Oh wow, that was beautiful. The geisha are so goregous, I have my own kimono (and yes,as a westerner I CAN properly put it on and wear it) and decked out in my best I can't even compare. It's too bad there's nowhere around here that teaches traditional Japanese dance or shamisen, I'd love to learn it
very nice but where is the mame-maki? Was this Setsubun? I imagine there must have been a lot of people there to see geisha and maiko perform. I recognize one or two them from the Kamogawa Odori in my playlist.
Did you mean Kitano odori? Those are maiko and geiko from Kamishichiken (Kamishichiken's dances are called Kitano Odori. Pontocho geiko and maiko perform at Kamogawa odori.
If that is indeed Naozome in the purple, then she has become my favorite maiko/geisha.
Her dancing is the best I've seen by far. That down feather gentleness and grace, that seamless coordination of hands, arms, neck, torso turns, glances --phenomenal.
sorry i wrote wrong in the first part, there is two umeha one in kamishichiken and gion higashi. umeha fron gion higashi is not a geiko, she is an maiko, it is umeha from kamishichiken who is a geiko. by the can someone tell me who is in the green hikizuri and who is in the purple
the first maiko(shes a geiko now) that steps in is umeha. the maiko in the green kimono looks like ichimame( if it is her. what is she doing there, she from kamishichiken, not gion higashi). the one in the purple i don't know who is. the maiko in the blue kimono/hikizuri is kanoaki
I always wish I could understand what they are singing about

very very true, ichiteru in the light blue reminds me of how Sayuri in memiors SHOULD have looked.

Yeah. The movie was so innacurate for the dances and the costume.
