Sorry, but a 46 year old having sex with a 16 year old is no more wrong than a 18 year old. All of the laws on sexuality are fundamentally contrary to human nature. Sex is neither intrinsically harmful or wrong, unlike this sexism and ageism. All the current sexual laws need to be scrapped in favor of laws that focus on actual abuse, and the socially acceptable age limit for sex needs to be returned to 8 when sexual development begins as it was for all of human history up to the present.

I don´t get why the US is so obsessed at this. In Austria sex is legal for teens 14 or older except of one scenario. If an 14 or 15 year old has sex with a person 18 or older, the older one can be brought to court but can be punished but only if there is proof that the 14 or 15 year old was mentally not ready for sex and the partner exploited this. In addition sex for 13 year olds is legal if the partner is not more than 3 years older. The law applies equaly for strait and gay people.
At the end of the day, an 18 year old having sex with an under 18 year old is against the law. I don't agree with it either and it's a shame that young men get prosecuted but them having sex with someone under the age of consent is breaking the law and is therefore illegal and is probable cause for arrest. So don't complain and say that judges should be more lenient, either bring down the age of consent or accept it.

I see him and Mary every Friday because he DJs. He was actually 12 but he was 13 when they had the first child. Mary was 33 at the time. She was sent to prison but was later released on parole to get treatment.

@AlexTackaberry Hmm I think its right to draw the line somewhere, but we need to take a step back and make sure we know where that line is. Simple personal opinions shouldn't make the rules. It should be something based more on fact. Like for example both individuals should have entered puberty (which I believe would be a fairly good rule as this is the stage when a child's body matures into an adult body). Whether or not someone has entered puberty is not up to opinion, it can be observed.
Where I live, the age of consent is 16. Also, 14 and 15 year olds can consent to sexual activity with people less than 5 years older than them, and 12-13 year olds can consent to sexual activity with someone less than 2 years older.
I think it should be @least a nation-wide in-high school 3 year gap rule. Where long as the students r in high school sex within that 3 year gap is ok.

i was pointing at the inconsistency of the arguments, not the various application of the law. if sexual activity is considered harmful to the teen, it is harmful whether it's with an 18 year old or an 80 year old. if the teen can't consent to having sex at a specific age, the teen can't consent to having sex whether it's with an 18 or an 80 year old. "yuck factor" isn't a good benchmark for legislation and enforcement of laws.

Yeah, I almost had this happen to me when I was younger. In high school I was dating this girl who was a year and a half younger than me. We started dating when she was 15 and I was sixteen. I turned 17, some shit happened between us and her parents threatened to file charges against me (in Kentucky sex between a 17 and 15 year old is considered "Sexual Misconduct", not as severe as statutory rape). the age of consent in Pennsylvania is 16. But, if you are within 4 years of the each other (and over 12) then it is perfectly legal. Other states should adopt this plan.

It should be something based more on fact. Like for example both individuals should have entered puberty (which I believe would be a fairly good rule as this is the stage when a child's body matures into an adult body). Whether or not someone has entered puberty is not up to opinion, it can be observed.

i was pointing at the inconsistency of the arguments, not the various application of the law. if sexual activity is considered harmful to the teen, it is harmful whether it's with an 18 year old or an 80 year old. if the teen can't consent to having sex at a specific age, the teen can't consent to having sex whether it's with an 18 or an 80 year old. "yuck factor" isn't a good benchmark for legislation and enforcement of laws.

But in my case i was sexually active when i was 12 and did not have my first child till i turned 23. I was aware of the responsibility that comes with sex so I took it very serious. @TruthatCearcie So basically I believe if teens looked at sex as more of a risk factor rather than pleasure, we would have less teen pregnancy and more responsible young adults. But I do understand where you are coming from. This subject is very hard to find a happy medium (if there is even one).

@bhodges75 Good luck trying to have teens look at sex as a risk factor instead of a pleasurable act. There are proven methods to decrease teen pregnancy and S.T.D rates, teach safe sex and allow them access to condoms/birth control. Because of the ignorant Christians in this country we instead teach abstinence programs (which have been conclusively shown to not work in the least) and withhold access to condoms/birth control to avert them from sex. Teens are gonna screw, lets make sure it's safe.

@bhodges75 Well I wouldn't say that. Sex is great fun, and if you're having sex than you should go out of your way to make sure everybody has a great time. I just think responsible adults should be having it, not kids who can't vote or fight and possibly die for their country/beliefs. I was a high school student and a horny little devil but I was not irresponsible. Sex is a physical expression of an emotional and psychological state, so it is not about risk, it is about responsibly to everybody

16's legal in Canada, so woot. Also if you're within 5 years to a minimum of 14. So a 19 year old can sleep with a 14 year old. Knowing age of consent laws is very, very important.

the age of consent in Pennsylvania is 16. But, if you are within 4 years of the each other (and over 12) then it is perfectly legal. Other states should adopt this plan.
