  • look the captain its acting like nothing happen at 2:43

  • I wanna experience the same.

  • @MrRazorblade999

    No, you really don't.

  • @Xanadude575 I think you learn to appreciate life more after something like that.

  • applesweeter:

    Or na

  • Amazing landing

  • Lol the pilot says: "LADIES & GENTLEMEN I HOPE YOU ENJOYED OUR UNEVENTFUL FLIGHT"

  • @MysticShaekBK201 That was his usual way of descending xD

  • My Taiwan Visa is from PRC.Most of the equipment and shengen paperwork is China orientated. Saying Taiwan is not similar to China is like saying Wales is diff to Scotland.Taiwan is still struggling to sepersate in many ways.

  • Thank God!

  • @conurelover Boeing > Airbus. an airbus would have fallen apart.

  • @simpsonfan13 Stupid speculation of yours, that is.

  • @conurelover I agree! But I think it's so they don't have to erase of replace the tape every flight :)

  • I wish if any expert could tell me why cannnot there can be a parachute for the passengers.Like suppose a floor of the plane rips open for the passengers and they parachute down. Then the radio collars would give the identity of their stranded position on the ocean or land and send ships and helicopters to rescue them while the plane crashes empty without taking passengers along while it crashes.Something like that ?

  • @acancalan Because you cannot parachute out of an airliner other than if it's flying straight and level, and you have plenty of time. If it can fly straight and level, and you have plenty of time, you don't need to parachute out of it. The number of situations where parachutes could have saved the passengers are extremely few.

  • @acancalan because of the speeds and altitude, there is a better chance of dying trying to jump out, then just staying in the plane and hoping they can land it.

  • 1:23-1:25 a seagull! :D

  • 3:50 "a near-disaster was avoided"

lol.... this narrator is not a near-disaster.

  • dude. those guys use to fly fighter jets for real. If not, they wouldl have been dead.

  • THE CLASSIC 747 RULES, THAT WAS AWSOME

  • @conurelover limited amount of tape in the old systems, and 30 minutes was considered enough at the time for any emergency

  • cnt they put 4 cockpit recorders of every 1 hr recording

  • Don't worry, the plane that was flying for flight CI006 (N4522V), is still alive - flying for Global Peace Ambassadors.

  • @fs10inator It was flying, it is now declared unsafe due to lack of maintenance and is in a hangar in Baja California and is reportedly on the verge of not being salvageable

  • @fs10inator THAT 747 I JUST SAW IT IN TIJUANA, MEXICO

  • It's a Boeing 747SP!

  • An excellent pilot save the almost doomed flight.

  • I noticed most Asian Airlines survive in disasters. Most American or British Airlines plunge or crash. Just like the Philippine Airlines crash. It had a bomb on board and it landed safely.

  • @josef1610 That comment reaches a whole new level of STUPID

  • @josef1610 asians can do anything.

  • @josef1610 Well you know, our country has AWESOME pilots, no offense doubt.

  • @Th3R3alPr0 I KNOW RYT?!?!?!?! :))

  • @josef1610 yeah the Indonesian airlines are just legendary for their outstanding safety records. It's almost as good as some Central African airlines.

  • Well Done China Airlines 006 !

  • It Would be funny if there was a fighter pilo on board so whent hey were pulling g's he would just be sitting there looking out the window praying while everyone else is G-LOC'd LOL

  • Why do we not just put a glass of water somewhere? The water will always be level and doesn't requite electricity

  • @conurelover They could only carry so much tape in the recorders, and the bit at the end is most likely to be relevant in a crash so it's a sensible design tradeoff given the technology of the time. Modern recorders take advantage of advances in data storage and can hold more than 30 minutes.

  • Excellent crew to complement an excellent aircraft.

  • I love the large Boeing 747 :)

  • @conurelover This was in 1985. Certainly limitations of the recorder technology, and usually significant emergencies tended to end pretty much right away for better or for worse.

  • scrooh-tuh-nee

  • Why can't this happen on any of my flights??

  • @Kg277 Why would you want this to happen on your flight?

