The Orange Pumpkin, 747 is the plane my father in law flew....What a great airline, We still miss it......May 2012 Anniversary of 30years when they went bankrupt....So sad, Miss THE CLASS is had.....Dad flew for them for 32 years.
I remember that , as a boy interested in planes, the first airplane I ever saw leaving Amsterdam 'Schiphol' Airport for the far away United States (which I thought of as the country where everything was even better than with us) was a Braniff 747, with orange paint on it...
Let me correct you Braniff ONE, the Braniff with the flying colors from 1965-1983, was called
BRANIFF INTERNATIONAL AIRWAYS.
I dont know what the other two Braniffs(mid 80's and early 90's were called.
.......and Braniff wouldn't be caught dead flying the A380.........If Lawerence was still around, it would be an all Boeing fleet. He's the guy who killed the one-11's after Braniff had enough 727's to fill the void.
The Concords were code-shared. BN never owned one.
@godsentyes Actually, they ran out of money because they overextended themselves in a bad economy by introducing European and Asian routes which required that they buy more planes and hire more staff but they couldn't fill those planes with passengers. Flying has never been the same since. I miss BI!
@zomgitzpaige Unless her parents are 100 years old, that's pretty much impossible. Braniff was "owned" by Paul Branif, then Tom Braniff (neither of which had a daughter named Daniela).. and then the Troy Post corporation. Braniff was the only trunk carrier to bear the name of it's founder, but that doesn't automatically make it an heir of every person who shares the last name of Braniff. ;-)
Might want to do a little fact checking next time. ;-)
I remember the big red 747-100 braniff had. It was called the big red apple. BTW Braniff never had any airbuses. They closed and went out of bussiness long before airbus came to be.
Sorry, that is incorrect. Braniff had taken delivery of numerous A320s in late summer 1989. (They were the FIRST US carrier to do so.) However, the financial damage had already been done, and by the time the new, more efficient planes were put into service, it was too little, too late. Many good people with Braniff lost their jobs when they shut down operations abruptly one beautiful day in September. I was one of those people, working at Kansas City International Airport.
@Manongjojo Again another lovely comment which wasn't fact checked.. some of those A320s are still flying for America West (re-branded US Airways after the merger).
Brasniff!

Not only funky, but top-notch service, with smoking lounges (back in the days when we were free), and airline food that did not look or taste like it.
Service. It was all about service.

the A320s that were destined for Braniff were sold to America West at a very big financial loss to Airbus.
