Abraxas1177, that wise man was Nietzsche. Btw, I was just about to message you to say that I admire your comment on free will.

i am in agreement with you here. What they call progress is indeed baffling. I look to my country Italy for some answers. I do believe myself in the values of such culture and tradtion, as long as there is respect and honor amongst us. I do not believe that any country is the best, including mine, but I do believe it has shined a light among others. Also America is unique that though there is diversity, there is no unity. Too many cultures/ethnicities clash. This has created a problem.
maybe... we need not anthropologify non-conscious entities like cells and organisms to that degree to understand the mechanisms and effects of exploitation and discrimination through more powerful/violent nations/civilizations throughout history. But more closer to your point: None thrive on altruism... but on survival through interaction, interdependence, synergy, symbiosis... in anycase: not through willful genocidal acts driven by cultural arrogance and ignorance. harsh words? Past lifes you say? Beautiful voices I have to admit... still (and I'm listening to this piece while writing to you)... kind of an american version of a cantiga don't you think? This looks of hers and letters on the walls that nobody past the Atlantic can really understand? Still, respect, one courtly love,

If the gentle maiden, The most gracious and beautiful, She, with whom I am in love, Desires only to make me happy, Should I not grant her wish? Certainly yes -- for she is the one Who calls me her sweet love -- I could not be happier! Pleasure renews itself in me. I desire no other lover but her — To serve her everywhere Within my power, For good or better, That is my wish.
Love it. Watch Eric. You can see how he's into the music. How can you help being moved? I love his voice and wish it were somewhat more prominent. He seems to think of himself as background more than as an equal part.
Amongst all music showcased on youtube... No two styles draw more praise and critsizm and bitter arguments and comments... Than Classical and Rock n'Roll...
What an enchanting and refined performance! Is is artists such as Sylvia and Eric who delve deeply enough into this marvelous repertoire to unlock its portrayal of the bittersweetness of courtly love. I could almost feel myself in the great hall of a castle in the afterglow of a sumptuous feast as i listened to them. They are sublime!

Beautiful? I do like the luteplaying, although the arrangement for lute is "new" music, not as the original piece. This musical style of this arrangement comes closer to droning folkmusic. And that's obvious NOT what the performers are pretending.
French is a difficult language, for Americans. And that's still too audible.
At the other hand the sound of the soprano has too little refinement in her sound to give this very beautiful music its strenght.
Whoa there! you should have a look at the facsimile of this piece (it is found in MS. Canon. Misc. 213 in Oxford). You may be surprised to see that this arrangement by Asteria is very close to the original manuscript, almost note-for-note. Also, be aware that this is sung in late-medieval french (using the best research available to approximate proper pronunciation), so it is not surprising that it sounds odd to you. About Sylvia's voice, well - everyone is entitled to their own opinion!
I agree with you ecumedejours. Without being a time traveller we cant know whether this would have convinced the Burgundians. I personally think they would have loved it. The singer's early renaissance/late medieval French seems pretty convincing to me!
Yes, and I suppose you think Rossini's William Tell Overture is the theme from The Lone Ranger. You obviously have no taste and are totally incapable of appreciating great music. I pity you. Keep listening to Barry Manilow or whomever you can relate to, and leave the great music for those who understand the spirit of it.
Ah, one almost remembers this beautiful medium of communication and music. The soul smiles and breathes a breath of fresh and ancient air. Thank you both so much. J.Tobia
mois is correct except i feel all is lost and those we do not speak have won so take your joy now and leave this earth at your OWN accord,at 8% of the population it is lost we have been a let down to nature anyway we i cant wait till mankind parts for good so something more worthy can inhabit it.
In another fifty years, all of Europe will have been destroyed by muslims, indians and blacks... and beautiful music like this will have been destroyed, banished from history forever, just as the entire white race will have been.
And all because you were all more afraid of being called 'racist' than of actually being killed...
I believe, signor, that it is time for our nations in Europe to find their own style, architecture, literature and culture again. We could look at the High Middle Ages and the Renaissance (the first golden age of Europe since the Romans) for inspiration.
This is my favorite track by Asteria. Nice to find a video of it. I like the moment at 03:54, when Sylvia gives the camera "the look".

Amongst all music showcased on youtube... No two styles draw more praise and critsizm and bitter arguments and comments... Than Classical and Rock n'Roll...

If only I could find a lute and someone to teach me in to the arts of playing one.

I just talk with François Villon and Charles d'Orléans, and they assure me that they found Sylvia's voice absolutely delicious.

Fantastic Performance. They captured a wonderfully quixotic and somewhat sad feeling in the song. Great Musicianship. Bravo.

In another fifty years, all of Europe will have been destroyed by muslims, indians and blacks... and beautiful music like this will have been destroyed, banished from history forever, just as the entire white race will have been.
And all because you were all more afraid of being called 'racist' than of actually being killed...

These fine artists must be thrilled to perform in this very historic place, because it seems to come through in the soul of their music.

This was music in its highest form! These days are gone, but we will always have this! Well done! We were born 500 years too late!

I believe, signor, that it is time for our nations in Europe to find their own style, architecture, literature and culture again. We could look at the High Middle Ages and the Renaissance (the first golden age of Europe since the Romans) for inspiration.
