@andrewrunagall the point is to show that the AV top loader does indeed exist. opening it up shows the internals in detail, and playing games on it shows that it works and doesn't have that ugly vertical line down the screen. you will not find this for sale at a store.
Yes, the toploading NES 2 does exist, it's not exactly rare, but they are hard to come by as it is an 18 year old model. (So it will be possible to buy from a store, it'll just be a lucky find)
A quick look up on Wikipedia will provide any info for the NES 2 if there is anyone out there who are still curious about it.
Tell you what you might like to watch, try the "NES Accessories" episode from the Angry Video Game Nerd, it's not all the accessories but an interesting video
@AlirazaVideoGames OK, I did a little research, and how do we know that you didn't use a RCA cable that was used for the SNES (pronounced S. N. E. S. or Super N. E. S. not Essness), N64 (pronounced N. Sixty-Four) and the GameCube (pronounced Game Cube)?
Sorry to go that way, but you sound so aggressive saying that I do not know something, it's as if you're trying to prove that you know more about Nintendo than everyone else, that's not what gaming is about.
this is the revised model that nintendo sent out to people who had bought the top loader and had issues with the video not working properly. but it is a rare find indeed.
@bangulo2012 That was only a problem with the front loader. It rarely had anything to do with dirty connectors, No matter WTF Nintendo tried to tell us; we got flashing screens because the connector pins bent easily when the cart was pushed into position.
You got lucky, it's not easy to find a top loader with an av out. Got the usual top loader with rf only which also uses a poor video output so theres faint lines on the video output. On the plus I only paid $20 for it with some games 2 controllers and a light gun.
NES - SKEPROM-01" peek any interests of yours? I have uncovered a cartridge simply labeled "Ninja" which turns out to be a working (dare I say) Prototype. Shoot me a message if you are curious.
@AlirazaVideoGames The NES TopLoader is able to play any region NES games. Even European. I'm not quite sure about Japanese though because of the size of the cartridge. But since you dismantled the thing you might be able to just stick it on there.
@multisynched You most likely have a top loader with the rf adapter. The top loaders with the colored av outs were extremely rare, and only provide by Nintendo as replacements when the normal top loaders broke. Very rare to have that particular one.
At launch they were seriously not rare at all. Most of them probably ended up in landfills, leading to the rarity today, but those things sat on the shelves of my local Toys R Us for at least 4 years. At LEAST.
Also, what the fuck is an ess-nes? It's SNES, douchebag.
@machine134 He made it to show that there were at least a few NES 2s with an AV out connection in the back, as opposed to the standard RF out that most top-loaders have. I think it's idiotic that the AV out wasn't standard on them, as it's much more reliable.