  • @TubeCentary So break up the monotony and boredom, no pun intended.

  • captain "HO" :D

  • 2:06 "I hope you enjoyed our ah... uneventful flight..." Yeah right.....

  • hey captain hou, you are great

  • lol applause? i belive that pilot cannot hear this to cockpit

  • Ok this is a captivating story but Im bored because this narrator's voice puts me to sleep, I prefer the other narrator.

  • that pilot is a hero of sorts

  • There is one thing I dont understand. HOW THE HELL is it possible on the verge of 20th century for a voice recorder to have only 30 mins capacity???? Is this really possible or arent ACI telling us the truth?

  • 26 years ago today. Luckily everything turned out okay thanks to the pilots!

  • respect to those pilots

  • The pilot was not a bad one, infact he was a quite good one. To stabilise the plane from nose-dive to horizontal in around 1.5 km, and then land without hydraulics and landing gear is no easy feat. @applesweeter, but it puts the plane at substantial risk at a speed of 470 km/hr and attitude of 41,500 km!

  • Comment removed

  • a 747-400 can fly in 2 engines.

  • @applesweeter I have heard of 747's flying (or a controlled glide) on only 1 engine before.

  • @GunsOfThePhoenix

yes, one engine can be helpful for gliding by creating some trust. However, it cannot gain and maintain attitude by just one engines.

  • Seriously, CVRs should be updated

  • he is mr. chow.. lesley chow!!

  • the pilot was absolutely amazing to keep his cool like that. Most people would have been nervous out of their mind.

  • Communist 30 min data recorder or virtual data recorder is intentional. This Capt was Chinese trained, erm doubtful. Only communist members or people in hierarchy are allowed out of the country. They are not the best, however landing a heavy with that much damage is something that most junior pilots would fail in sim and real-time. He was very good in the end. Prob out of wanting to live and natural God given ability rather then training.

  • @Truimphful I think you got confused, China Airlines originates in the Republic of China i.e. Taiwan, not the Communist Mainland China. Proof is on the tail of the plane that has Taiwan's flag painted on it.

  • @calladuz Ok, still don't like airlines not fitting the full deal until the mandated date.

  • @Truimphful Yours is total bullshit of an uninformed ideologist, plain and simple. The Communist thing is a joke as they are from Taiwan, not from mainland China. Sheesh!

  • @Truimphful Very impressive. But did you see the FLAG on the back of the plane? That's the REPUBLIC OF CHINA. AKA - TAIWAN. Capitalist. You're thinking of the PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA. Communist. Learn your damn countries first.

  • LMAO Captin Ho: I hope you enjoyed the unevenful flight.

  • lol uneventful lol

  • only because a engine isnt working the plane shouldnt just fail, a jumbo jet should still be able to fly with 3 or even 2 engines ( one on each side)

  • @dabearswisswe Those jets can fly also with 2 engines on one site or even one out and one in-engine on different sites.

  • @dabearswisswe They can fly with engine failures, it was just in this case that the captain failed to use rudder inputs to maintain level flight before disengaging the autopilot-by that time, the uncontrolled descent was inevitable. It's interesting how the captain both created the disaster AND narrowly recovered from it.

  • only because a engine isnt working the plane shouldnt just fail, a jumbo jet should still be able to fly with 3 or even 2 engines

  • This pilot is one of the best pilots ive ever seen saving all them lives

  • Uneventful?

This guy needs an english lesson PRONTO!

  • That 747 belongs in a museum.

  • @raptors222222 Yeah, a brilliant idea!

  • now thats a pilot who knows what the hell hes doing kudos to him

  • They saved the plane and the passengers. And that is important!

  • That 30 minute loop on the cockpit voice recorder seems like a stupidly limited idea.

  • see his face , captian he had extraorndnry brave..thanks

  • Hats off to the captain. When a plane dives and spins the way it did its near impossible to re-gain control. Awesome work

  • @DavieMurray2010 but im not wearing a hat :(

  • It's a show for the Alseimer.....They keep doing recaps! lol

  • @surfexp That's due to the advert breaks in the full thing.

