  • Great version SD rocks,

  • Thank you for this post. My favorite Steely Dan tune. This was a bit of "workmans" version. I've heard them rock this out far more aggressively but, as usual the arrangement, the musicianship and the vocal harmonies were perfect.

  • Btw, has anyone noticed that Steely Dan's videos have the least dislikes?

  • It's not about high school but very specifically about college - Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson NY. And unfortunately for people like myself who live nearby, Becker & Fagen have been true to their word, at least as performers.

  • @jeremiah123z Does anybody knows Why do they talk about Mexico and Guadalajara, did they went to Med School down there?

  • Fagens singing not at it's best here surely. Maybe he should had left it to mr Mc Donald in this concert?

  • Kenny Rogers on back-up keyboard everyone.

  • @ChaoticaMortis ...or, perhaps, Michael McDonald.

  • anyone know the guitarist's name?

  • @lonestar7703

    I think you'll find it's Jon Herrington.

  • Killer music from a killer era...never again will you find songwriters like these.

  • I love how Donald still uses his Rhodes and not some emulation keyboard. He's the coolest.

  • That is how Michael Mc Donald got his start doing back-ups for Steely Dan and others. He is a great musical icon!

  • ...Hey, thanks again!

  • Fagen is one of the coolest guys in the world.

  • holy toledo is that mcdonald? not the hamburger people. the doobies.

  • This is the complete package, gifted musicians, awesome back up singers. Just a joy to listen to. Thanks for sharing

  • Back in 1970 I was on the prom circuit opening for Jay and the Americans . Jays group was great and well dressed. One gig two guys are in the band wearing cave man rags. It was hysterical. Everyone else in tuxedos. It was Fagan and Becker. Ended up doing a bit better than my band.

  • I believe outro is Last Tango in Paris.

  • Does anybody know the name of the song that they played here on the outro of the concert? It was the closer of many of their concerts several years ago...the band would play while Donald and Walter would exit the stage....

  • EPIC

  • Wow, Michael McDonald !!!

  • Had the pleasure of meeting Donald Fagen at Levon Helm's Midnight ramble in Woodstock over the summer. What a cool dude! He did a version of Shakedown Street that blew me away!

  • Michael McDonald has sure gained weight.

  • Ya, It's Jon Herington by the way, and he does an awesome job of the solos, once again. With a couple of broken fingers, he could still play circles around the anonymous tools who are still trying to form a clean sounding F Maj chord. Just sayin'

  • Is there gas in the car???

  • @jazzman9 Yes there's gas in the car....

  • Always ready to put tongue firmly in one’s cheek where Steely Dan is concerned, but isn’t that the theme from "Charlie's Angels” (Henry Mancini) as the outro music?

  • Hey Carlospc... thanks for the great posting!

  • Thank you for all the videos of the Steely Dan Show, wonderful.

    JR from France

  • I would not want to be in Harrington's shoes trying to follow the incredible guitar playing of Jeff Baxter and Denny Diaz. Not bad though.

  • christ, fagen's really lost his voice in his old age.....

  • lo de cloews es con kien?

  • i Think you guys are losing the plot!

I'm English & back in the bad old days

The only music on the airways was....Steely Dan

    GOD BLESS AMERICA!

    STOP THE WAR

    LOVE PEACE & PROPHETS

  • I'm just pissed that Mike McDonald is over ten years older than I am and has more hair than I do.

  • Macdonald, Bolton, Keeny G, and Celine Dion need to get a band together.

  • @randallcaster I imagine you were drinking heavily the night of that post. :)

  • This is hot! Mike and Carolyn and great sound. Shit!!

  • jay leno on keyboards is kikin

  • exelente rrola saludos desde mex tuesti1765

  • i wish u cud hear the horns better at 3:12

  • Sorry Skipper8257...Denny Diaz played the solos on the original recording.

  • @moriva5 nope. according to Fagen and Becker's notes, it was Jeff Baxter.

