I found nothing about this ad homophobic in the least. Ruccolo's straight, and the "character" idea for Ruccolo is that he comes on too strong. Even the suggestion that this ad's homophobic is silly.
Please visit my channel for the unpopular truth about homosexuality.
A person does not need hatred or any kind of phobia in order to acknowledge important differences between heterosexuality and homosexuality. Even non-religious people know this.
The homosexual agenda is not good for anyone, including those who consider themselves "gay".
Homosexual activists, with support from the media, have successfuly framed themselves as noble victims; it's an effective way to push a social agenda.
I'm not sure I'd call this "homophobic", but it certainly is playing up on the stereotype of what a "real man" is "supposed to be". It's the same old socialization of stereotypical gender roles that many people still have ingrained into them practically from brith -- men are supposed to be macho, unemotional, rugged, and sports-minded. Women are supposed to be -- quiet, meek, emotional, soft, and home-minded. Reality is that we're all different, and those differences shoult be accepted.
Gay marriage already exists, and it isn't going away. Can you list the "problems" created in Massachusetts since gay marriage equality was implemented? If it's so terrible, please tell us in detail HOW TERRIBLE by that example? Can you? Are your sources showing it was a bad mistake? How? Please explain.
I know you can't, because it hasn't. Am I right? Then you have no BAD examples to warn us about gay marriage equality. In other words: Your artificial anti-gay crusade is about HATE.
"Homophobic" is the new word that makes do nothing liberals feel good about themselves as they call normal people this for being normal. They FORCE their ideas on people who do not believe as they do and then shame and attempt to ostracize those who do not believe as they do ... and they rag on religion for this? Hypocrites, the lot of them.
"Marriage is the union of two different surnames, in friendship and in love, in order to continue the posterity of the former sages, and to furnish those who shall preside at the sacrifices to heaven and earth, at those in the ancestral temple, and at those at the altars to the spirits of the land and grain."
Nope, nothing homophobic I can see. I know homophobia exists but I think we are getting a little sensitive here. I mean they billed him as the only other guy on the network. I took it more as he was excited to have another man around, not as he was hitting on him. Honestly, we ( yes I meant WE ) have to stop calling EVERYTHING homophobic.
@hbfarker - I understand where you're coming from on this. While it may not be actively or obviously homophobic, there's still a lot of negative implication going on. Such as: it's "suspicioius" that one man is so excited about being friends with another man - straight men shouldn't be too excited to make friends/hang out. If they are, then their sexuality is called into question. Basically, it's the twin to homophobia: cultural anxiety about masculinity. So yeah, you're on the right track.
@demolitionwoman75 Not even remotely homophobic, IMO. It would be if the straight guy were disgusted or pissed, but it's not the case. His reaction was akin to any gay man declining a woman or any woman declining a man.
some people take homophobia too far... what is homophobic is how the feminist movement promotes gay men to act like women... my boyfriend and I act more like the trainer and we hate shopping and hanging out with whiny chicks...
so the only homophobic thing I can think of is stereotyping the gay man to act like a raging flamer, but aside from that, which is socially acceptable and promoted by most gay people even, the other dude just wasn't interested. What are men doing on lifetime??
Uh, sorry, I don't understand at ALL what the feminist movement has to do with the stereotype of gay men acting feminine. The two things have very little to do with each other, honestly.
Do you just hate women? That's the vibe I'm getting here.
I don't think it's homophobic. The other guy isn't attracted to men, and the gay guy didn't make it clear he wanted to go out with this man, so he couldn't flat out just say "I'm not gay" or "I don't like you that way" because on the chance the other one wasn't guy, he could offend him. I think he probably handled it in the best way possible. And the gay dude should've made his intentions more clear instead of trying to pretend he was straight. I thought the gay man's misguided attempt (cont.)
Sorry, no homophobia. Just two really cute men talking. Richard Ruccolo acting a little dorky and Jesse not interested in hanging out. Which is fine because I would spend all night making Richard feel better. Oops! I'm a gay man and I wrote that. Was is also homophobic?
I'm gay and I didn't find the ad homophobic. I know Jesse a little and he is an incredibly friendly, open, positive person who is pleasant personable with everyone -- male, female, gay, straight. The joke here, as I see It, is that "average guy" Richard is trying to buddy up with hunk Jesse to help his own image. Not all that funny an ad but not offensive.
If I see Jessie!! the last thing in the world Im going to do is talk to him XD I run quickly to his arms and kiss him like never did in my entire life XD Ahhhhhh
Whatever sexual orientation he has is unimportant to me until he is actually in my bed. Then I'll worry about break ins, someone kidnapping him or TV reporters..We DO want to keep it secret in the event he was gay...Alas!!! he is as heterosexual as the day is long....I know for sure.
Yeah just the stereo typical straight guy who is hot and cool, and the nerdy preppy gay guy who is querky and not cool, oh well we still have a long way to go.
It's a rather inept valentine's "joke" that doesn't work; not phobic, not offensive, just silly. i don't think JP would be crazy enough to embrace homophobia, he knows who his fans are! (unlike that jerk Curtis Stome on TLC's Take Home Chef, who falls over himself to prove how str8 he is)
There was nothing homophobic about this ad. He said, and I quote "Man Date" that's between 2 straight men, as is a "Bromance". I myself am gay and did not find it insulting at all. In fact most of the jokes were about Richard(?)
The title to this vid is just another little spark to start a fire that has no business being lit.
Nah, not homophobic, just a celebration and continuation of Lifetime's new found hottness, JESSIE PAVELKA. We all want our chance with him, whether it be men, women, gay, straight, fat or in shape. Jessie simply rocks!!
after seeing a majority of the lifetime ads Jessie is pretty much an ass to everyone he stars in an ad with. He's just probably only into people like himself and there's nothing wrong with that.
guyteeve, Jessie Pavelka is not an ass, he's the most down-to-Earth, nicest guy out there. He loves and appreciates his fans from all walks of life. Remember that he's only acting in these silly promos for Lifetime (that someone else had written). It's basically just fun.
The spot is not as bad as you think . True Richard tries to connect with Jessie but his reaction isn't uncomfortable but confused and he walks away mocking Richard's attempt to be macho !! It's all in good fun for them being the only two guys on an all woman network !! That's the catch .
I agree. It's more of a joke on Richard not being as much in shape as the other dude. There's always the straight guy thats a bit geekier. Though Richard is still hot. I miss two guys when I see him or Ryan reynolds or Traylor Howard

@darthspeaks,
So only straight conservatives are "normal" people? Talk about hypocrisy. Your comment reeks of bigotry and projecting onto others your own faults.
