. when you forgot something like an extra "E" string!?)

    Thanks for your vids.

    -G

  • You are fuckin professionell. respect

  • ur really good!!!!!!!

I to checked out all your videos!!

Hope ill be as good as u one day!!!!!!!!

How long have u been playing for??

  • I have been playing since September of 1980.

    BzB :-)

  • Such a sad month in the world of drumming.

    RIP John Bonham

  • Yes...peace brother. BzB :-)

  • Hasnt John Bonham been dead for 28 years?

Are you meaning John Rutsey, Rush's ex-drummer?

  • No, bazybeats said he has been playing since September of 1980. John bonham died in the 25th September 1980

  • Ah, sorry. But still.

    RIP John Bonham

    RIP John Rutsey.

  • Yeah :(

  • alright thankz u helped alot

i thought the head fones were for only the beeping...

  • ooo so thats wut those head fones are for.. i though they were for listening to the guitar and u play the drums parts to it...but how do u wut ur playing wen u cnt hear anything eles but the drums? im honestly confused cuz im going into a studio for the very first time and idk to expect at all im scared haha..

but wen i jam out with my band i have to listen to wut my band is playing for me to play my drum parts

i dont kno if wut i wrote up there made sense.. please comment bak

  • I use the headPhones to listen to everything...the other instruments and myself. We usually only play with a me, a bass and a vocalist on the first run. The bass helps me feel the song rhythm and the singer helps us know where we are at in the song. The guitar, keys, horns, back up singers and such all come at different times once the rhythm track is established. You should be able to hear the other parts in the phones. BzB :-)

  • great advise. wish I was as awesome as you :(

  • Dude!!!! awesome tips!! i like the "less is more" thing..., cause every time i go to the studio i have to record like 450 takes because i want to play awesome, but obviously i cant with all the tension, i get so nervious at studio =( , so i´ll have this video in my mind the next time!, thank you!!. Sebastian.-

  • Ya..it is easy to get excited in the studio if you are enjoying the music. I always cut back to about 50% of what I am capable of when I am in the studio. Thanks for commenting. BzB :-)

  • if i had a dime for every time i did an "idot check" ...

  • For me it is the most important part of the gig because if I am missing anything it is probably at least $100 worth and that eats into the profits big time. Thanks for the comment...BzB :-)

  • holy poop!!! Your amazing!!!! ive watched like every one of your videos each and every one is sooooo amazing!!!! ive played drums for like 2 to 3 years but not elctric... keep with it man your amazinggg!!!

  • Thank you very much for the feedback...I woke up to this comment today...it was nice and refreshing. BzB :-)

  • i've learned to speak too much foolish words but not to play drum...stat citt stat u scem!

  • Ok...You are funny and I hope you have gotten the attention that you were looking for today. Thanks for stopping by. BzB :-)

  • Bla Bla Bla Bla Bla... more play and less words please!!!!!!!!!!

  • Take some time out of your day and learn something. Stop complaining every time someone wants to take time out of their day to share some information with you. You might find something of value here that helps you in the future. BzB :-)

  • very good video for band starters :D

  • Thanks...I am hoping young drummers will not have to go through the pains of leaning these things the hard way. BzB :-)

  • great great vid. thank you so much for sharing knowledge =)

  • That is what it is all about bro...thanks for posting your comment. BzB :-)

  • You all need to show some respect,to this man. He's a pro and nows what he is doing.I'm not playing!!!! show some respect.Yo You rock on (bazybeats)

  • Thanks for the support JCFREAK...BzB :-)

  • hey bazy once again thanks for dedicating this video to me

i have recorded a few more times and your video has helped me so much when it comes to recording and i bet you have helped many others also

  • Thanks a bunch for letting me know how much this has helped. It is always nice to hear that sort of stuff and is the only pay back that I ever get for making the vids. Thanks also for sticking around my channel. You have been here with me since almost the very beginning. BzB :-)

  • I Cant wait for the band I'm in to start recording in a studio. Great video really helps. Oh and btw how much does it cost to record in a studio?