  • Great rendition..one of my favorites...good musicianship..awesome background singers..one of my favorite songs...

  • Dont compare the guitarist to the originals ,he would also be thought of as no good if he merely copied note for note .He has played on several more recent SD albums and is there Musical Director on tour so they trust him.Have said that i do prefer melodic (even simple) playing compared to jazzy flourishes ,any how Love the girls,mr mcdonald, love to Walter love to keith and as always Donald.you my hero.

  • You're right,markgr122.You must still have the record sleeve, lost mine. How could 2 such amazing players as Randall and Diaz simply drop off the radar for so long?

  • Skunk Baxter played the solos of Midnight Cruiser,Only a Fool Would Say That,,Change of the Guard and played pedal steel solos on Brooklyn( Owes the Charmer..), and Fire in the Hole.Ellio Randall,a fine fine player played the solos on Reelin and Kings on Steely Dans first record Cant buy a Thrill

  • elliot randall was the guitar player on that 1st record.played solos on Reeling in the Years,Do It Again, and later,on Allendale.Only solo Skunk Baxter played on early was on Changing of the Guard, very tasty.Jimmy page said that Randall's solo on Reeling was his all time favorite.

  • On Do it Again it was Denny Dias playing a electric sitar for that solo.First time he had played one,he stated.

  • Michael McDonald. How about that? I believe he did background vocals on some of Steely Dan's early albums. Pretty cool.

  • Herrington is ok but can not duplicate the guitar work by Baxter on this song. He doesn't even try. Jeff and Denny were the best. My favorite SD song also.

  • What's with the online bickering?

With all that aside, I'd like to say that this is my Favorite Steely Dan song.

I've been in love with Fagen and Becker ever since I was 7. I'm almost 20 now and they will never cease being my most favorite band, ever.

Oh, and I saw them in Atl, GA in August and I'm not sure if I've recovered yet.

  • Sure the Herrington dude can play. But he is not Steely Dan Studio good

  • You clowns are real brave talking trash anonymously... Typical internet TOOLS who hide behind a computer and act tough.

  • If anyone out there knows what Herrington is playing let me know please. I don't think it's a 335 and I'm sure it's not a 330. So what is it?

  • I love that jazz riff the band does at the end, VERY tasty

    Where's the rest though???!!!

  • "this next song is about high school......'55 chevy's and push up bras." Im 20 years old, and in love with steely dan.

  • @missionmanon...this actually isn't about high school...it's about donald fagen getting busted for pot in the 60's after his g/f, dorothy white, turned state's witness against him while he was attending bard college in annandale-on-hudson, ny, known as "the william and mary of the north"...fagen was so upset with the school's cooperation in the arrests that he didn't return to attend graduation...fagen did return 16 years later to accept an honorary doctorate and apology from the college...

  • @missionmanon so glad to hear it my friend !!!

  • @missionmanon no, it's not.

  • @missionmanon You have great taste!

  • Are you kidding?....I'll be the gypsy queen anyday...Smiles;;;:):):) This is a wonderful video....Sexy shmexy! :-)

  • Thank you, thank you , thank you. I love these guys and own every album they've ever made.

  • What a stupendously memorable and awesome concert this was.

  • Michael McDonald is an asset, a great positive force for musical thought, wherever he performs and with whomever he performs. Thank you, my friend.

  • FUCK MICHAEL MCDONALD.

  • Wow what an awesome and enlightened statement. You must be from some nether world to have such insight. Hey, keep it coming dude. Everyone needs this kind of critical insight. Thank you so very much.

  • don't get mad because michael mcdonald fucking blows. i love the dan and wish he was nowhere near this jam.

  • Steely Dan songs have serious mileage - they never age! Been listening to these same tunes since 1978 and they still have vitality.

  • FIVE FUCKING STARS!!!!!

  • i feel you brother

  • I love it when people say, Why is music so lousy these days, they just don't make good music anymore, and then I say oh yes they do! And I play them some STEELY DAN!