though, it would be cool if you could incorp that as a deck in your computer... but i guess you would have to play with the cartridge outlet to make it fit... but still obsolete... there is no point to doing this.
Of course this isn't a hack or a fake, it's well documented that Nintendo produced this model as a replacement to anyone who sent in their original NES 2 due to poor video quality with the RF adapter. The original NES 2 top loader came packed with the RF switch, which was really not that hard to find in at the time of release, but the RF adapter didn't work well, so Nintendo manufactured a revised model that used the AC cables instead and sent them out as replacements. The box was misprinted.
Actually, the 10NES lockout chip was removed when they made the Control Deck (or Top Loader, however you call it). It was considered one of the hardware flaws of the original NES.
I was extremely fortunate to get my hands on this Nintendo model last year. I got it on eBay for about $90, plus I got an NES Max Controller with it! This model is the most convenient with its small, compact build and top-loading function!
First, to readers: this AV-based top-loader is 100% manufactured by Nintendo. Normal top-loaders are uncommon (but not rare), but those with the SNES-style AV-out port are SUPER rare: they don't suffer from the "vertical banding" problem that the non-AV-out models do.
That said: we on the nesdev forum would love to get our hands on the unit you have. We need one to reverse-engineer the video circuitry to learn how to repair/fix the "banding" problem on the non-AV models! Please help us!
@acbeta1 it is called a "security bit" and it comes in various sizes to open up nes carts and nes decks. same goes for snes, genny, and other systems and carts
@acbeta1 I've seen videos of guys using Bic pens to take those type of screws out. Take the Nib and ink piece straight out and use the hollow tube and apply pressure to the screw and Voila!
Made in 1994? Those were the golden years of the Super Nintendo, the NES was discontinued a couple of years before 1994, but it do looks real, I mean, a toploader for USA, toploaders were more common in Japan's Famicon
@gamereviewerbr : the NES was discontinued in 1995, and the Japanese equivalent was discontinued in 2003. This makes it the console that has been sold for the longest time. Something made the NES stay interesting well after its technology became old. I think that the white NES-101 was discontinued very quickly, even before the classic grey NES-001.
@Nazrat84 because i am not a "collector." i actually use everything i own in my home. taking it apart and showing the insides, using it to play games is how i use it. i am going to die one day. all my possessions will be useless to me. i rather enjoy my life using my things than simply hoarding them.
@AlirazaVideoGames Word the fucking mother! I will never understand all those collectors who got a ton of cool stuff but dont use it - or even leave it in shrink wrap. Its just beyond me. Very nice video, thanks a lot for it!
@AlirazaVideoGames You do realize that it's also potentially useful as a way to make income as well, right? I mean, if it's THAT rare, you're looking at big sums of cash that can be used to fund other adventures/pay bills and get out of financial ruts. You never know, some collectors or museums would really love one too.
@AlirazaVideoGames You are correct the AV top loaders are EXTREMELY rare. Essentially nintendo did that close to the end of the NES life because of video quality complaints. There are no production numbers listed either but I would guess less than 100 easy. Also top loaders don't have lockout chip to my knowledge. Nice find though man I actually jealous lol.
Interesting.. I've heard that these were replacement boards for consoles that were sent into Nintendo by people complaining of the lines visible through the original RF output. Perhaps there were a few of these A/V units sold before the NES was done, since obviously Nintendo had these boards on hand.
I'm truly amazed that people don't get what makes this console special.
Folks, The NES top loader is a sought after game console. it was believed that it only came with the RF output. this one with the video output is something most gamers have never seen. it's production date of 1994 is something else too. I thought this console was only manufactured in 1993.
Actually, it's rare because it was believed that this model of the NES only came with the RF output. this one with the video output is something most gamers have never seen.
Can you explain why yours is different? I watched the entire video and since I have no idea about production specifics or anything I have no idea why its rare.
Uh people... There's actually some truth to what he's saying and I believe that you CAN'T know if the AVGN has the same model since you never see the back of it in any video. From wiki: These versions were replacements for those who sent their original NES-101 systems to Nintendo with a poor quality video complaint. These models are extremely rare as they all came as replacement units from Nintendo, but some claim that the revised AV model was in stores near the end of its lifespan.
This makes no sense what so ever what is different from yours than mine? I bought mine back in 1992, at Big Wheel in Rhode Island and ours are identical.
@doinstupistuffs YES i actually did think that and followed up on it. i also owned the grey nintendo world championships 1990 cartridge in 2002 and took that apart and took detailed pics of it to post to message boards. i then sold it off. the whole point of collecting anything is to show it to others by sharing. just the outside isn't enough. best to see it all entirely.
At first I thought "hey mabye he's got some sort of extra feature or misprint or miscolour" and watched through the entire video but this is, in fact the exact same model owned by AVGN. Yes they were in limited demand and are very exspensive and rare but there is no difference between this one and the others made by this.
@BurittoSandwich He has a toploader which isn't all that easy to find, but there's two versions, one with the RF only, and one with the RCA/AV outputs which is what this guy has. I got my toploader for $80.
@Galactis it's not an official release. that's the point of this vid. that nintendo developed this and released this in limited quantities in-house. anyone can create a custom system and yes it is rare in that regard.
You're correct. but there are less of this model than any other. the top loader was not in production long and was originally sold with the RF only. I've heard that the upgrade was only given to those who sent it in to nintendo with Audio/video problems.
Personally, I've been in the used game business for 12 years and have not gotten a single one in the store. I don't know how many there are out there. but I'd estimate that it's only in the thousands.
Cool, send pics showing the system and it's AV output and I'm sure many of us would be more than glad to buy it. But chances are, yours has the RF output and is the common version of the console.
oh ok, so if you got your hands on a mint, nintendo world championships gold cart you would take it apart for us and show us whats inside. some idiot i believe took apart a magnavox odyssey. who in living hell would do that? nobody really wants to see the inside, just maybe a few facts we didnt know
It's not like it will hurt the console/game. recently, my friend and I took apart his Atari 2600 Pink Panther prototype cart to look at it's chip. the game is worth about 5K. No big deal. sometimes it's the only way to know if a cart is official.
@97Retrogamenerd There was actually a tv show saying that the ones that were NES-001 on the serial num it's worth 1300$ cuz it's one of the first shipment of nes systems in the usa. I ALSO GOT IT FOR FREE.
The NES-001 is incredibly common. there are tens of millions of them. it's the model number on all of the front loading NES consoles.
The show they said that on was Storage Wars. the guy made himself look really stupid.
This rumor (about the 001) started in 2010 when an NES-001 was put up for auction and sold for $13,500. But, It only sold for such a high price because it had a copy of Stadium events with it. The console had nothing to do with it.
Rarest NES? Lets disassemble it!! ._.

