  • @xrayracer1 Man. I am amazed.

  • The best part by far is when you realise the drummer is sporting not only a moustache but a mullet as well!

    best day of my life.....

  • wow i want this on guitar hero

  • Brendan - can you pelase add the name Shane Reed Drums on the tags please. Thank you for this - thats my best mate on drums.

  • Tommy and Phil are amazing ...also check out Kolbe & Illenberger on youtube ... keep on

  • awesome.....

  • I have been looking for this guy for years. I believe he's the guitarist that performs it on Chris Bystrom's "The Last Surf Movie" which is no longer available. Drats!!

Thanks so much for posting this video.

  • 80's look funny

  • Holy Crap!!!!!!!!!!

    I'm speechless...

  • always briliant still brilliant

  • DAMN!!!!

  • hes a fucking legend!

  • Phil and his brother Tommy are flat out two of the best guitarist I know of . Lot of good players out there, but they occupy that small space at the top!

  • I like the decorations. And Phil whups. Oh and obviously his brother does as well. Makes me jealous watching them play.

  • There is also footage of the same band on Clive Robertsons Newsworld. If someone has it can they please post it up.

  • It was late 80's. I'm playing harmony guitar in the background. On a good day Phil is in a league of his own.

  • he is not a shredder man hes a proper guitar player he dont do fiddley diddley malsteen bollacks even tho i do like malmsteen lol

  • he was always the shredder out of him and tommy but they are both awesome and can both shred

  • hey... everyone thought that ywingie malmsteen was great.. I remeber the best quote in my life...It was Phil at at a little known niteclub in my hometown Campbelltown, NSW Australia. "This is how SLASH wishes he could play" then he procceded to prove it many time over..

Same city.. the best blues guitarist in Australia is i think.. Mal Eastick

  • doing a tafe course with him! can't wait, performing with him and everything!

  • yay i am getting lessons from phil emmanuel at the local tafe, can't wait

  • Aussie rock style, fast loud and simple. Ha. A bit like Aussie sex.

  • i saw him live it was awesome, but he had a mirror pickguard on his guitar so i went him blind and deaf, gotta love the aussie rock style, fast loud and simple

  • Stop bashing the shred, you jealous soul! So, is this Tommys brother, or son?

  • brother

  • Tommy hasn´t son...he has only two doughters...Amanda ans Angelina...Phil is his older brother

  • you are a good player, but why ruin good songs by playing them too fast ? Anybody can show-off playing songs fast, but the real talent is playing them properly and at the right tempo

  • Anyone can play that fast? Really? Can they? why don't you post your name so I can youtube you, or maybe look up your tour dates, or maybe I could find you on tv, or playing for the world at the Olympic ceremonies? Considering it's that easy=P Real talent aint playing songs exactly as written, anyone can do THAT-real talent is playing a song everyone previously proclaimed 'boring', and making them listen and love it! Are you really trying to say this guy has no talent? This is his style silly!

  • I prefer them together... although then I say they are not human :-)

Tommy is happy to let Phil go,, together??? are well, not normal,,,, is no one else plays like them :-)

  • True Story: I was in a guitar shop 20+ years ago. Phil was there. Someone encouraged him to try the latest digital delay (play a note and it echoes). Within 15secs, he's playing as fast as this piece, and the echo from the delay was perfectly timed to fall between each original note, so it sounded like it was twice as fast! There were a number of excellent guitarist there, & their jaws were on the floor! He's a freak. He's not better - Tommy's not better. They're different & they're both freaks!

  • i used to get guitar lessons off him!!! lol

  • sussycoco: shit...that'd be awesome. What specifically did he teach you?

Players at that level are very knowledgeable...

  • I've just seen Tommy at The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester recently. He was superb. You're bound to bump into Phil before I do, so can you ask him when he's coming to England, 'cos I can't see his name in any upcoming gigs...

  • timananda: wicked story dude!

  • Do tell

  • Woodridge high, Brisbane: Local talent music showcase. He'll be performing with my band a few covers.

  • Im playing with him OCT 25th. Cool hey?

  • Going to see him at the Wellington RSL on fri 19th Sept ! Can't wait !

  • man this song is awesome! anyone have a tab of it?

  • you can´t say he is bad :O

  • lmao at the set the 80s were a crazy time lol. awesome player

  • I'll bet Old Johann never dreamed that his music would ever sound this amazing. Way to Phil. Love your stuf

  • i saw Phil Live in Tassie Casino yrs ago HES GREAT ..SO LOUD tooo

  • Absolutley Amazing.

  • I agree. Shame that the both of them are relatively unknown, allthough both geniuses.

  • After watching this i went out and bought 14 step ladders for some reason.

  • I don't trust the big one behind Phil

  • i bought 20 and i only need 1 !! What the hell is going on !?

  • Now, I may be mistaken but I think I see another great Aussie on drums, Chad Wackerman and great Aussie bass player Harry Brus. Can anyone else help me out here and with the other musicians?

  • Shane Bedford on drums, and Peter Bolton on the keys. thats my old man! bloody good keyboard player too, if i dont say so myself.

  • my bad, shane reid on the drums- not shane bedford.

  • and john mckinnen on the bass. The band was called kakadu.

  • phil played black dog and hells bells at the pub last wk bastard why dosn't he do this stuff i love shredding cause i can't but he is still amazing to watch live so much style

  • love the mullets

  • ive totally got that guys mobile number haha

  • Phil's a great guitarist, as said earlier, it's a pity he isn't as widely recognised as his brother Tommy. By the way, I own the very first commercial recording the Emmanuel brothers made, way back in about 1970, Phil was 15, Tommy 13, they recorded "Whiplash".

  • his bro is the great tommy emmanuel!

  • Please post more Phil.

  • Phil is kind of like the Australian Danny Gatton. So much talen & ability yet unknown to the average person on the street.

  • my favorite Phil Emmanuel tune, thanks Phil.

  • Ahhh classic(al) stuff from the whiz ! Good to see more videos popping up on here.

I have some videos of Phil and Tommy playing together on the Clive Robertson show. Remember him, the cynical sarcastic fat guy glasses and a balding head ? Anyway must dig them up. And also the video of Phil playing on the (sydney) Footy Show from about ten years ago.

  • thankyou.Another of the performances on my lost "best of the emmanuels" VHS tape turns up.Still looking for anyone who has P and T on Mike Walsh show, playing Sugarfoot Rag , T on Takamine,P on Ibanez AE, from about 1983. Any helpers??