  • Thanks for the comment...as for cost of recording...that just depends on what studio you get into...In the Tampa Bay Area where I live the average price for a good studio is between 80 to 100 USD per hour. But if you want the big time quality then you could be looking at a lot more. BzB :-)

  • Many thanks for your videos. Do you do all of your recording with an electronic kit? I love V drums and I'd like to believe that they're perfect for about anything but live performance but a lot of the traditionalists make them seem unfeasible in the studios. Cheers.

  • I use my electronic kit in the studio and in live gig situations for just about every kind of music. The studios that I work with always ask for them. BzB :-)

  • I may be stupid but you are 13...enough said.

    BzB :-)

  • Dont come off telling me you are sorry for offending me after you said "u are so stupid u dumb retard" Now how is that sorry if I offended you? What is wrong with you children? You actually think it is ok for you to say stuff like that and then suddenly cry sorry when I call you on it? I dont believe that you are suddenly sorry!!!

    BzB :-0

  • This is exactly why 13 Y/O kids should be monitored on the computer. Are they not teaching you social skills at home or at school? You are now banned and blocked from my page. BzB :-)

  • lol.. it got funnier towards the end... he he.. idiot check is very important... i did a show and forgot my throne at the venue... next day it was gone :(

  • yep...ya gotta watch everything or you will end up spending more money than they are paying you to be there. I made that mistake a few times...that is why I made the vid...hope I can keep others from making the same mistakes. BzB ;-)

  • Bazy,

I'm trying to get more into a working status in music here in Orlando. I play twice a week at church and I'm trying to get a job at a local music store. Anything taht I can do to get into the enviorment. I have great gear(Pearl MMX with Sabian and Yamaha DTXpress 3 kits). How do I go about getting into the scene of session work. I love to play with different musicians. Please advice!! Thanks!

    P.S. Great vids..and dig the V-Drums!

  • Hey stationmaster12...thanks for the kind words and comment. As for getting work as a session drummer, the way I did it was to just make my self known to the studios. I looked them up in the phone book and started going around introducing myself. These days we have Craigs list...BzB :-)

  • Holy shit, what kind of guitar is that?

  • What guitar are you talking about davey? BzB :-)

  • A click track? You mean a metronome?

  • No...I meant exactly what I said...A "Click Track"...A click track is a metronome sound that is placed on one track of the audio so that it can be played back in synch with the rest of the audio for multiple track recordings and musicians that were not present for the initial track can automatically synch their playing to the original track or tracks. BzB :-)

  • Makes sense I guess. Keeps everyone in time. You can always speed up or slow down an individual track in editing as well so it's all good. (I use a mac/logic btw)

  • Thats cool...Yep...it is a great technique to help keep everyone in time even when they do not all see each other in the studio. BzB :-)

  • Great advice sir.Your videos are really helpful as ive just returned to drumming after about 8 years absence.

  • Thank you too mrc942 for the great feedback. BzB :-)

  • Ur a great teacher bazy man love ur work man

  • Sorry it took me so long to see this cfcshez...thanks for the comment man...

    BzB :-)

  • Great advice. You seem like a really great teacher and explain things so comprehensively. Nice. My brother-in-law is a drummer too. I'm going to send this to him. I know he'll love it. xo

  • Hi again surfr71...thanks for the great complement. I appreciate that you are sending this vid along to your Bro-in-law...My entire YouTube project is all about sharing the information that I have amassed in 26 years of playing drums professionally..maybe I can help someone else to not make some of the mistakes I had to learn from. In my day job I am a school teacher so maybe that helps me come off like a good teacher. Cheers...BzB :-)

  • hey bazy i got my td6 wow i love it

    !!! roland is the best

  • Hey Killer...I remember when I saw my first set of Roland Drums...They were the first to duplicate Hi-hat opening and closing on one pad with a pedal...now they are the first to have pads that open and close like a Hi-hat...I love Roland...they are so ahead of the rest of the pack. BzB :-)

  • Thanks, it answered allright :) And other q