Folks, The NES top loader is a sought after game console. it was believed that it only came with the RF output. this one with the video output is something most gamers have never seen. it's production date of 1994 is something else too. I thought this console was only manufactured in 1993.
This is a fantastic collectible.

I dont know why this Nintendo Top Loader is so special!!
Someone explain me!
luisjr1611 1 month ago
@luisjr1611 Because it has a mono AV cable instead of an RF switch. Even the box says RF switch.
NucularRobit 1 month ago
This is only rare because it was sold late, where nobody cared about the NES anymore.
Kinda like the newer SNES.
piratesephiroth 1 month ago
@piratesephiroth
Actually, it's rare because it was believed that this model of the NES only came with the RF output. this one with the video output is something most gamers have never seen.

people come on its modded

I prefer the bricks to the dogbones, but I do think the SNES is the best controller ever made, it just doesn't feel right while playing NES games.
Travesty7007 1 month ago
Can you explain why yours is different? I watched the entire video and since I have no idea about production specifics or anything I have no idea why its rare.
Composedpianomusic 1 month ago
I grew up with frontloader, its better
MrTriplexi 1 month ago
What is rare in this console? I only see a Nes Jr...
joseluki 1 month ago
Uh people... There's actually some truth to what he's saying and I believe that you CAN'T know if the AVGN has the same model since you never see the back of it in any video. From wiki: These versions were replacements for those who sent their original NES-101 systems to Nintendo with a poor quality video complaint. These models are extremely rare as they all came as replacement units from Nintendo, but some claim that the revised AV model was in stores near the end of its lifespan.

@winnetouch
Thank you. That clarifies it.
MrCorporalTunnel 1 month ago
This makes no sense what so ever what is different from yours than mine? I bought mine back in 1992, at Big Wheel in Rhode Island and ours are identical.
Explains how yours is different.
Princejarethh 1 month ago
@Princejarethh
I'm amazed you bought yours in 1992 when the top loader wasn't released until 1993.
It's rare because of the video output.

