I live in Toronto, Canada. I got tumbi's at home, but I don't know how to play it. My grandfather gave it to me when he came back from Punjab, so I really want to learn how to play it. Please let me know if you give lessons as well! Thanks.

well I'm trying to develop an easier language to teach for the tumbi. people have been using 0's and 1's, but it's too simplistic, so i will develop one to teach with.

how do you tune a tumbi? What note should it be playing when you are not pushing down on the string with any fingers?

you can tune it to whatever you want as long as it sounds in key.

listen i tried playing tumbi over a-slam - charcha. and although i only did simple stuff over it, it still sounded good. you should give it a go since you're an expert at it (Y)

i purchased my tumbi in toronto from a store called House of Raga.

all you need to keep in mind when purchasing is that the tumbi should be made of kadhu (gourd). coconut and metal are too hard to vibrate nicely. doesn't matter where you buy from. just make sure it sounds nice

i occasionally snap the wire, how can i fix it? Thanks! P.S when I use my fingers to push down on the string, it makes a muffled sound?

what do u mean by snapping the wire? does it break or does it just come lose?

when you use your fingers it makes a muffled sound because your skin absorbs much of the vibration.
