@huggybear603 thank you so much huggybear603, i been hearin that song for years when i first hear grambling play in on some video for calordro crush thing. then i hear jsu playin i much better version of the song. thank you, i am deep indebted to you
This bring back some good memories, who ever said in an earlier posting we were more than band but a family, how true. Today's Boom does not even come close to what was on the field that rainy night. this brought tears to my eyes. This was my Crab year in the Boom. Against FAMU in tallahassee....it rained BUCKETS!! i was the one who slipped and flipped during the Tiger Run-on....
OH HOW I LOVE YOU !!!! I lived 4 blocks away from the school on Biloxi Street and you guys had a sound that could not be beat. If I was there watching you practice I could sit on my front porch with my friends and just listen as if I was there and see every move that you made. It was Great.I had so much Pride is saying I GO TO JSU !!!
Wow !!! This reminds me of my performing years (73-77) when we weren't just a band. We were family. Looking out for each other. Making sure the show was perfect in every way. I miss those days ,all my band mates, and my KKPsi,TAU brothers and sisters. BOOM!!!
Hey I am a junoir in high school. I am undecided which college I want to go to. I'm in band, and I have intentions to be a band director/English teacher. I can't make my mind up between Howard, Southern univ, or JSU.
If you are looking for a diverse musical education where you can also explore your background in English,or just in music ,Jackson State is the place for you.
I know right! They new how to ease and sneak without being seen until it was time to perform...Todays J-Settes are too imature and they want to be recognized and seen at all times...Not realizing the art of illusion by hiding and keeping and giving that element of surprise!
Reminds me of 1984 when the Boom went to Grambling and the field was soaking wet.The Boom showed out!The J-settes danced in the pouring rain to Rick James "Seventeen." Before hair weaves, the J-settes even back then got on the ground with their hair flying and sticking to their backs; talkn'bout SEXY!Constance Nichols,Michelle Spurlock,Shannon Johnson,Chelonde Hughes,Gerinda Lewis,Sharon Spann,Felicia & Delicia,Sonja Ellis, and Sophia Washington. Where is that footage?
Dayum! Check out the tempo to "Knights by Knights!" That's what I'm talking about and the percision and cleaness of the Boom's playing. Mind you, the J-Settes are seriously dancing to that tempo and the field is soaking wet! Sheiiiiiidt!
Yeah this was the real SONIC BOOM of the SOUTH. I'm a Crab of 85. The 80's were the best yrs. Someone please put up a clip when they were playing THE SHOW by Dougie Fresh.
by the way keep posting those ole school clips from 1980s back. I understand that it is somewhat difficult to take some of the film from analog to digital. But please someone do that...I would like to see some from the 70s.
That river of water is the track its not dirt. Well this was my era folks. Back them the ballgames was full of talent ball players and the bands were outstanding. The J-settes where in a class all their own because they combined Afrocentric dancing (hip and torso movement) while the others where trying to be ballerinas. You just don't find that pep and precision anymore.
Freaky Dancin by Cameo was the Hundred's Dance Routine Song along with Super Freak!!! This was one of the most memorable showdowns at Bragg also because Dr. White went home and was soaking in the tub because he thought that The Bands were not going to perform.
Hey, I've been waiting on this video forever and a day. This was at FAMU in 1981. It rained like a monsoon, and the BOOM and the 100 went under the stands. The rain slowed down a little, but the BOOM said they did not come all of the way from Mississippi not to perform. They put on a great show but believe me when I say THE HUNDRED showed out completely!!!
Man it's old skool fo' sho'. I'm a crab of 93 of the Boom. That was fresh when all the squads did a backwards slant, I've never seen that b4. This is a classic clip. The mellophone part is so clear like I've never heard b4. The Drum Majors are directing instead of twirling the Mace. Man that old BOOM!
ok i got another question what the song the band dances to

We left Tallahassee after the game and went to New orleans and performed halftime on Sunday for the Saints in the Superdome.

This was my freshman year (1981).
I remember every single note and move.
The J-settes slowly moved in place between us on the sides during the playing of sweet baby.
This was by far one of the BEST bands. We played and danced....at the same time. How often do you see that these days??
huggybear603 3 years ago
I would like to know how in da hell did the J-settes make it to the field????????

Yea and it reminds me of this same year yall came to Gram for homecoming in the old stadium and got dogged.

Wow! Very good. Nowadays JSU has sex with their instruments and play as loud as possible.
CaptDouchebag 4 years ago
jsu has switched to more of a drum corps style, which in my opinion is much more demanding and much more interesting to watch and listen to.