when you found out it was rare did you think this: OMG!!!!!! I have have a extremely rare NES!!!!!! I should take it apart!!!!!!
doinstupistuffs 1 month ago
@doinstupistuffs YES i actually did think that and followed up on it. i also owned the grey nintendo world championships 1990 cartridge in 2002 and took that apart and took detailed pics of it to post to message boards. i then sold it off. the whole point of collecting anything is to show it to others by sharing. just the outside isn't enough. best to see it all entirely.
AlirazaVideoGames 1 month ago 2
At first I thought "hey mabye he's got some sort of extra feature or misprint or miscolour" and watched through the entire video but this is, in fact the exact same model owned by AVGN. Yes they were in limited demand and are very exspensive and rare but there is no difference between this one and the others made by this.

if its soooo rare then how come the angry video game nerd also has one?????
explain hoe
BurittoSandwich 1 month ago
@BurittoSandwich he doesn't. there's nothing to explain. you would understand this clearly had you actually watched the entire video.
AlirazaVideoGames 1 month ago
@BurittoSandwich He has a toploader which isn't all that easy to find, but there's two versions, one with the RF only, and one with the RCA/AV outputs which is what this guy has. I got my toploader for $80.
Doommaster1994 1 month ago
@BurittoSandwich AVGN has an even more rare NES Game system...the NES Toaster.
Galactis 1 month ago
@Galactis it's not an official release. that's the point of this vid. that nintendo developed this and released this in limited quantities in-house. anyone can create a custom system and yes it is rare in that regard.
AlirazaVideoGames 1 month ago
@AlirazaVideoGames I was being sarcastic.
Galactis 1 month ago
@Galactis everyone can do it just get a toaster and a NES open its remove the mother and mod it into the toaster.
micrill50 1 month ago
This is nowhere NEAR rare, I see them in used game stores all the time (often with the original box). Those Sharp NES/TV combos, now THOSE are rare.
What part of the world do you live in, that you did not find this until 2009?
MilwaukeeJAK 1 month ago
@MilwaukeeJAK:
this model has an AV-output the regular toploaders only have RF-output thats what makes it special, mkay??
0M9H4X 1 month ago
@MilwaukeeJAK
This console is VERY rare. the NES top loader is not all that uncommon. but this one with the AV output is indeed an incredibly collectible console.

@L1Games
How much was the production run? They don't fire up the line without building more than a few unless it's a prototype, which I doubt.
MrCorporalTunnel 1 month ago
@MrCorporalTunnel
L1Games 1 month ago
umm I have the exact thing at home :S big whoop.
Guitarist500 1 month ago
@Guitarist500
Cool, send pics showing the system and it's AV output and I'm sure many of us would be more than glad to buy it. But chances are, yours has the RF output and is the common version of the console.

um, the ds and vita use solid state games...

Wait, explain to me, why does it not have the vertical lines?
GoNinty 1 month ago
i got a toploader myself, it doesnt have the thing you have but its still mint condition and i got it with 25 games for 30$. not that bad eh?
97Retrogamenerd 1 month ago
oh ok, so if you got your hands on a mint, nintendo world championships gold cart you would take it apart for us and show us whats inside. some idiot i believe took apart a magnavox odyssey. who in living hell would do that? nobody really wants to see the inside, just maybe a few facts we didnt know
97Retrogamenerd 1 month ago
@97Retrogamenerd
It's not like it will hurt the console/game. recently, my friend and I took apart his Atari 2600 Pink Panther prototype cart to look at it's chip. the game is worth about 5K. No big deal. sometimes it's the only way to know if a cart is official.

so your saying my NES-001 1300$ nes is NOT rare AT ALL!?!
clawproductionDX 1 month ago
@clawproductionDX oh yea like it would be 1300$, did you value at that or did you buy it at that?
97Retrogamenerd 1 month ago
@97Retrogamenerd There was actually a tv show saying that the ones that were NES-001 on the serial num it's worth 1300$ cuz it's one of the first shipment of nes systems in the usa. I ALSO GOT IT FOR FREE.
clawproductionDX 1 month ago
@clawproductionDX