    Hats off to that pilot!

  • hey you know that aircraft is now owned by the global peace initiative...

  • Hope you enjoyed our...UNEVENTFUL Flight....perfect and fitting announcement XD

  • @homer30 no because the balance of the airplane is controlled by hydraulic fluids for balancing

  • when they noticed that engine 4 failed to work, would it be better to shot down engine 1 and have engine 2 and 3 run so as to balance the airplane again?

  • I wonder .. how long it took for those passangers to take another Flight after that event .. haha , I would have never used a plane again if i was one of them..

  • thumbs up for the pilot!

  • Amazing pilot...

  • @skd101589 Agree Amazing Pilot !

  • I Love You Captian Ho!!! :D

  • I wonder if any1 was on the toilet at the time? because they would have been splattered with shit if they were.

  • 1985 was the worst year in aviation history... lucky this flight didnt add to the fatality list

  • @l7ebels Yeah. On the bright side, we've learned from the mistakes.

  • @l7ebels Thats d year I was born!!!! :l

  • @vyazz So you're 35 Years old?

  • @Th3R3alPr0 ........nope!!...25!!

  • I hope you enjoyed our...... Something, something, something..... Unevetfull.

  • best captain i ever seen

  • Boeing 747SP- You got pwned by Captain Ho!

  • i havent watched the whole vid yet so dont be all pissed if this is wat he dose i think he should land it with the throttle

  • CLARIFICATION.... "elevator" like "wing" is typically singular for a given aircraft. If you're referring to more than one aircraft, it's plural. This is arguably splitting hairs, but it's a technical production which uses and explains a lot of terminology and design, and should have been edited more carefully by those with an aviation background.

  • 13sec into this video the narrator refers to the "rear elevators" which is misleading. The 747 has just ONE horizontal stabilizer and elevator (contrasting with the Piaggio Avanti, for example) that is, indeed in the rear. "Elevator" like "wing" is singular, unless referring to more than one. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than myself can clarify further. Although a good production, ACI writers and directors appear to have backgrounds OTHER than aviation.

  • GO CAPTIAN HO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • why do i feel like i'm one of them? this gives me a whole new idea of flying!

  • yall aint got nothin on capt. Ho bitches

  • 2:05 that was really homoerotically weird...

  • If you look at 0:50 you'll see that the scenery is flat.

  • the pilot was obviously a seat of the pants pilot who was trained very well. he knew what to do exactly when he saw he could do it. the natural pilot can do that in an instant. the mechanical pilot can do it in an instant plus one second. good on that pilot and all his crew.

  • 6:25 PC monitor with the Bios setup utility in the background!

  • im also piolt

  • thankyou for flying china airlines, our aircraft maintenance personal also thankyou. feel confident to fly our highly maintained aircraft anytime.

  • all praise to the pilot he carried the day.

  • Safer than traveling by car MY ASS!!

  • amazing landing!

  • the cabin crew will now hand out toilet tissue. lol.

  • fuckin satisfying

  • Hey why did the guy say' cause of the accident'? the plane did not crash

  • @zoominguy The cause of the problem would be more accurate.

  • the pilot and his officers deserve a medal and a BIG raise

  • I would have PTSD just doing the re-creation for this doc.

  • This captain IS a hero. As an instrument pilot, being in the soup and wholesale out of control and keeping one's composure takes guts i'm not sure I'VE got!!

  • That's one HELL of a pilot!!!

  • This fucking fat Seksan Caniyo n his friend must be gay

  • I hope you enjoyed our...

  • man china air really does not have the safest record. But it sure has damn good pilots!

  • @RespectTheSky Not China. China Airlines is from Taiwan. Check it at Wikipedia

  • At least the Captain got them out of trouble

  • "i hope you enjoyed our uneventful flight" LOL

the captain has a sense of humor :D xx

  • omg !!!

This guy wants to be awarded the upmost congratulations ever.He stayed calm and he new what he had to do

    well done Captain!!