I appreciate your enthusiasm for good music.

  • WOW! The old SD is still kicking and alive,

with bonus song; LAST TANGO IN PARIS!

  • Skunk played Congas...when they toured as well as guitar.

Check out the vid from The Midnight Special that is floating 'round here...

  • I want me some backing babes! mmmmmmmm

  • I'm seeing them in July and i am SO EXCITED!!!

  • Whoever critizes this video is a no nothing piece of crap. Get a life and try to appreciate real talent. I realize this is no rapper or hip hopper: Expand your horizons.

  • know not no ... as in know nothing...not no nothing

  • Takes one to NO one. Get a life, you douche. You must have taken an English class once upon a time.

  • Coming from ewe I'd consider that a compliment.

  • I knew you liked farm animals.

  • And I knew if you really tried you could spell an entire sentence correctly. Well done.

  • Do not forget the comma between tried and you, madam. It is very important to the structure of the sentence.

  • Who ever is playing the drums is playing the song too slow and pretty its sloppy drumming. The guitar solo was very uninspiring. Skunk Baxter is better.

  • Are you a drummer? The drummer on stage is Keith Carlock, one of the best drummer's around today and has played with a whole host of amazing musicians. Just the fact that he's playing with dan for so long is quite an achievement. I think you should review your comment

  • Yes I am a drummer, it seemas to me that at some parts of the song he was just a little behind the beat.

  • Yeah maybe, but I'd have to argue that was intentional more than anything. However, I'm not discounting that he was having an off day either! Personally, I love Carlock's work with Steely Dan, in studio and all the live shows I've seen, but that's one drummer's opinion against another's and there is no point disputing tastes!

  • By the way, Skunk Baxter played guitar, not drums.

  • I never said Skunk Baxter played drums, read my comment again.

  • @sevadaj Not trying to be a jerk or anything, but you do know Steve Gadd made a career out of playing "a little behind the beat", and it seems like he has done OK... wouldnt you say so? I think Keith is gonna be just fine haha.

  • amazing!! I have always loved this song.. but like every other Steely Dan song, I don't have any idea what they are talking about.... It is all one private joke!

  • Donald Fagen/Ray Charles.............wow.

  • Man, his voice has a lot of mileage on it.

  • What is that outro? Sure I remember it from somewhere...amazing show! :)

  • Theme from Last Tango in Paris.

  • My chin has just hit the floor..

What a version ...the boys are so cool and made the best music ever,,

    my word again,,

  • Fagin had the Girls sing it when he was in concert in Auburn, Washington at the White River Amphitheatre in July of '06.

  • Is that Michael Mcdonald ot Phil Donahue?

    lol

  • Michael Doonesbury . . ..

  • voice at end had 2 B DF...gravel

  • The walk at the end? The master of the planet. He knows what's what. Long Live The King Don.

  • Thanks, Carlos for all the Steely Dan videos--you are definitely the man.

  • Who's voice is that at the end? "Thanks for coming, hope you had a nice time... Was that DF?

  • and look at Michael McDonald's fatass. I love how he always tries to upstage Fagen's vocals. Especially in Hey Nineteen, he comes out of nowhere on the album version. Listen super close next time. LMAO.

  • you...do...realise the producer and/or mixing engineer decides the volume levels of the final mix...so if his vocals are 'louder' blame the mixer. Also, if Fagen thought he was being upstaged, don't you think he would make changes (that is, if he had a big ego at the time)?

This is of course irrelevant to the fact that Michael is not even singing on hey nineteen! Frank Floyd and Zack Sanders did.

  • Well I guess I just got educated. Sorry...

  • This song is ssoooooooo insane live. Like singing gospel in church. LOL. A truly religious experience.....

  • Does it get any better than this? Donald Fagen, Michael McDonald, Carolyn Leonhart and Walter Becker doing "My Old School"....love it!
