Great job, man! Check out my cover of this song...not nearly as good as yours. I can't sing as well as you can. You're not Kiefer, but you made it your own, and the guitar playing is tight. Keep rockin', brother!
I stumbled across this video just doing a search and I have to say I love the guitar work on this. Great job! Keep it up...I appreciate your go at this one. -Zac
Try singing in a lower octave coz I kinda find from 2:21 onwards, you're trying to emulate Kiefer's voice - that won't do. Kiefer, Lani Jane & especially Sebastian Bach are a no-no to try. They're legends coz it's 2nd nature to them! You can do it! Just be yourself & sing with soul, like the intro & you'll ace it! Salute your guitar-playing man! Peace!
One thing nobody realizes is that I was *not* using my falsetto, either here or on the Skid Row. That was the problem, actually. I was trying to hit the part with my real voice and that's why it didn't work. I can actually hit those notes very easily if I did use my falsetto, which can reach soprano ranges (see "The Phantom of the Opera").
I'll give you a constructive criticism - you're no Kiefer, but well @ least you're original. Thumbs up! Really, that's good enough to melt any girl, seriously man.
But about not taking negative criticism... well, you snap back like a raging dragon! Chill, amigo - Rock'n'Roll is all about ATTITUDE. Be hot, but not hot-headed. I'm Asian bro, so this ain't some racist attack. CHILL man! Keep rockin'!!!
There is a major difference between constructive criticism and plain old trolling. I don't mind reasonable statements like yours. I mind when people put down ignorant statements like "All vibrato sucks" or criticize anything that didn't sound like the original recording (eg. when I changed the riff to "Gimme Shelter").
Hey Derek..Good Job.....umm..I got a question on the intro...First..wow..I've never seen it being played without the pointer finger..interesting...is it more comfortable? Also, the tail end of the intro where there is that last high note on the first string..I've seen some examples where they actually play it on the first string 4th fret..I can't see where you play it, but I would rather play your version...could you tell me or show me or send me a message for the intro tab?
@lordweird If you want to sound like the record, this video isn't the way to play it. I had transcribed it with a 6-string acoustic, so I hadn't realized the droning high strings were often the B and G octaves from a 12-string. The real chord shapes should be: G - 300033 Cadd9 - x32033 Dsus2/F# - 2x0230 Pick this pattern on all chords, shifting the bassline: ________x_______ __________x_____ ____x___________ __x___x_________ ________________ b___________b_b_
Hey You Have to Be Able To Take Criticism Dude if Your Gonna Put up a Video i Mean There are Some People Out There Who Think The Actual Cinderella singing This Song Sucks So yea. And Great Vid Nice Guitar Playing A Very Good Tip Tho Stop Using So Much Vibrato Try Using More "Raspiness" in Your Voice Trust Me You'll Get A Lot More Attention From The Ladies !!! : )
Good job man and don't worry mabey you ain't got the same voice that Cinderella has but it is a lot fuckin better than mine and prolly most these douche bags talkin shit!!!
@EmmaThePunker at least at the beginning... u should do something else on the end maybe... it's just wrong there.. sorry. Very wrong... it cuts my ears
Personally I think (and again just opinion) I thik the vibrato works well and nowhere did I read cinderella "tribute". I read this was a cover and with any cover it is open to interpritation. Noone should listen to Knocking on Heavens Door by GnR cuz it dont sound like Dillon I guess. If arrow and bfrance don't like vibrato then they can take it out of there cover.
Ok...bfrance0000 has a point. Elvis and those you mentioned did use vibrato a lot but they did not use it on ALL of their songs. No one is arguing that you have a great voice. Sometimes (and this is one of them) vibrato needs to be limited. No dis-respect I just needed to say my two cents about this topic. You did great on the guitar though. Just limit the vibrato on some songs. That's all that is really being said.
And how do you decide "when the vibrato needs to be limited"? What's your basis for saying "this is one of them"? Just because the original didn't use it?
This is my choice on the song. If you don't like it, don't listen.
Don't be so defensive. It was only a comment. You did great with the guitar. And yes, the original didn't use vibrato and my OPINION is that using it less throughout the song instead of throughout. Calm down. We all have our opinions. Why not read the comments and take it in instead of biting everyones head off.
"Take out all the vibrato" is not an intelligent musical note. Now, if you all were actually well versed enough in singing and musical arrangement to say, "This line sounds better with a head voice, make it lighter so the next bridge hits harder", that's a whole different deal. Instead, all you do is say, "vibrato's not good" or "use it less throughout". There is no informed, specific musical opinion there.
Well if you are unwilling to hear comments and at least think about what people say, then I am done talking to you. People have a right to opinion. You don't have to be a jerk. And I will take your advice and not listen to you because it hurts my ears to listen to you.
Another viewer commented on my cover of Veruca Salt "Sundown" that the vocals were too "pretty" for the song, which was an aggressive, angry punk song. *That* is an example of a good note. You're not there; an "OPINION" is just personal taste until it's justified with motivation. "The original didn't do it" is no motivation; the original Leonard Cohen version of "Hallelujah" didn't use qawwali techniques; I suppose you'd tell Jeff Buckley not to use those amazing microtones on his cover.
just subscribed, and dont want to be blocked, but if I may interject my opinion on this whole vibrato discussion. There are points in this song where the vibrato is awesome, but there are also points where it is unnecessary. Basically, I love pizza and wings, but if I ate it for breakfast lunch and dinner every day for 179 days I'd get pretty sick of it. That being said, This really isnt something to get defensive about. I like what I hear. Good job.
Tell that to Elvis Presley, Bruce Springsteen, James Brown, Son House, Muddy Waters, Whitney Houston, B.B. King, Bono, Roy Orbison, Stevie Nicks, Aretha Franklin, Freddie Mercury, Michael Jackson, Prince, Harry Nilsson, and Robert Plant.
i know enough to suggest you to take some out i didnt say that using vibrato is a bad thing i was talking about your cover and using them for examples is a copuot they dont always use a lot of vibrato in all their songs so that blows ur example out of the water theres times to use it and times not to and in this song its not calledc for "in my opnion " if u cant take constructive criticism without getting ur panties in a bunch get off youtube .....
Hey man, I got to jam with Tom Keifer on Extreme Makeover on ABC back in 2003. I wanted to do this song with him but he did Don't Know What You Got. Anyway, this is my favorite Cinderella song. You can hit higher notes than I ever could.