    "claps "

i would have just run to you and hugged you

    there is a god =))))))))))))))))))))))))))

  • shit dude, why still 30 mins recording in cvr. tech. fail!!

  • what an amazing pilot

  • @dave0272 I would be Proud to have him as the captain of any plane I am on!

  • It's eerily similar to what caused Eastern 401 years ago, pilots got distracted on one problem and the whole crew were unable to divert attention to controlling the plane. But lessons learned from back then showed in pilot training today and saved the plane from striking the sea

  • No they didnt save the plane. Eastern 401 began its accidental descent from 2000ft and descended gradually so that nobody on board could feel the aircraft descending. When the flight crew noticed the altitude (200ft) and attempted to go around, it was too late. This flight rolled into a steep dive from 41,000 feet and everyone on board was aware it was descending. Both were a result of pilots failure to fly the plane while busy trying to fix a problem.

  • @fightingtemeraire

    Hey there!

This is China 006 into LAX.

Post your comment on Eastern Blog if you may?

  • The pilot may have caused this emergency, but not many pilots would have been able to recover and land as this pilot did. The cockpit voice recorder needs to be able to record in a loop when all is going well, and record until landing or crashing during an emergency. This way valuable voice data isn't lost during a prolonged emergency.

  • well done captain hats of

  • the flight attendant should be the most injured

  • the pilot saved the plane and passegers and crew so i don't think he's horrible. i don't think many people could take control of a spinnin' dead weight

  • @fokkerxtreme Agreed!

  • @fokkerxtreme Good

  • @rmdevotion but atleast he saved the plane and no one died

  • @rmdevotion all humans make errors.

But only an exceptional pilot could make such very human errors and stil save the plane.

  • I hope you enjoyed.......our uneventful flight. That captain was good but if this was his idea of an uneventful flight, I'm not flying with this guy.

  • Surely he meant "an eventful flight"

  • maybe making a joke?

    thought it was weird too...

  • @Darthbelal Humour?

  • This captain is a genuis!

  • If he was a genius he wouldn't have tried restarting the engine when the plane was so high

  • nor would he have considered continuing the flight on it's previous route!

  • you right but considering he disengage the auto pilot and keep the aircraft saftely, he s a good pilot. many bad pilots trust so much on the auto pilot

  • @jerarbel Funny you say that, because the entire cause of the crash was the pilot's misuse of the autopilot after the engine failure. He assumed the autopilot could handle the situation by itself, but it couldn't - he needed to assist it by applying rudder manually. In fact, disengaging the autopilot when he did was his single worst decision. He should have applied rudder first to correct the bank angle.

  • Comment removed

  • @jerarbel the auto pilot is only as good as its makers.

  • This particular Aircraft is still sitting in Tijuana awaiting a new owner. It was sold some time after this incident and is owned by an organization called Global Peace Ambassadors. However apparently it has not flown for a few years.

  • yes it's here at tijuana airport and it seems it will not fly ever again, it need a huge maintenace work

  • One question. Why does that plane have an American registeration number?

  • It may have been manufactured in America. I'm no expert in aviation, and do not know how numbers are assigned, but that's my guess.

  • it was... it was a boeing 747 BUT boeing has one of the highest safety records and the problem had nothing to do with the manufacturer, it was the pilot's eror

  • Because the plane was lent by Wilmington Trust Company wich is based in the Delaware (America) in 1985

sorry for my bad english ;)

  • oh ok.

  • I dont get it.. they say they plane was absolutely fine, it was a pilot mistake , OK.. but then why did the engine 4 flame out in the first place?

  • Why do so many people take the p*ss when watching videos like this?

The Captain and his crew did their jobs - well by the look of this reconstruction - but still the cracks about China and its safety attitude etc. Try to remeber, China is STILL a partly closed, communist nation and unlike the affluent(!?) west, has very few real friends around the globe!

Cut them a bit of slack guys, eh?

  • China Airlines is from Taiwan.

  • And your point is?

  • what is the word "Rojer" they using when talking pilot and atc.

  • 'Roger' is an acknowledgement of a received message.
