From the scant evidence I can find this video appears to be a live show recorded at Onkel Pö's Carnegie Hall in Hamburg, W. Germany on October 29 or 30 1976. Audio from these two days of recordings was apparently released in the form of two LPs from Aves, "The Piano Prince Of New Orleans," and "Blues and Ragtime From New Orleans."
The incomparable James Booker. Does anybody know where that man truly came fro-wo-wom? I'm grateful to have been a young man living in New Orleans to hear him. Truly rarified air that man.
Pretty weird?? The Black Mozart was a stone cold genius!! A wild man who lived the life and was possibly the last of the true Big Easy 88 players Thanks for posting.
It's so nice to see new Booker's appearances coming in. He's obviously not in great shape, but he is saying so much with his music. Thanks for posting !
It's from a VHS-tape too, perhaps better quality from the original, no longplay usage maybe, perhaps a better broadcasting situation. I used nero to edit and a, now broken, lite-on dvd-recorder to digitize from tape, kind regards, Aart
great stuff!

as for being 'weird' check the lyrics :
"some say i'm crazy, and some say i'm dumb, but it doesnt mean that they know where i'm coming from"
puts that one to bed really innit ;)

Geniuses of all disciplines make the seemingly impossible look incredibly effortless and easy. Booker did that. What a treasure!

James Booker was not weird, he was a genius, I guess if you are talking about his eminence as a unique, world class artist, then yeah, he was weird.

Unfortunately, it takes a lot of hurt and pain to write and sing this song....but it is so true.

Listening to JB makes me alternate between wanting to quit music forever, and wanting to do nothing but play piano. The man's utterly untouchable.
