The festival of sahara still happening. Next January and February there are 2 festivals. I know an African friend who is Guide, so if someone out there wants to go, send me a text for more details.
I just read someone comment about Ali Farka Toure death in March 2006. He will always be a LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! His son is very good to.I wish that I could have heard him play live.
I'm loving this. SOMEBODY PLEASE GIVE ME SOME CONCERT INFORMATION WHERE THEY ARE PLAYING IN 2011. I've shared this video with all of my friends, we want to see them LIVE. Somebody e-mail me @vivianmackenzie@yahoo.com.
The man was a genius! I'm sad that I only discovered his music recently when I visited my local library. He left us the beautiful gift of his music. RIP.
This festival takes place in January at Essakane, Mali. Not far from Tomboktu, Mali. Amazing, I only just heard about it. I would love to go to Tombuktu, Mali. When does Ali Farka come to Canada?
Where can I find some kind of audio version? I need to be able to blast this in my ears all day every day for the next few weeks. There's a great version of this song, Goye Kur, on the album The Source, which includes a njarka--but I need this exact version like I need air and water. My gratitude would be limitless.
Your racism and bigotry stink like dog shit. You would not appreciate great music if it hit you with a sledgehammer. Why don't you just curl up and die?
Yes, it is very spiritual. That's why I like it. I started looking for the origins of music over 10 years ago when I first heard Ali Farka. I think this is close to being the root of all music not just blues.
The melodies and modal scale are very unsophisticated. Both reflect ancient roots in the N. Africa region which is very close to the Cradle of Civilization.I may be wrong but I can envision this style of music going back 2000+ years.

I'm afraid he isn't coming to Canada, cuz he is not among the living people, but I bet his son Veux might come to Canada one day.

Ali played through a Roland Jazz Chorus amp. I don't think the Captain would go for that.

I think its way too sophisticated to be at the root, but it can help us triangulate where the root was.

Your comment is rather unsophisticated and seemingly implies that music need be complex to be worthy of adoration.
